Summary: Diana Palmer at her best...
Review: As always Diana Palmer has paired two vulnerable people, who desperately need the other person's strengths. Pierce Hutton, tall, dark, handsome, rich and emotionally devastated and Brianne Miller, young, innocent, emotionally nurturing and in peril from her stepfather... both loners who need each other. The erotic and emotional story is Diana Palmer at her very best. I always buy her books but some, like this one, are the BEST.

Summary: Is this really Palmer ?
Review: As Diana Palmer's #1 fan I was disapointed in this book. Pierce was not the normal sexy, masculine hero that's usually in Palmer books, instead he came across as kind of weak and whinny. There was also too much talk of war, and the chemistry between Pierce and Brianne just wasn't up to Diana's usual standards.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Intelligent, witty and fun!!!
Review: Beyond it's entertainment value, I found the book intelligent and witty. I liked the way Diana portrayed Brianne Martin, although, young in years possessed maturity and intelligence. Unlike some of her characters in the past who were depicted as clingy and spoiled, Brianne is different. The way the story concluded, however, was a little bit lacking in impact. I would have wanted L. Pierce Hutton to be a little bit more remorseful for his shabby treatment on Brianne. Although, the grief experienced by him was understandable in the circumstances, I would still have wanted him to get his 'just desserts'. Overall, I recommend this book, the underlying material for which the story evolves is an 'eye-opener' for what is happening in some parts of the world today.***Great material Diana, more power.

Summary: Surprisingly disappointing
Review: First, I just want to say that I love Diana Palmer. She is fabulous and fun, one of my favorites. This book was NOT Diana Palmer material. It is about a young girl who falls in love with an older man and waits a year for him until he over comes his wife's death. In the meantime, Brianne's horrible step father promises her hand in marriage to someone else and Brianne will do everything she can to keep from marrying this evil man, with the help of Peirce if he gets over his wife's death. I could hardly stand Pierce for he was boring, self centered and childish. And though Brianne was not as naive as one would think, she was still not a very bright young woman. I found the plot somewhat weak, even though Ms. Palmer snuck in a few surprises with the oil companies and wars and etc. I found Tate Winthrop more exciting than anyone in this book and he was hardly in it!! I know the next book I read by her will be much better. I am not giving up on her! :)

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not her best, but a pretty decent read.
Review: I am tried of reading how helpless Palmer's females are. And I am tried of how chauvinistic and narrow-minded her male characters are...it's all pathetic. It's the 90s, and if Brianne hadn't said so, I still would have thought that the time period for this book was late 70s/early 80s.

Summary: Couldnt put it down!!!!
Review: I decide to read the first chapter just to find out how it started and if i wanedt to read it...lets just say I read into the second....i couldn't put it down...so I had to buy it. The characters are so well written....especially Pierce...and Brianne. I greatly recommend this book

Summary: Something just was'nt right
Review: I don't recall ever reading a Diana Palmer story before (I know she has a bunch of them) and I'm not sure I would read another. There was not much wrong with this book per se, but there was not much right with it either. The dialogue was very simple as was the plot. Don't scratch too hard at the surface of this story or you won't hit anything. We have a tortured hero, who truly loved his first wife, and it was refeshing to see that he was faithful in his love. He also had a guilty conscience about a woman who could have been his daughter (though that seemed to just be a front to keep our heroine at arm's length while he mourned his wife). Our heorine was young and impressionable (though at 19 I don't know anyone who is still that naive...today maybe 16) but she was just...well ...there. Everyone loved her and thought she was special, but besides being compassionate, I'm not sure I see all the allure.

Instead of using big print and huge margins, the editor or publisher should have just used normal typeset and published this as a 'series'. This 377 page book shouldn't have been longer that 250 pages.

Summary: Where is the continuity editor????
Review: I hadn't read a recent Diana Palmer book - she used to be one of my favorite series romance authors - but bought, read and really liked Lord of the Desert. Felt I was missing someting about "what happened before" so made a point of buying Once in Paris to find out Philippe and Brianne's previous history.
I liked the two main characters and their interactions; I especially liked the fact that there was a very believable reason to keep the hero and heroine apart - Pierce's love for his first wife.

That said, I'm a bit tired of the much older man/much younger woman theme. I also found Kurt Brauer a bit inadequate as a villian.
What REALLY annoyed me was the breaks in continuity - how can Brianne be told Pierce's age early in the book and later say she doesn't have any idea how old he is? Also going from Savannah to Virginia by private jet on page 298 and then to Charleston SC on page 302-303 when driving by limo to Washington DC was so incredible that I almost tossed the book out - except I wanted to know how it ended.

In summary, a good romance between likable characters made less enjoyable by annoying errors.
