Rating: Summary: Could have been better Review: I don't think it was a total waste but I do believe its definitely not her best work.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: The book starts off with a bang and slowly peters out. I was disappointed because I have enjoyed most of Jude Deveraux's books. I got the impression that she rushed to tie up lots of loose ends in a ridiculous plot. At this point, my attitude was, "Who Cares!" If you see it in a garage sale for a quarter, it might be worth reading.
Rating: Summary: What a Let Down Review: I love The Summerhouse. This book's ending is such a disappointment. There were no explanations of how the farmhouse got into Jimmie's hands. A lot of things don't tie in and it's plain confusing. Why does he need to ask Lilian to find out the truth when his grandmother was still alive!
Rating: Summary: Boring, Disappointing Read Review: What a disappointment...I've read all of Jude Deveraux's previous books and loved them. This book just seemed pointless, after the first couple of chapters your just trying to get through it. I'm assuming that J. D. is attempting to do what it seems a lot of romance writers are now doing and that is, write outside of the genre. Well this was a lackluster effort. Not worth your beach reading time.
Rating: Summary: Where did she go wrong? Review: After reading and recommending "Summerhouse" as one of the best and most interesting books I had read in a long time, I could not wait for Jude's next book to come out. Are you sure that she wrote this? There were enough people in this book for 4 books and I constantly was trying to figure out who they were and what they were doing instead of reading the story. Then I figured it out- there is no story! I think that Jude also figured that out and decided just to fill in the blanks with a wired woman who cannot stop making food (which she never eats) rips up houses, takes in strangers, lets that stranger make love to her so roughly that she almost falls off the bed! etc, etc, etc. I don't know if she had to quickly fullfill a deal with her publisher or if she had 6 or 7 friends write stories and she just put them all together. I also am very angry at her constant use of "Brand Names" in her book , when they do not add anything and in fact take away from using your imagination which is what reading is all about. I can only hope that she just had a brief moment of time pressure or could not write enough stories to use all these people and will get back to her excellant writing of the past. I am willing to give her a chance, but I am not recommending this book to anyone! In fact I would like my money back! Jude take a rest, get a new editor and come back to us, we will forgive.
Rating: Summary: hated it !! Review: I have read all of Jude Deveraux's books and thought that I would always love her books, but I hated this one. She made it sound like staying at home to take care of your husband and your children is a bad thing while going out to run for president while someone else takes care of your kids is a good thing. At the End of the book, the supposed heroine only wants her privat life undisturbed. My goodness what a choice....to be a billionare or not hmmmmmmmmm....to be able to rebuild a town and help people out or to turn down all that money. Lets get real here.... in the future I think I will think hard about getting another Jude Deveraux book if it turns out to be like this one and the last few...
Rating: Summary: Confusing/Lifeless Review: This story had so many minor characters you needed a directory to keep track of them. The main character Baily was such a spineless, pathetic person she fit in perfectly with the emotionally sick husband - Jimmy. The love interest with Matt was boring and lifeless. This book seemed to be about a constant search for a plot! But unfortunately it was never really found.
Rating: Summary: Not typical Jude Devereux but good. Review: I'm sorry that other readers have not enjoyed this book as much as I have. Even though it took me some time to get into it, it was a very good book. It is nothing like Jude Devereux's other books, so it took me some time to understand that. But, it's something that is enjoyable and interesting to read. I hope readers will give it a chance, even if it isn't historical romance. It's not a bad book. It just isn't what I was expecting.
Rating: Summary: Shifting Genres? Review: Jude's new book is not the standard contemporary or historical that has made her so successful in the past. Instead, she's written something of a mystery and something of a coming into one's own kind of book with a dash of small town eccentricity thrown in. Instead of a romance novelist, the writer is maturing into a good novelist. The result, while not her best book, is nonetheless readable and interesting. However, her romance fans may not get the "fix" they're looking for here. In this book, the "hero" Matt Longacre is almost an afterthought - and as a result, we don't care for him the way we have her other heroes. All that said, I really enjoyed "The Mulberry Tree" although it's tone was rather sad. I loved Lillian/Bailey and just wish that her fictional life had been less harsh.
Rating: Summary: The Return Of Jude The Great Review: I have read the reviews posted to this page. And I couldn't disagree with them more. I really liked this book!!! I too am a Jude Deveraux fan. I read Velvet Angel when I was fourteen yrs.old. I am now a wife and mother of three who still loves Jude's books. Having said that I have read a few books that I didn't like such as The Raider, The Maiden, High Tide, and Eternity. There have been a few books that retread over the same territory. But all and all I am still a fan. This book was interesting from beginning to end. The main character Lillian/Bailey is a believeable one. It's interesting to see her become her own person after Jimmie's death. I can see how she seems to flutter between solving Jimmie's mystery, starting her own business, fighting her feelings for Matt, and all while she's trying to discover what its like to be on her own. Someone mentioned the constant deaths of characters--for the record there are only three--the main one being Jimmie. I won't give away the others for those of whom have yet to read this book. This is better turn than High Tide, a book that's mystery was completely dull and stupid. And yes, this is somewhat like Sweet Liar. By the time the book wrapped up, I was totally enthralled and still trying to figure out a few things about the Golden Six. My only disappointment with Jude is that she hasn't written a good book about the Montgomery men lately. But that aside I would recommend this book.
