Summary: A Unique Outlook on Life
Review: This was the first book I have read by Philip Yancey and it won't be the last! If you are looking for a unique look on "Christianity", this is a great book for you to read! Very thought provoking and a great book to open up discussions about your life as a Christian. Many parts of the book really hit home and made me think about my perspective on life and how I live every day.

A wonderful and insightful book!

Summary: inspiring book
Review: I am not an avid reader, but I decided to give "Rumors of Another World" a try after a friend mentioned it. I enjoyed it -it is not the "average" religious book, as Phillip Yancey discusses things I wouldn't expect to be in a book in the "religious section" of a bookstore. It was an inspiring book. It made me think more about questions that I wonder and ask myself. He addresses topics that have confused me in the past, but he did a great job of making it understandable while not lecturing. It is hard to describe in just a few sentences, but I would recommend others to read it.

Summary: GETS TO THE HEART OF WORLD PROBLEMS
Review: As I read this book, I realized that I had found an ideal Christmas gift for a few friends -- friends who are continuously groaning, groping, griping, grabbing, grasping, grimacing, and grieving while being held in bondage by the jaws of materialism. Our culture is so engrossed in materialism that few people stop to think how negatively it has affected us and how it has drawn us further away from the real world, i.e., the spiritual world. Philip Yancey does an excellent job of putting things in perspective, showing how people have been led astray in their values, especially by the media. The only hope for the world, as Yancey points out, is to recognize that the world we live in is not the real world. Faith in a larger world is necessary. Yancey tells of his own tests of faith, the same tests that many of us go through and which so many fail. This book should cause some people to more closely examine their behavior and actions, perhaps allowing them to pass future tests of faith.

Summary: Rumors of Another World: What on Earth Are We Missing?
Review: I bought the book on Saturday morning and spent all day reading until finished. Philip Yancey put into words so much of what "modern" Christians feel we are missing. What are we doing in this place? Do we belong? Mr. Yancey answers "yes". "On Earth as it is in Heaven" is what Christ will soon fulfill, but in the meantime we can find glimpses of and promote this goal in our daily lives. Saturday evening, I really felt something different about my life. I though it might subside over the weekend, but I continue to reference concepts in "Rumors" again and again. Without question, the best and most purposeful book I have ever read.

Summary: Absolutely wonderful book
Review: This was one of my favorite books by this author. In it he was much more encouraging, and gentle, while still writing thoughts that pierced through the fog to the direct matter. He has a way of bringing clarity in his discussions that feel almost like a light bulb turning on. He is not a "feel good" writer, rather getting to the heart and soul and being very real. I admire his ability to admit his weaknesses, and how he found faith from questions and fears. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Get this book and question yourself
Review: The best part about this book is the non-religious viewpoint on things we all think about. We all question ourselves, our faith and every part of our existence here. Peter Yancey speaks to you in volumes because all the while you are reading this you are coming to many conclusions about your own questions. Great book, fantastic author and would be the perfect gift for anyone on your list.

Summary: Great find!
Review: I am not a religious person and do not normally read books that would fall under that catagory. This book, as it turns out, does not have a religious aspect. I have found the book to be quite amazing. It has helped me to understand the different views in life. Philip Yancey has created a wonderful work of art with this novel. I recommend this book to anyone!

Summary: A book that finally tackles the big questions
Review: I found this book to be truly willing to deal with the hard questions of life and give answers that make sense. The style is chatty and interesting and fun, you never knew where the book is going to go next, there were plenty of surprises in store for the reader. I am really enjoying it, it has a lot of beautiful images of the natural world in it, as well as human philosophy and belief. It covers a lot of things that no one has ever talked to me about, things that I have questions about. Really makes you think . . . and question if there is more to the world that we think there is . . . this is a great book for someone younger like me who had not seen much of the world, or really any age.

Summary: For the pragmatic spiritualist...
Review: A friend of mine shared this book with me, and frankly, I didn't think I'd be interested in it. I'm a Unitarian/Universalist, and I thought this book, written by a well-know Christian writer, wouldn't really be my "cup of tea".
However, I was pleasantly surprised. Whatever your religious persuasion, if you have wondered about your spiritual path, or are still trying to define what precisely you believe in, this book is an interesting and thought provoking read.

The website rumorsofanotherworld.com is also pretty cool. Check it out, and you'll likely conclude that you want the book as well.
