Summary: Surprise after surprise
Review: The synopsis sounded good so I picked it up. Boy was I surprised! This book is great!! It will shock you and surprise you to no end. It's amazing what greed will lead people to do. Read this book!!!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Exciting story, good development.
Review: I read this book in just a few hours. After the first chapter I realized there was no need to read everything, so I mainly focused on the dialogue. It is an exciting plot and I enjoyed the little twists of fate which the author thought out quite well. However, I found the main characters' methodical planning and violent actions very disturbing, if not a bit unbelievable.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Simply amazing
Review: I read through these reviews and the number of 1 star reviews almost made me vomit. Its a sad sad fact that most Americans now a days don't know a good book from a hole in the ground. This book is incredibily well written. I had a very hard time putting it down. There were many nights where i would stay up til 4 or 5 in the morning simply because i couldn't put it down. The characters are all well developed and real. And the suspense this book creates is amazing. the people who have said this book was predicible most have some type of physic power. Scott Smith has written a wonderful delight to read. The movie is also a 5-star affair.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A unique, disturbing book. I couldn't put it down!
Review: This was a wonderfully written book. Every plot twist was believable -- the author was able to convince me that the circumstances could happen. Just when I thought no one else could possibly get in his way -- I was wrong!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent character development, scary, disturbing plot.
Review: I read this book after seeing the movie, because the characters in the movie were so well developed, I had to find out what they were like in the book and if there were any plot changes. There was a few, which made it even more interesting. It's a fantastic suspense, book and it shows the evil that money can turn on in people.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A very well written story, with a fizzle at the end
Review: I read this book in 48 hours. It is well written, and a "simple" story that, like life, gets out of hand with one bad decision. Unlike many books in this genre where we all know the "Hollywood" ending, this one kept me guessing. I would have given it more stars, except that the ending fades quick and dull, like a July 4 sparkler.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: disturbing yet great and absorbing
Review: I loved this book. It was very violent disguisted and shocked me yet I was rivited and dazzled by its twists. What makes it scary is because these are nice real people doing horrendously evil things

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Simply mind-blowing
Review: I finished "A Simple Plan" in a day (granted, I was on school break, but still), and two days later, lying in bed, the whole book hit me. Hard. I don't want to give away any of the plot (don't know why I'm bothering, as other reviewers have told too much already), but this is one of the most frightening books I've ever read because I found it completely believable. Those who find Hank's actions "strain credibility" are leaning on cliched beliefs of human behaivor- the truth remains that we are possible of doing anything, should the situation arise. That is Scott Smith's genius: he creates moments where characters make choices that, in other lights, are indefensible, but he does in such a light that you can understand. You put yourself in Hank's shoes, and you think, "Yeah, I woulda done that." Read this book. I'll read it again soon.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: This book is preposterous and I hate it.
Review: The plot is ridiculous. The characters make absurd decisions that have me screaming at the book and teeming with anger. We are supposed to believe that Hank is a "normal, good" person who commits evil acts out of necessity, but really there are many other more logical, non-criminal steps that could be taken. He continually chooses the immoral path. I totally hate this book and the only reason I gave it two stars is because I am still reading it. Obviously if I hate it, but continue to read it, there is something in it that won't let me put it down. Maybe that was Smith's objective all along.
