Rating: Summary: a great book Review: Bull Run by Paul Fleischman is a very good book. It takes place in Bull Run America in the early 1860's during the civil war. The characters are 12 everyday people durning the civil war that have different stories. I feel the important message in this book is that depending on your role in the war you were treated differently, and you hade a different perspective of the war. Some exeamples of this are:Gidion Adams was a negro trying to hide his race so he could pertisipate in the war.Toby Boice was a 12 year old boy wanting to join the war but was to young so he joined a band playing at the war. My personal opinion on this book is that it is a great book. It was a good book because of the way it was written and the characters. I liked the way it was written because of the way it left you hanging. I liked the characters because you can see how every day people get involved in a war. I recomend this book to anyone who likes the civil war.
Rating: Summary: Review of Bull Run by Paul Fleischman Review: Bull run is a book that offers the reader a chance to see the Battle of Bull Run from a variety of perspectives. Paul Fleischman uses journal entries to describe the thoughts of a mother, a soldier, a journalist, a general, a child and many other fictional characters that would have, very likely, been a part of the Battle of Bull Run. The description of the characters and settings paints a picture of what it was like in Virginia during the 1860's. Anyone reading this book may gain an understanding of how ordinary people can be placed in extraordinary circumstances and how these ordinary characters reacted to their circumstances. The short journal entries from the various characters make the book a pleasure to read. This book provides an insight to the Battle of Bull Run in a very interesting, personal and thoughtful manner.
Rating: Summary: Book Reveiw of Bull Run By:Corey Easterday Review: Bull Run is a very good book and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Civil War. This book is different from many other books in the sense that the characters are the chapters and each one tells a different story. My favorite character is Gideon Adams because he stands up for what he believes in. Paul Fleischman is a really great author in my opinion and Bull Run is a very strong example of this.
Rating: Summary: Bull Run a very facinating book. Review: Bull Run is a very good book. It takes place during the Civil War. At a battle at a river known as Bull Run. The book starts out in the South during a battle in South Carolina. Then the story goes into how the Confederacy (south) and the Union (north) got their troops for battle. Next it goes to the Confederacy and the Union marching to Bull Run. Then the book as the battle at Bull Run in which many men die and the river flows red with blood. Finally after the battle the Confederacy helps all those who are injured even the Union soldiers. Some of my favorite characters were Gideon Adams a black who sneaks into the army to fight in a battle. Second, is Nathaniel Epp a photographer who becomes famous when he takes a picture of a soul leaving a man's body. Finally, is Toby Boyce a fifer who joined the confederate army band just to get a chance to kill a Yankee. I like Bull Run because it well written. I like how the author Paul Fleischman put the story into the eyes of many different people. I also like war books. They interest me and I just can't put a book down that is a bout any type of war. I'd recommend this book to someone who is fascinated by war stories or likes the Civil War. I would recommend this to someone like that because thats what the book is mostly based on. That is my review of the book Bull Run.
Rating: Summary: Historical Fiction Book Bull Run Review: Bull Run, a book about the Civil War, was written by Paul Fleishman. Paul is skilled at putting many interesting characters into a book such as Toby Boyce, Shem Shuggs, and Lily Malloy and 13 others. The characters come from diferent places both physically and emotionally. Though fighting each other, they learn a lot. They are from the North and South are men and women and are white and black. You will like this book because if you read it you can feel their experience and it will change you. Everyone will enjoy this powerful story.
Rating: Summary: BULL RUN Review: Bull Run, by Paul Fleischman, is a fictional story about the Civil War told by sixteen different people. The book was written so that you could see the war from different perspectives. Some of these characters are from the South and some from the North. There are both men and women, as well as a few children. I thought that the book was an interesting way to read about the Civil War. I was able to easily read it and it held my interest. My favorite character was Toby Boyce. He is an eleven year old boy from the South. He joins the war by pretending he is a musician. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs some information about the Civil War. I think that teenager readers and up would get the most out of this book.
Rating: Summary: The Review for Bull Run Review: Have you ever read a book about people and their perspectives of war? You would think that reading about history is boring, but the way that Paul Fleischmann describes the characters and writes the story line is great. Bull Run takes place at the battle of Bull Run in Virginia in the 1860s. There are twelve main characters, all with different views on the war. For example, there is a boy, Toby Boyce, who just wants to kill a Yank. Others think that the war is crazy and does not want any part of it, like a young lady named Lily Malloy. Her brother is sent off to war, and all she does is sit in a spot on the grass and wait for him to return. She thinks that the whole idea of war is wrong. The book contains heartache, drama, and a lot of action. I recommend this book to readers 12 and older because it would probably make more sense to them since they already know something about the battle. The book only has a few weaknesses, which are that it jumps from character to character, making it hard to remember the last thing they say. Since Fleischmann made the book "short and sweet", it is an easy read, but it could use a little more information about the war and less about what the people think. Everything else about the book is great. The author writes the story line very well, making it more interesting to the reader. I like the way the he writes the book in vignette-like format. Overall, Bull Run is great and should be read by everyone who wants to be informed about the Battle of Bull Run. Reading this makes me feel more appreciative toward those who help us fight in times of trouble.
Rating: Summary: Read it for pleasure! Review: I read this book for school, and they made us read each chapter like three times. I'm sure it is a very good book, but I've grown to loathe it! Looking past my feelings for it, I love the author. I also learned some very interesting facts about the Civil War. Unfortunetly it is written from so many points of view that it gets a little confusing!
