Summary: ''The Girls''
Review: The Girls is a very realistic book about cliques and friend groups in junior high. I thought it was an O.K. book. I think the author should have made it longer and more interesting. I liked ho Maya realizes that Candace isn't her real friend. I also liked it the way that Darcy gets left out at the end. This book has the potential for a great sequel. Iwould recommend this book to someone who is looking for a short realistic book.

Could you put yourself in the position where all of a sudden, your closest friends begin teasing and taunting you? Well, that's the position that Maya is in when friends Renée, Brianna, and Darcy turn on her, and she can't figure out why. Then popular, intimidating Candace calls her and says some awful things, and suddenly it becomes crystal clear: the other girls don't like her because of Candace; if they did stay Maya's friend after Candace began to dislike her, they would be out of Candace's clique. The book The Girls shows how hard it is to be left out, mocked, and how to get back on your feet.

I really loved this book because I felt as though I could instantly connect with Maya. She has the same problems every middle school girl has, and Amy Goldman Koss describes her emotions very well. The writer's craft was unique; with each new chapter, a different girl would narrate the story and the "Maya problem" as she saw it through her own eyes.

The book The Girls was addictive. I enjoyed reading the different perspectives that each individual girl had on the problems going on within their clique. Once I picked it up, I just couldn't put it down!

Summary: The Best Book About Girls Ever
Review: The Girls Puffin Books, 2000, 121pp., $4.99

How would you like it if you had the nicest friends and then one day they ditched you? Maya lives through this awful experience. Candace, Darcy, Brianna, and Renée are the popular kids that almost everybody has at their school. Maya is thrilled to be accepted into their group since she has just moved into the area. Everything is going fine with Maya and the rest of the girls until Candace, the leader of the group, decides one day that she does not like Maya and excludes her from the group. Maya, having never had an experience like this, has nowhere to turn. Will she be okay? What will happen to the other girls? Will Candace kick them out?

This book is filled with many middle school problems that girls deal with everyday. Cliques are a big middle school issue and this book really shows how it can affect a 13-year-old girl. You are able to watch the girls grow up, face their fears and their friends, and learn to live life in this wonderful story.

Amy Goldman Koss does an amazing job bringing her characters to life. You learn to understand the way they think and you start to feel how they feel. This book is unique in the sense that every chapter is the point of view of one of the girls. As the chapters alternate, you read five different sides of the story as the book is told. I was sucked into this story chapter by chapter. I felt the girls' pain and happiness. Koss captures the truth of cliques and it shows in this story.

The Girls is a fast read that I was not able to put down until I was finished. Any middle school girl will enjoy Amy Goldman Koss's book The Girls.

Summary: A very good, interesting book.
Review: The Girls was a very good book. It kept me entertained, and wanting to know what's going to happen next. I read it in six days, and I don't normally read books that fast. This book was about seventh graders, but I found it good and easy to relate to as a ninth grader.

This book is about 5 girls. Candace, the leader of the group, Darcy, Candace's biggest follower (best friend?), Brianna, the actress in the group who hates her nose, Renee, the girl who's parents are going through a divorce and who talks slowly (a vegetarian?), and Maya, another girl in the group who moved from a tough neighborhood. Candace decides she doesn't like Maya anymore, and suddenly everyone doesn't like Maya anymore. This book is about these girls and what happens in their lives after Maya is dumped from their group.

This book was very good, and a page-turner. It has a very interesting story, and it is easy to read. The only thing in this book I didn't really like was that one of the characters was supposed to be a vegetarian, but she eats chicken in the book. But this didn't affect the story, so I still give this book 5 stars.

Read this book. It is really awesome! I highly reccomend it!

Summary: My opinion of The Girls
Review: The Girls was an inspiring story of how a group of girls figure out who their real friends are. I really enjoyed the book, because, it reminded me to be careful of who I chose as my friends. The leader of these girls group is Candace, Candace is one of those preppy type who like to gossip. So, she's the cause of the group's major problems. Mya is the newest memeber of the group. Darcy, Candace's so called "best friend" is having this party and Mya doesn't even know about the party, Darcy and Candace plan on not having her know. When the other girls find out that Mya wasn't invited, they become a little puzzled. When Candace becomes more bored with Mya, at the party her and Darcy prank Mya, Darcy's sister catches them and tells her mom. Darcy does not apoligize to Mya until the book is almost over. To find out more about this book, you should read it!

Summary: The Girls
Review: This book "The Girls," written by Amy Goldman Koss is surprisingly realistic. Maya had been recently asked by Candace if she would "Do lunch". Ever since then Maya, Candace, Darcy, Briana and Renee seemed like sisters. Until one weekend Candace found Maya not cool and decided to blow her off. With the rest of the gang following Candace, Maya could not figure out what she had done.
The following week Maya dreaded walking to school knowing she would be the outcast. She tried to make herself invisible to her peers, especially her used to be so called friends. She noticed their new friend Nicole wondering what they saw in her that she didn't have.
Can Maya find out who is really her true friend, someone who she can trust forever? Will other people realize how Candace just wants everyone to follow her?
This book was very realistic showing how everyday clicks can be so powerful and insensitive to other people's feelings. It showed how the rest of the girls followed Candace in order to be so called "Popular".
The only part in this story that was hard to understand was the book being written in all of the girls different points of views.
Probably a female teen would most likely read this book because it explains how clicks work. But, males might want to read this book to understand more about females.
I would definitely purchase this book if you were interested with clicks/ groups of early teens. Maybe you might find out you are a follower or a bully to someone for no reason.

Summary: Popularitical Politics
Review: This book was amazing. I thought it was really interesting and it reminds me girls I know throughout my school. Despite some views on this book, it truly is good.

It's all about five girls in the best clique: Candance, Darcy, Renee, Brianna and Maya. When Maya's dumped by Candance (Queen B.), she's stuck with sadness and despair. The others just go along with it but get dumped one by one by Candance anyway. Except the gullible and best friend, Darcy. She is scared of being left by Candance. By the end of the story, Candance has already thought about putting together another group of a popular fivesome of blondes including the new girl, with "cool hair", Nicole.

This book has major deals on popularity, gossip, dreams, friends and other good middle school subjects.

Summary: The Girls
Review: This is a really good book about a special club and leader, it's worth your money. My friend has it and she loves it too. Its very absorbing and interesting, and it's told by the points of view of Darcy, Candace, Brianna, Maya, And Renee and at the very end Nicole. The leader is always recruiting people from the club for no real reason, and they don't know why and they have no idea what they did wrong. For instance, at the beginning of the book Maya calls all her friends from their club and everyone says they are going to Darcy's for a club sleep-over and Maya doesn't know what she did wrong because she isn't invited.

Summary: The Girls
Review: This is an awesome book about relationships in Middle School. The entries are from each of the girls involved in the story and the reader can tell a lot about the personality of each. I felt for Maya who was excluded from the group and never really knew why. Renee and Brianna seem to be good friends, but are confused and don't want to be left out either. Darcy does not get the message and I am sure she will soon be added to Candace's list of used-to-be friends. I see a lot of people like Candace and hope that many others see her also. It is a strong message about acceptance and vulnerability. A must read for all 6-9th grade girls. Excellent book.

Summary: The Girls
Review: This is an excellent book about exclusion and cliques in Middle School. The book is told from five different views and leads to understanding of each of the characters. I felt Maya's pain as she was excluded from the group and never did find out why. Renee and Brianna were good friends who just didn't want to be excluded. I think these are the girls that are like most Middle School girls I have dealt with over the years. Darcy still doesn't understand how manipulating Candace is, and wants to believe she is still her friend. Candace is the type of person who is just plain mean. There is no reason except she seems to be very angry with her life, and she takes it out on everyone else. This is very fast paced and I read it in one sitting. I plan to read it aloud to my classes, as I believe there are many valuable lessons to be learned. Excellent book.
