Summary: Nice summer reading
Review: Fun book. Another of those where female can feel identified and laugh at the difficulty of finding a decent partner for them. My husband did not find it funny at all, he just could not relate.

Summary: A great read!
Review: This book was very entertaining and it rang so true. The themes could be heavy at times, but is was never depressing. I liked that the chapters were all so different, it provided a sense of the character at different stages in her life. I loved the way the author dealt with all the different relationships the main character has. I highly recommend this book!

Summary: Disappointment
Review: I found the book to be too loosely thrown together. I felt like the author had a lot of humorous dialogue she wanted to share on the subject of dating and family life, but the vehicle for it is weak. Some of the chapters are unnecessary diversions and only confuse the timeline of events. If you are low on chick books left to read, go ahead and pick up a copy of the book, you will be entertained by the main character's wit. But there is little else to keep you turning the pages. Stick to Bridget Jones.

Summary: Okay
Review: This book seemed a little disjointed to me. In fact, there is one chapter in the middle of the book that I don't understand why it is part of the story. For a quick read, go ahead a read this book. However, don't bother if you want something satisfing to read.

Summary: A female "Catcher In the Rye"
Review: I couldn't put it down... This was the best book I've read in awhile. I loved Banks' voice and her character, Jane, had me laughing out loud; the book was uplifting and fun and I fell in love with the main character. I could somehow see similarities between Hunting and Fishing and Catcher in the Rye, with the everyday occurances of a really likable main character. A perfect beach read.

Summary: Absolutely Stellar
Review: Melissa Bank has a true gift with words. "You Could be Anyone" is about the most touching piece of fiction I've ever read. Far above the authors she is usually lumped with in the Helen Fielding genre, Bank's work has some true emotional depth to it.

My only question is: when the HECK is she publishing her next book?

Summary: An Unusual Taste of Life
Review: It is the story of Jane Rosenal setting out on her journey in life. Jane gives us an unusual taste of life between her dating a man older than her father and her imaginary friends who wrote a book about how to attract men. It is funny, yet sad. All in all, as Jane grows up, the book becomes stranger and stranger switching points of view and having flashbacks. Still, with all the confusion, the book delivers a poignant message to it's readers. BE YOURSELF. That is the most important thing a book can tell a person.

Summary: very funny and enjoyable
Review: I literally read this book in a day while at the beach. It was a light, easy read. There was a chapter in the middle that threw me off and I still haven't figured out what it was about. I asked some others, and they don't know either. But parts of it were funny funny funny! I read some of them out loud to my beach companions, they were so funny. The character development was good, and the last half was better than the first. Over all, a fun and enjoyable read.

Summary: where's the beef?
Review: I was prepared to love this book, but found myself unable to get past its inherent shortcomings. First and foremost, where are the characters? I liked the dialogue, but conversations were replaced by snappy one-liners and, although I admired the spunk and wit, I was left unfulfilled and disappointed. Books are most interesting when the reader can take a personal interest in the characters, but without conversation, I found the characters flat and non-compelling. Another problem I have with this book is that it is purportedly about meeting "Mr. Right" (aka hunting and fishing), but it was unclear what was so wrong about the "Mr. Wrongs". The author implies reasons, "I need to shrink myself to be with you", "he is a diabetic and an alcoholic", "he doesn't know me", but the reader is not shown the effect of these shortcomings, so are they really problems or are they excuses? When Jane meets "The One" at the end of the book, he looks strikingly like the three men that preceded him. Of all Jane's relationships, the only one that possesses any depth or intimacy is that with her father, and I'm not going down that road. Finally, and this is a minor point, where was the editor? There is a chapter in the middle of the book that clearly has no business being there. The only connection between the story in this middle chapter and the rest of the book, is a passing reference to Jane and the fact that the characters are bipeds. Two of the main characters, as well as two periphery characters, are editors so I would have expected better editing if for no other reason than consistency. I don't think this is a bad book, but it is low on my recommendation list.

Summary: interesting
Review: I enjoyed the short story set up that this book employs. As a single woman, I could relate to some of her life. I thought the first chapter was very funny.
