Rating: Summary: fantastic! incredible! horrific! it could happen! Review: The earlier reviews has said it all. What I want to know is what is Scott Smith up to these days and when will his next book hit the streets. Also, I must comment about the the change in how Jacob died in the movie. 'Huge disapointment! In the movie he was killed out of pity (boring!) when in fact the book showed him to be brutally murdered due to an overwhelming case of greed. The book was far more compelling and offered a truer statement about man's compensity for evil (am I the first to say that? Not!).
Rating: Summary: Why so many people liked this book? Review: I was a bit disappointed that it was not as thrilling as it was publicised. Though it does depict the ugly side of the human nature, the plot could pretty well be predicted. What does their daughter have to do with any consequences of the crime anyway? I read this book hoping that something would happen at the end and things would be eventually turned around, but nothing happened. I felt that I have wasted whole time that I have spent on this book.
Rating: Summary: After you read you will realize the truth of human nature. Review: I read this book , A Simple Plan, because my teacher told me to read it as an external reading. At first , I thought it would be boring but after a few chapters end I thought that it was one of the exciting books. It is a kind of a must read. After you read you will question yourself that Have your ever men this kind of human/ the answer is yes , maybe , it's you. You don't know how much you can do when you face the conflicts as the main character here. Everything are sound simple ,but sometime when it getting out of control evrything could happen. The reason why I can't give 5 stars to this book , A Simple Plan, is because he's so descriptive. Sometime it's make the story boring but the plot is very good.I confirm again that it is one of the must reads.
Rating: Summary: Really good Review: Skip the book, rent the movie. Although the book is really well written, it's overly violent in entire chapters that really didn't need to be there. It's also a good idea to see the movie and read the book, to compare the different endings.
Rating: Summary: Gripping!! Review: A novel of suspense I enjoyed tremendously. Far superior to any novel by James Patterson, John Grisham or Tami Hoag. The tagline "Sometimes Good People Do Bad Things" sums up the essence of the story pretty well. The characters are thrown into situations where they are 'forced' to do awful things to save their hide. Things later got very much out of hand for the main character (Hank Mitchell) to handle when he has to commit one crime after another in order to cover up his previous crime. But at the end of it all, he still believes he's a good man at heart. That he's still very much humane. He's like the average working man you see on the streets, with a wife and child, capable of feeling love, sadness, fear.. but also of greed which drive him to commit those crimes. What a well written book! When is Scott Smith going to publish his next book? I can't wait!

Rating: Summary: An outstanding, brilliantly written book Review: The premise and plot of this book is essentially simple, and will be familiar to most modern readers: a lot of money, a small group of people, suspicion, deceit, coverup, tension and death. As well as being familiar, many readers may also complain that the plot is predictable (a modern author has to resort to fantasy in order to avoid that accusation nowadays), but I found the plot continuously surprising, right to the last moment. Where this book differs from the mass of similar books and films is that it is outstandingly written. My recommendation therefore is that you should not go and see the film. The film is perfectly adequate, but inevitably loses the depth that makes the book exceptional. This book is essentially a character study. It examines the behaviour of an ordinary individual under a set of exceptional circumstances, creating a rounded, disparate, living collection of characters whom you feel you could easily meet in the street of an ordinary small U.S. town. Read this book.
Rating: Summary: You Can See Where the Author is Coming From Review: I finished this book about an hour ago and while it is still fresh in my mind I would to comment on it. Basically, it is well written and an enjoyable read. I recommend it to anyone who likes thriller/suspence. The violence and brutality was overdone - but then in most American novels [and movies] it always is. It is what the public wants and what they get. Authors know this and remember their occupation is to sell books. One thing that became apparent to me while I was reading it was the emotional simalirity of this book with the rather long forgotten novel Teresa Raquin [sp?] written by Zola more than a century ago. The expression of guilt and survival seemed almost identical. I suspect that Scott Smith might have been influenced by this book.
Rating: Summary: These People Are Nuts! Review: Okay, the book keeps you reading. I read it in two days which is unusual for me (slow deliberate reader). However, how many mistakes can these people make? I just thought it was a little over the top. Incidently, I think all of the mistakes were due to the wife (I'm female, so this is not a sexist remark). It's definitely worth reading for two reasons: first, you can side with the bad guy and be surprised at yourself; and second, you can truly question your own morality. For these reasons I'd say the book is at least thought provoking.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!!! Review: This is one of the best books that i have read. It's hard to put down because you are always think about what will happen next. I read the book then watched the movie. The movie is almost 100 percent different from the book. Read this book. It is awesome
