Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: I love this book! It's about a group of girls: Candace (the leader), Darcy (Candace's best friend), Brianna (a follower), Renee (the quiet, shy one) and Maya (the recent reject). At the beginning of the book, Maya narrates a chapter. You may think the writing is nothing special. But anyway, the story is great. ~A Ten-Year-Old Reviewer
Rating: Summary: Funny, good and very realistic Review: I never write reviews even when I really like a book, but I can't help it this time. This book was great. REALLY funny and so realistic. I bet there's not one girl who hasn't had trouble with a clique they were in, and this book gets it exactly right.
Rating: Summary: True Review: I think Amy Goldman Koss kept true to what girls do today, but to make it even more interasting she added some of her own material in. It was neat to see how these five girls dealt with there own problems, but still keeping a cool front when with there friends. Maya was being a real nice person to take all the hits Candace and the other girls made her face. I hope with out giving anything away but Making you interasted in to reading "The Girls" By:Amy Goldman Koss
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I think it was a great book because it has problems that usually would really happen in your everyday life. I Think Maya had it really tough. She got new friends and now they wanna dump her. My friends and I dont dump anyone we just get mad at them. I think Brianna and Ren'ee and Maya will have more fun togther, then they did with Candace and Darcy. Mayb eDarcy will join Maya and everybody and dump Candace since she now has Nicole as her Best Friend. I think this book is very emotional and well-written.I loved it!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Differnt Character for Each Chapter Review: I think one of the main reasons I liked this book so much was because of how realistic it was. Even though I haven't been in middle school in a while I remember that was exactly the way other cliques were. Mine never was, I was lucky. At the beginning of the book, Maya was so excited to be going to an amusement park for the day and the best part was that she could take one friend with her! Of course she called Candace first, who else? It turns out Candace is busy and so is Brianna and so is everyone else. That's when the cold truth hit her, Candace was bored of her. What will she do without Candace? The other girls don't even know why Candace dumped Maya, but they played along. They didn't want to get dumped too, but as the weekend goes by they're filled with guilt and confusion. They were Maya's friends too, it wasn't right to dump her just because Candace had. But for some reason everyone in this book was obsessed with Candace. (I personally didn't see what was so great about her.) It seemed like to me, like she had some kind of spell over them. One that they couldn't escape from. You can see that all the girls struggle with their emotions throughout the book, just like in real life. One minute they want to be friends with Maya and the next minute they don't care. But they end up having to make an important decision. Should they dump Maya and stay friends with Candace or should they be loyal to Maya? This book is full of little twists and turns that will take you by surprise and the ending will keep you wanting more. Mostly because this book really doesn't have an end, it just stops. Usually I don't like that, but I think it just adds to the suspense of this book.
Rating: Summary: Pre-Teen Peer Pressure Review: I thought that this book was really good because it describes about how the life of being a teenager really is.Its not easy fitting in or choosing the right group of friends and just because you think you fit in doesnt necessarily mean it is the right group. Choosing your friends is hard and I think this book really describes that.
Rating: Summary: The Girls Review: I thought the book,"The Girls" was an ok book. The book didn't stick out that much to me. In some sections of the book it was very confusing. Over all it made you think about all the pressures teenagers have. I related to the book, that was what kept me reading it! The best part in the book was when all the girls were at a sleepover. They all talked about everything going on in their lives. They played around with some wigs as well, and laughed at eachother. They didn't have a care in the world, when they were having fun with their best friends. I thought that was the best part. The most vivid thing was how the author described the characters. The girls have all different kinds of personalitys, for example Nicole was said to have red hair that was always kept in a braid. Her hair was said to look like a wild lion's main when the sun would shine on it. The conflict was also a greatly done! The girls decided to kick Maya out of their group. Maya was thrown out like a rag doll. Everyone went along with it because they knew if they didn't they too would of been kicked out. Those elements seemed to stick out the most to me. They both had a certain sight. You could see the characters in your mind and you could feel the all the emotions that was in the novel. These settings were really great. If you read the book your sure to get a good picture of what's going on!
Rating: Summary: The Girls Review: I was highly dissapointed with this book Amy Goldman Koss wrote. It was a story of five girls who did nothing but stab each other in the back and keep scerets from each other. I will tell you now i will never buy another one of her books ever again.
Rating: Summary: What a real friend is. Review: I was stunned when I first read this book. It looked a lot less than it actually was. I really hated Candace, the one all the girls turned to as she was their leader. This is one book that all girls can relate to. There is a Candace in everyone's life. Read this book and trust me, it's a lot better than you think.
Rating: Summary: Short, but very true¿ Review: Maya's a member of a middle-school clique, until one day, when their "leader" decides to ditch her. Maya's confusion, along with three of the other girls in the clique's emotions are explored in short chapters that switch back and forth from one girl to another. What emerges is a sad, but very true picture of how cliques function and how girls treat their "friends." My main gripe with this book was that it was far too short and read more like a short story than a novel. I wish that the characters had been expanded a bit more, but maybe by keeping it short, the author was trying to prove a point.
