Rating: Summary: Excellent for those that regret forgetting it Review: Excellent for those that took a couple of semesters in high school and have completely forgotten all of it over 15 years from disuse. In just a couple of weeks my Swiss-German coworkers are amazed! Thanks Pimsleur for such an easy, friendly and effective learning method.
Rating: Summary: Easy to learn Review: Great for use in your car. This is the first of several levels to learn from Pimsleur on German. Make sure you get the rest of them. This one took me about 10 days to get through.
Rating: Summary: Learning a language is easy! Review: The Pimsleur language tapes for German worked very well for me and helped to practice my conversational skills. Since I had a background of German already, I felt that I gained more from the process which is totally aural...in other words, there was no text involved. A text would have been nice, but it removes the "safety" net which a book provides since often one doesn't have a textbook available when going to a foreign country. Each successive tape builds on the lessons from previous so even though you are on the third or fourth lesson, you are still being made to recall phrases and worlds from the earlier lessons. I encourage anyone who wants to brush up on their language skills or even to learn a new language to try this out - it beats any other book or tape manual I've ever used!
Rating: Summary: Excellent for those that regret forgetting it Review: The tape series helps the learner with the subtle pronounciation aspects of the language that the books can't provide. While this tape series doesn't use any books, I recommend a companion book to help build vocabulary. It is amazing how a conversation at the beginning of unit 1 is not understandable, but 30 minutes later it is perfectly clear. If you are serious though, go for the whole set as the first four cassettes won't go too far.

Rating: Summary: Easy to learn Review: These tapes allow you to learn as quickly or slowly as you like. Also, the way the it is presented allowed me to retain the skills much longer than I was able to using book or book-and-tape methods. Perhaps most importantly, by learning aurally and practicing orally I developed very good pronunciation (I learned to spell later), such that when I told native German speakers I didn?t speak German, they couldn?t tell I spoke English! I am trying to find a more advanced Pimsleur set, the first was so effective.
Rating: Summary: Very Quick Start to German Review: These tapes allow you to learn as quickly or slowly as you like. Rating: Summary: Outstanding way to learn! Review: This is my first contact with the German language. I bought a book too, but found the Pimsleur tapes the preferred way to learn. I listen to the tapes in my car, and in less than 3 weeks, I am speaking basic German. The lessons build on each other to assure success and continuity. By actually hearing the words, you can easily learn to speak the language just like a native! Since I live in Oklahoma, you can bet I come in contact with very few who know German, but those who do understand me easily.
