Summary: Page Turner - Could be alot better
Review: Brad Meltzer is a wonderful writer - he has a real way with words - too bad he doesn't have better story lines - my sister gave me his 3 books when I was bedridden after surgery for a broken ankle - you find the same characters (with different names) in all three books: the goofy assistant/friend, the girl - can you trust her or not, the main character who does something stupid, thinks its earth shattering and then tries to save himself, only making it worse (and getting someone killed) - if he had gone to the proper authorities in the first place we would have had a 2 chapter book - it wasn't that big of a deal to begin with. Meltzer's 1st book 'The Tenth Justice' is his best so far.

Summary: Exciting read
Review: This is the second book by Meltzer that I truly enjoyed. The pace starts off slow and builds to a dramatic climax where I found myself racing to the end. I read this in two sittings. It's a book you won't want to put down.

The only thing that keeps this book from perfect is the same malady that plagues most thrillers and that is all the anti-climatic mish mash that detracts from the story being told.

Meltzer does a decent job of developing the main characters; however, he could have added a bit more on some of the secondary characters as we hardly get to know Conrad and Guff (just enough to want to know more). It was easy to picture Sara and Jared

I look forward to reading his next book, First Counsel. If you love fast paced legal thrillers (with less emphasis on the law and more on action) then you will love this book.

Summary: Bad, Really Bad
Review: This was one of the worst books that I have ever read. I never do reviews but thought I would let the world know before another person wastes valuable time. How can anyone tell me that this was a good book or worse yet, "the best book ever"?

As I sit here and type I still can't believe I continued to read this entire book (I keep saying I was going to quit). I have read The Millonaires and The First Counsel and thought they were both decent but still lacked realistic character developments. In this one, the characters are unbelievable while being completely irritating. The story line is so far fetched it is beyond fiction. My advice, avoid this at any cost.

After three tries I have added Brad Meltzer to my list of authors never to read again.

Summary: The most enjoyable book, (fiction), I have ever read!
Review: This is the 2nd book by Meltzer I have read. After completing his 1st book, The Tenth Justice, (see my previous review) I ran to the library and picked up Dead Even.

Dead Even came through big time! Meltzer's first book left me wanting a better ending. One that was slowly revealed instead of a quick, wrap-up. Dead Even did it! I would say that nearly 100 pages BEFORE the end, Meltzer begins to unwrap the conclusion. This is the way you would expect it in real life. A few hints here and there until the finale.

For a fiction, I would go out on a limb and say this is the most enjoyable book I have ever read. I hope you find as much pleasure in reading it as I did!

Summary: The first Meltzer book I read.
Review: dead Even was great! first rate characters. Tremendous plotting. The best book by a lawyer other than Grisham and Turow.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A truly great thriller and what a plot!
Review: I would have never guessed how the author would have written this first rate book! It was so fresh, new and exciting all at once. great fun!

Summary: If this was a movie I would have walked out
Review: This book clearly shouts "first novel" and I don't even know if it was his first. The dialog is boring, and written as if he were following a "how to write dialog" template. The characters were unbeliveable and shallow. Even the husband/wife relationship (supposedly crafted after his own marraige) was boring. It's a good thing this was not the first Meltzer book I tried becuase I would never read another.

Summary: A Book Worth Reading
Review: This is a good book. There was not a page that made me want to close the book or fall asleep. Buy it!

Summary: Better than Grisham and Turrow together!
Review: Fabulous page turner! I couldn't put it down and stayed up until all hours reading dying to know what would happen next. If you like legal thrillers you will love Dead Even. If you are tired of legal thrillers you will love Dead Even. Excellent book. My husband who usually only reads biographies or historical novels is reading it on my recommendation and loving it as much as I did. I can't imagine who would not like this book.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Entertaining
Review: Good read, and very likeable characters. The book had a great premise, and setup but just lost it at the ending. There were to many questions that were left unanswered. Once I knew more about the villians, I was pretty disappointed.

This could have been a great book but none the less a good read.
