Summary: Another page-turner !
Review: Another fast paced story rich with desciptive writing and strong characters. As a resident of the Phildelphia area I am impressed with Griffin's intimate knowledge of the area. My biggest complaint is that I can't get these books fast enough. Those who remember the late Frank Rizzo will be glad to see him imortalized as "Jerry Carlucci"

Summary: The weakest book in the weakest series
Review: As a lover of Griffin's books, I was very dissapointed in this installment of the Badge of Honor Series. Unfortuneatly, Griffin understands the mindsets and motives of cops, soldiers, and marines much better than he does criminals. The animal rights activist turned vicious urban terrorist villain is not a believable character. You could skip this one and not have missed a thing.

Summary: Extremely enjoyable and waiting for more.
Review: As a Phila. Police Officer I have always enjoyed reading WEB Griffin's Badge of Honor series. I always await the release of his newest novel in the series with baited breath. The Investigators is no exception. Mr. Grifffin's grasp of locations and department proceedures is fascinating. Each novel touches on actual events that have faced the Philadelphia Police Department at one time. The only criticism I have for this novel is that I wanted to see some of the personal issues involving the key characters addressed more thoroughly. This may be a good marketing technique in that it leaves me salivating for more. I anxiously await Badge of Honor Book VIII

Summary: griffin has a new fan
Review: As an avid Ed McBain reader I was looking for something to fill the void while waiting for the next installment of the 87th precinct series; in Griffin's Badge Of Honor series I have found it.

The Investigators is the first Griffin book I have read but it will be far from the last. I have since read the Victim and the Murderers and have ordered the rest of the series.

The book is well written and very true to Philadelphia life in the 70's when I was there. The similarity between Jerry Carlucci and Frank Rizzo is uncanny.

I would highly recommend the Badge of Honor series to any fan of police procedurals.

Summary: Another winner
Review: As usual I could not put down a w..e.b. griffin book. Excellent reading. The way he gives you bit and pieces from previous books. Start with book 1 and read the whole series. If you like this book you will also like the other series he does

Summary: The Best of the Series
Review: Being a United States Marine, you would think that I would be more involved in "The Corps" series. Though after reading "Semper Fi", did not find it quite as griping as "Men in Blue", and quickly fell in love with the "Badge of Honor" series. This is by far the best book of the series. Never before have I been so twisted around a plot before by a detective novel. The outcome is sheer brilliance, and every step to the end will not let you put the book down. I hope that this is not the end of the series, then what else would I have to read?

Summary: Terrible
Review: Do not invest in "The Investigators". If you've read any of W.E.B. Griffin's Badge of Honor group of novels - you've read 85% of this one, previously. If you know your Griffin, he has large numbers of characters in each book - well, they are all here in this one and by way of "reintroduction", Griffin gives a not so mini biography of each one again. Their education, their pecking order within the Philly Police Department, who likes whom, about their fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. Who's sleeping with whom for several generations. Again, very typical of Griffin, the 'main' players all drive snappy sports cars, everyone else drives a shiny Buick. The word "shiny" comes up a lot in a Griffin novel. Everyone, except the bad guys, have shiny cars. Everyone has "shiny" shoes - the main players have shiny loafers. Lots of loafers. No mention is made to the status of the bad guy's shoes - but one assumes they are scuffed. The story, what little there exists, is a variation of the "boy meets girl, loses, etc." The variation is "Amazingly dumb fair haired young hero, meets incredibly stupid girl and together do really stupid and illegal things. The only sympathetic characters in the book are the several waitresses and waiters who "overhear" the last few words of a sentence ending in "up in jail", "or dead" and flee to the safety of the kitchen, and the Mafia Don who plays the violin, has people doing vile and villainous things to people - So, you have the biographies, the shiny shoes, and everytime a character 'thinks or ponders' you get your pages of italicized type. Can't ask for much more than that. Griffin must be older than dirt or he researches very well. Every cliché ever used to either describe police/military work ("No rest for the virtuous.") or being in love/lust ("Be still my beating heart.") or sex ("Playing hide the salami."). Those and so many others are on virtually every page that isn't a biography of all the tired older characters of previous books, almost makes this a source book for stilted writing. Not only should you not buy this book, but if checked out at the library, do not, for Pet's sake, allow it to become overdue - the fee you will have to pay is a gross overpayment. Not that "they" would listen - but I suggest Griffin, his agent, and the publisher, Jove, every year or so when they need or would like more money - take out an advertisement that says "instead of inflicting another worthless effort.

Summary: Fast-paced, well-written, and full of terrific dry humor.
Review: Griffin has a terrific fast-paced style full of wit and fine detail. If you're looking for super-realism and Doctor Shivago, forget it. This is a pulp novel with a lovable character, good action, sexy characters -- and a police department you can't get enough of. I loved it and could not put it down. Thank god it's 500+ pages. The ending is a bit rough, but that makes the book stick in your mind all the more. Great job.
