Rating: Summary: Not as good as the movie, by far Review: I couldn't stand to finish this book. I bought this book after watching the movie, and loving it, but the book took a completely different toll. The book started out great, until Hank went on a killing rampage. Sarah continued to egg him on, not seeming to care a wit about the death of Jacob. The ending was the worst yet. I thought it would be all over, Hank going home to burn the money, but he decided to claim a couple more victims. After the scene at Lou's house, I lost all respect for Hank, which I did have watching the movie. Maybe I'm just bitter watching the movie before reading the book.
Rating: Summary: I guess you either love it or hate it . . . Review: Count me as one who liked it (alot). I was intrigued by the storyline. The notion of finding enough money to be fabulously wealthy forever is something most people can sink their teeth into. Would things have gone so badly had it been me who found the duffel bag? I'd like to think I wouldn't become a mass murderer. But isn't that the point the author was trying to make: average Joe is put into extraordinary circumstances only to find he's really depraved and homicidal. I think it went too far a few times, perhaps a few too many corpses. I wasn't thrilled about the brother and the old lady, but the dog and the daughter - UGH! As for the ultimate fate of the money? Why couldn't someone have taken a job with the Federal Reserve? I know even murderers have standards, but come on! Let's not throw out the baby with the bath water. I LIKED Scott Smith's writing style. I liked his use of foreshadowing. I liked how Hank was a fairly understandable bloke . . . for a time. All in all, an excellent first novel. One final thought: I hope Hank and Sarah never split up. Talk about your messy divorce.

Rating: Summary: Good read Review: While A Simple Plan is not a great book, it provides a good read. The story moved along at a pretty good clip and kept my interest and provided good entertainment. Read it for fun and forget it. If you want something thought provoking or memorable, i suggest you look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: absolutely mesmerizing Review: This book sat in my bookcase for months until I finally decided to read it. What an excellent decision! The story was absolutely mesmerizing with a fantastic plot and very well written. It was tightly constructed with no obvious loose ends. This first novel held my interest as the narrator Hank, an accountant, reveals how he, his older brother Jacob and Jacob's friend Lou accidently discover a crashed plane and over $4 million hidden within its fuselage. From the decision to take the money, Hank reveals the thoughts and emotions, the fear, anxiety and the development of sociopathy with rationalization and self-preservation justifying increasingly violent and irrational behavior. The story has the ability of allowing the reader to think along with Hank and his wife Sarah and compare their decisions to what the reader may have done in similar circumstances that makes this a great exercise in values clarification.
Rating: Summary: IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS Review: I actually had to take a morning off from work just to finish this book.....I was so hooked on it and had to know how it ended. Two brothers and a friend find a small plane that has crashed in an isolated field. Upon some investigation, they find 4.5 million dollars inside. Now they have to figure out how to keep the money without anyone finding out and, more importantly, how to keep their mouths SHUT. I hate to use the much used phrase page-turner but there is nothing else to describe this book more accurately. I will readily admit that parts of the book are disturbing and the author may have gotten a bit carried away and maybe that's why I liked it so much....he went that extra mile. If someone said to me to recommend a book that they won't be able to put down, this is definitely the one.
Rating: Summary: The Movie Was Three Fourths Complete! Review: I hate to use the oft-repeated phrase, but this one is definitely one that "a reader cannot put down." I read the book prior to viewing the film adaptation and found it to be one of the most engrossing reads that I have found in over twenty years. THIS is the BOOK! My only disappointment was the film adaptation that missed about 1/4 of the story. I suppose the heavy body count was just too much for the movie-going public to grasp. However, the book is a MUST!
Rating: Summary: A thriller adventure book Review: An absoulutley thriller that builds your eximent eagerl
Rating: Summary: Excellent reading, every page good! Review: I may have never read this book if not for my sister who saw the movie. I said "let me read the book first". With Hank being the "family man", I found myself siding and rooting for him, then I realized "He is evil, how could I possibly root for the bad guy? Normally, my novel reading time is on the bus excursion to and from work, but I continued in the evening and was anxious to find out what would happen next. It was a real page turner. There is a lot of detail about the baby, I guess that is where the balance of good becomes, but true, that end murder spree was little too much, seemed like he was going to kill forever to keep people out of the way! Good Book!
Rating: Summary: FREE VIOLENCE Review: THey softened the history in the movie. I was shocked by the free violence. THe scene in which Hank kills an old woman in a store is totally unecessary, and the ridiculous destiny of his daughter (an accident which crippled her) has nothing to do with the history, as if, for having murdered seven people, a crippled child would make things even. Bá !
