Rating: Summary: Dummies-books=Top Info. Rest mostly unnecessary complicated Review: The authors seem to be able to put themselves into the thinking of the newcomer.
Rating: Summary: Cannot recommend this book Review: The book was marketed to me with unsolicited E-Mail from an undeliverable address. For me, this is reason enough not to buy this book on the Internet.
Rating: Summary: Levine et al's Internet for Dummies Review: The Editor has done an excellent job of reviewing, as usual, and I just want to add a few details. Levine has a Ph.D. in computer science from Yale, and Young also has a Degree from Yale. You generally cannot go wrong with a mathematics, physics, or computer science book from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, etc. The ability to translate difficult concepts into ordinary English for all people requires Creative Genius of the highest order. See my reviews of some of the Schaum's Outlines and Scientific American for more on this, and some of my other mathematics and physics book reviews discuss it too. Translating in these fields requires moving from quantitative to qualitative or verbal language, and it often helps inspire the expert as much as the reader with new ideas. Levine et al are experts at summarizing, alphabetizing, isolating the core concepts, isolating errors and counterexamples, all of them key skills in translating into ordinary English.
Rating: Summary: This book is the best internet book that I want to have. Review: This book is like a dream come true. I liked this book the best because it is made of plastic cover.
Rating: Summary: Very helpful to new web gurus. Review: This book is very helpful to new internet users
Rating: Summary: Too cute, not enough solid information. Review: This was my first "dummies" book, and definitely my last. There's enough basic information to help you get started, but I spent too much time trying to make my way through the too-cute text looking for solid information. This series may be a bestseller, but my dollars would have been far better spent elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: What our readers say about this book: Review: We print our e-mail address in the book and ask for feedback. Here are some recent comments from our readers:"The book is great. Now I don't have to be embarrassed and rely on my teenage son for information. Thanks!" "The spread open binder is great idea. Interesting info on subjects. For instance I don't use AOL but your coverage helps me get a broader understanding of the Internet. I read about subjects I don't need to use because you make them interesting." "Your book is helping me to learn about the Internet. I would suggest it to anyone who is computer challenged!" "Found a lot of interesting tips." "without it I would not be communicating with you. Yes! Definitely TWO THUMBS UP and when I've had time to use it more thouroughly I'll probably be lifting both arms up and exclaiming: 'Hallelujah, I have arrived!'" "Les felicito por su libro Internet para Dummies, ha sido de gran ayuda." "My wife and I are enjoying your book! Still nervous and overwhelmed but your making it a lot easier. Thanks! Keep up the good work! " "Worth triple the money."
