Rating: Summary: I do not approve of this abridged version. Review: Hello my readers,I am writing to express my disappointment with the abridged audiocassette version of my book, "ONe Day My Soul Just Opened Up." Because I am the one who reads it, most readers might be inclined to think that it was I who sanctioned this expugated version of my work, but I assure you it was not. I can understand the publisher's desire to truncate many books for conversion to audiocassette, as many books would simply make for very long audiocassettes if read in their entirety- "War and Peace" or the Bible, for example. However, some books simply DEMAND being presented in the form the author intends, and I feel my book is one of them. If any reader- or listener, as the case may be- wishes to get any sort of encouragement or use out of my book, she must hear it in its unabridged, unviolated manner. Every word is important. Some might wonder, then, why it is my voice that you hear reading this disemboweled version of my work in this edition of the audiocassette. Well, dear readers, it wasn't my decision. I was under the impression that I was recording for an unabridged audiocassette collection, and some unscrupulous person removed large portions of my work without my knowledge or permission. Worst of all, I was not consulted as to what portions would be omitted, and as a result, some of my favorite parts of "My Soul" have been discarded like so much spoiled meat. (While I have your attention, let me also state for the record that if I had my druthers, it would not have been my voice you heard on the audiocassette, but Maggie Wheeler of TV's "Friends," who I feel has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. The publisher insisted I read the audio version, however.) In conclusion, I heartily apologize to you for this inferoir edition. I understand there is an unabridged audiocassette edition available, and, though I haven't had a chance to hear it, I do endorse it. Keep the faith, Iyanla Vanzant.
Rating: Summary: A Vital Stopover on your journey to peace. Review: I did NOT hear the abridged version - I got the 3-CD set and play it in my car. Everytime I listen, I gain something new from it. Ms. Vanzant is soothing, spiritual, and streetwise earthy all at the same time. A woman I would be proud to call a friend...or in this case, a teacher. Thank you, Ms. Vanzant, for getting me through a painful, painful time and helping me be better on the other side. Thank you for sharing your gift and inspiring me to share mine.

Rating: Summary: This book is the forbidden fruit, ladies! Review: I know this author is commercially successful & I am politically incorrect but I don't care. Somethings must be said. This book is wonderfully written and sounds very, very good on the surface. All you have to do is be no more than moderately knowledge about the Holy Scriptures and, like me, you can see the real horror of this book. I know this author is very popular with Oprah Winfrey and women are are "searching" for meaning in their lives. But don't be fooled! This is just ancient new age philosophy re-marketing thru a contemporary African American female. Nothing more. If readers are so stuck on the publications of this author, then go to the true New Age sources like Rumi or Buddha. The writing is better and the books are less expensive than Ms. Vanzant's. Just see for yourself. Good day.
Rating: Summary: Lucky 36@ earthlink.ne A dedicated fan Review: I reviewed this book once before, but apparently didn't describe the book as much as how it affected my life. This book is a day and evening journal to help you honor you and life. It consists of 40 days and 40 night of spiritual stength and personal growth. Iyanla gives morning affirmations about the subject she chooses for that day, and a way to remember them throughout the day. She then gives an evening journel to help you jot down your reactions during the day to the information you received in the morning, did the message influence your day and did you act upon the affirmations. It helps to keep a person on track of the important aspects of their life and days. It's a wonderful book and recommended reading for everyone who wants peace in their life.

Rating: Summary: Spiritual Awakening! Review: Iyanly Vanzant's "One Day My Soul Just Opened Up" is a beautifully written testimony to spiritual strength and growth. The authors open heart shares that no matter what card you've been dealt, you don't have to play it. If you don't like where you are in your life you have to ask yourself why and be able to change it. We all have choices and must choose what makes us happy not what others think should. This is a true success, rags to riches story that is guaranteed to touch your heart and make you wake up and think "if she could make it, so can I."

Rating: Summary: Ms. Vanzant is amazing Review: Ms. Vanzant is not "gleaning ideas from many different religions which worship what the Bible refers to as "fasle gods" (this includes the worship of "self"), combining all the concepts she likes, and discarding the rest." When she says the worhship of self, she simply means to love yourself and view yourself as important. She is not meaning worship in the true literal sense of the word like worshipping God. This book is amazing like her others, and makes me feel better when I read it, like I am where I should be to learn and grow, even if I don't like the situation I am in.
