Rating: Summary: Wonderful, but... Review: **Warning: May contain spoilers**For the greater portion of this book, I was intrigued and entertained. I love the premise of having a father in the mob business, even Vince's determination to stay out. Vince is very likeable character, but I as a reader always latch onto the secondary characters. In this instance, I formed immediate attachments to Ray and Honest Abe, Vince's father. They were wonderful characters who I believe deserve much more development. I was unimpressed and even dissapointed with the interaction between Vince and his father. Honest Abe never came across as a frightening Mob boss or a loving father. In the world acording to Korman, he did little else than insult light fixtures and make bad furniture. Ray starts out as likeable and intelligent. In the end, he seems to become a different person entirely. Overall, the end to this book left a rather strange taste in my mouth. It is not a bad read, but if you are looking for a truly satifying read, this is probably not what you are looking for.
Rating: Summary: A fun and exciting book Review: A Review by Ryan Vince is getting ready for his big date with one of the popular girls from school. Alex his best friend is going threw a check list of what he needs for his big date. Vince took here to the movies that went ok until when they were at the beach and she needed a blanket, Vince opened up the back of his new car to see a body lying there. His date screamed and ran off it was Jimmy the Rat. Some of his fathers work he guessed. Vince doesn't tell any body what his dad's job is, but things get really wired when he starts dating an FBI agent's daughter. Over all I think this is one of the best romantic hidden love books out there. You see his dad is in the mob and he starts dating an FBI agent's daughter and there are some really close calls when he is with here. I didn't like the way that Vince got caught but that's my opinion. It was also funny at times and you just can't wait to keep reading. The ending wasn't that great either but I don't want to give it away. This book is kind of like Romeo and Juliet with the two completely different families that hate each other. I would recommend this book for people that like the classic play of Romeo and Juliet for the romance and the action in the book. Its an easy reading book.
Rating: Summary: Great. Review: Gordan Korman seemed to have leaped the extra mile in Son of the Mob, I loved everything about, except the ending. Vince Luca 17, a highschool student but also a Mob prince. He recieves what every kid wants a hefty allowance, a porsche for his birthday, and basically anything he wants. Even though the stuff he gets sometimes isn't bought, example the porsche. Good ol' Dad working for the vending machine buisness, Vince's way of putting the Mafia in code, Honest Abe Luca, Vince's father, keeps Vince protected and wealthy. His family consists of many uncles , which are under his father in the uh...buisness. When Vince gets a second date, his first was ruined by a Rat and a brother, Vince and Kendra seem to be the perfect couple except thier fathers are opposites, Kendra's dad works for the FBI, that happens to be the one who is trying to put Anthony Luca into the slammer. The book sends you in twists and turns, almost like a Romeo and Juiliet story. This was favortie book by far, I'm interested to see what Gordon Korman will do next.
Rating: Summary: The life of a teenage Loan-shark Review: Gordon Korman's Son of the Mob was an interesting read. 17-year old Vince Luca is faced with the everyday troubles of being a teenager plus the added stress of being a Mob boss's son. No matter how hard he tries he cannot escape his dad's supposed "vending machine business". From finding bodies in the trunk of his car to illegal horse betting on a school project Internet site, Vince tries his best to live a normal life. It is also a distraction having his girlfriend be an FBI agent's daughter! This story is filled with fast paced action and a likeable cast of characters. Will Vince be able to escape the life of a mobster or will he be cursed to it for the rest of his forever? If you are looking for a book that is fast and enjoyable, then this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: an entertaining story with a lot of laughs Review: Gordon Korman's story about a Mafia prince's attempts to lead a normal life and sustain a lasting relationship with a girl who's father happens to be the FBI agent bugging his house is both highly entertaining and gripping with it's fast-paced storytelling. Vince Luca swears that he wants nothing to do with his fater's 'vending machine business', because it has repeatedly caused him social disaster. However, when he does get involved in 'The Life' for what he feels is a legitimate reason, he gets tangled in a string of events that eventually overwhelms him. The characters in Son Of The Mob are very believeable, such as Vince's New Media class teacher (complete with his 'Your Problem' catchphrase), and Vince's slightly annoying friend Alex, who wants nothing more than to use Vince's Mob connections to set himself up with girls. The author's dry sense of humor kept me turning the pages of this book; the satirical remarks the characters make were, in several cases, laugh-out-loud funny. And although the ending was a little predictable, the plot still had a fair amount of twists and surprises. Son Of The Mob was a very enjoyable story with a great sense of humor and style. Korman keeps the jokes coming and the story flows consistently with suspense the whole time. Although I think the ending could have been a little better, I would definatley reccomend this book to anyone looking for a funny story with an entertaining, unsual plot.
Rating: Summary: "This an't no Goddfather..." Review: I have never lived a life in Organized Crime, and I'm glad. I read Son of the Mob, by Gordon Korman. He showed me the life of a 17 year old boy in Manhatten, 2002. The boys name is Vince Luca. Vince wants no part in the family business, "Vending Machines." But it gradruly seeps in to his personal life. Starts with a suprias in Vince's car trunk and ends up with an insder in the family.A girl comes around and Vince likes her, but her father is the FBI! The same agent after his Father! Korman puts you in the passenger seat of an exotic Love/Mob story. This book was great, I mean aweaweaweawessommmeee!!!!Theres no horse heads in the bed, no blazing gun fights, but everything else makes up for it. Its your turn in the passenger seat, buckel-up!
Rating: Summary: 2 words Review: i have two words to say for this reading selection "Great Book"
Rating: Summary: Great!!! awsome read! Review: I just finished reading this book, and all though the writing is a little bit ackward in some areas, the story line is fantastic. Vince's family is in the "vending maching" buisness, but Vince wants no part of "the Life". Instead he makes an honest attempt to stay sane and in good terms with the law. This all changes when he meet's his new girlfriend who's father is an FBI agent, who just happens to be bugging their house!! Vince has to find out some way to hide this from his parents, and never let her dad find out he's the son of "Honest Abe Luca"
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: I liked this book and so did alot of people as I can see so I'm not really gonna write along review. The only problem I has with this book was the view it was written in(you know, third or first person) and the fact that the main character kept mentioning he was the son of "Honest Abe" Luca. He said it like 80 times!
Rating: Summary: mards review Review: I recommend this book Son of the Mob to any one 10 years of age and up. This book is funny and at the same time can draw you in with its seriousness. When he is playing football no one wants to tackle him because they are scared of what his father might do. "I can't explain it right now coach but you have to bench me" says Vince. Yet the book can also be serious, like when Vince and his father are arguing about the problem with Jimmy and Ed "You know who's ripping off Jimmy and Ed so they never got the money to pay you, you are." You can read this book at any time it is a book that you read for fun and to enjoy.
