Rating: Summary: If you didn't like History in School, READ THIS BOOK! Review: Public Schools seriously fail the students in the area of American History. Nothing but meaningless dates and names. Reading this book has stirred a new interest in American History for me. It describes the attitudes, lifestyles, and dreams of the Colonial Americans. I could almost picture myself there. The author gives you a taste of the struggles, the pain, and also the reasons that things happened. If you were bored with History in school, but wish you had a good teacher that would have made American History come alive, read Prelude to Glory. This book fills in the gaps.
Rating: Summary: Prelude To Glory #1-Our Sacred Honor-Hey Grandpa!-Great! Review: The book Our Sacred Honor, written by Ron Carter, is very well put together. It is humorous frequently, and is very entertaining. For example, at one part it is describing how this great, powerful, huge army of British is marching to Concord...and then they fall right into a bog. There are many funny parts in this book that I would want to share. It is a riot! I really loved this book, not only because of the humorous parts, but also because it is very descriptive, and the words sound so good together. There is only one thing I don't like was the gore. It is not very often, but at times it is nauseating. I really like the way he words some sentences like, 'He jerked the reins to stop and the horse battled for breath.' It is descriptive and the words work together like a river going to sea. The story is centered around a family who is on the colonial side-the eldest son (Matthew) is engaged to a lovely young woman, and the eldest daughter is stunned by this young lieutenant on the British side. It is packed with action, war and adventure. Our Sacred Honor is only the first fantastic volume of a whole series by Ron Carter (my grandpa!). These books are very well written and should be read time and time again. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: This is a Captivating book Review: the reason that I liked this book so well is that I did not know much about the revolutionary war, I learned more true facts than I did in school with a twist of love throughout the book it held my attention. It was easy reading, it's hard to wate for the vol 2 great book I recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Prelude to Glory (All 3 volumes) Review: This is by far the most excellent series of historically based fiction that I have ever read. I was there with the soldiers as they were fighting for the freedom and liberty that we hold so dear today. I had to put an extra blanket on my bed while I was reading about the conditions that were suffered through during the winter. I was ducking for cover as the cannons thundered and the musket balls whistled past. The interlacing of histroical fact with a very few fictional characters is masterful. Mr. Carter should be congratulated on bringing the struggle of the American Revolution to life in an entirely readable manner. I wish I could have studied American history in high school using Mr. Carter's works, I certainly would have done better and enjoyed the class much more. Even if you do not read them for the historical significance, you should read them for the enjoyment of reading a very good series of books.
