Rating: Summary: Montana 1948 Review: I enjoyed reading this novel because it was very interesting. Reading this book was a positive experience for me because if it wasn't for my teacher I would have never read this book and I would have missed out on a very good book. The author was able to hold my interest throughout the whole book. He did this by always adding some scenes to the book making you want to know what was going to happen next. Especially the scene in the beginning when the mom figures out what Uncle Frank is doing to Marie. To me the characters were interesting and believable because the way their attitudes are in the book are the same as those as a real person and that makes the book interesting and believe. My favorite character was David Hayden. He was my favorite character because he was the main character and also because of the ways he described things in this book. I think the author did a good job at creating all the characters in the book. I learned that it's good to do the right thing no matter who it involves, that what I learned from this book. I gain more knowledge by reading this book because it shows you that in this world anything can happen. I would recommend this book to my friends because it is interesting and is a positive experience.
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: I didn't really like Montana 1948, because it was a boring book. Reading this book was very not a positive experience for me because uncle Frank was child molester and always with the Indians especially with one Indian named Marie Little Soldier. I didn't like this topic at all. The characters in this book are all dumb, especially David's dad because he doesn't believe what they said of uncle Frank. I don't think he should be like that. I think my favorite character was nobody. The author did a good job on creating the characters I just don't like the book. I don't think the author made this book very interesting. Because it only talks about uncle Frank's crime, and how she rape Marie Little Soldier. I don't recommend this book because is really a boring book and I don't think people want to read boring books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: The novel Montana 1948 was very interesting and was a positive experience for me. The book is fiction and was written by Larry Watson. This book was action packed and didn't lose my interest at any part of the book. This book has inspired me to read more books. The style of the book was unique and interesting the way the author wrote the book was very captivating I couldn't stop reading the book I even think I might read it again. The characters in the book were interesting. The main character David is a curios little boy and is twelve years old in the story but he is the one telling the story when he was 50 something years old. In the book he tells about major events that happened in his life. All of the events took place in Montana in 1948 and involved his family members and his friends. The important characters were Wes and Gale (David's dad and mom), Uncle Frank, Julian, Gloria, Marie little solider, and Len. My favorite part of the book was when the grandfathers workers were circling around the house and the mom fired at them. It was favorite part because I liked the suspense of the situation. I would not make any changes to the novel because I wouldn't know how to write it any better. In reading this novel I learned that all families have their secrets and that I like action in books. I enjoyed reading this book and it was a wonderful experience for me. I would recommend this book to anyone because it was one of the best novels that I have read. The book has every thing action drama and comedy it was so good I plan to read it again.
Rating: Summary: this is a great book Review: I enjoyed reading Montana 1948 for many reasons. First of all, it was a positive experience for me and it was a sad from the point of view of David (the man who tells the story). Second, it sounded like a real live person with all those problems that they had, even though the story is fictional. Larry Watson, the author, was able to hold my interest throughout the entire novel because at first it sounded like the typical family, but soon it turns out that uncle Frank is a rapist and grandpa Julian is a selfish and rich old man. He also uses vivid language and a very good description of his characters. Third, is that I like how it sounds when David is trying to remember the story and telling it in his own way. My favorite scenes in this novel was where uncle Frank committed suicide, because you could easily imagine him breaking all the jars and seeing him on the floor covered in blood. My second favorite scene is when Gail (mom) was holding the shotgun and waiting steadily in the doorway. This scene turned out to be funny for me because she could not load the gun and was holding it in the wrong position. This is a book that I would recommend to my friends and family members because its interesting. It has like a twisted end, and you can never imagine that there is going to be a rape scene or that the good guy is going to be miserable because he did a good thing.
Rating: Summary: Joses Montana 1948 review Review: I did enjoy reading Montana 1948. It was a positive experience because I like how it was dramatic story with a little twist. For example, the ending took me by surprise. The author was able to hold my interest because there would always be little conflicts and incidents that kept me reading. My favorite part in the novel was when Marie told Gail that uncle frank molested her. Another is when uncle frank commits suicide. One part I would change is the part when the grandfather and a couple of friends go to brake out Frank. Then Gail shot one buckshot out the window towards them to scare them. Then they leave. The part I would change is Gail should of shot one of them. From reading this novel I learned that even doing the right thing, the aftermath is sometimes bad. I would recommend this book if you like a mellow story with a little drama.
Rating: Summary: Good Book! Review: Montana 1928, By Larry Watson was an excellent novel and it was worth reading. I thought it was a very good book because the characters were very interesting but mostly because it was from the little boy's point of view. Also I enjoyed the plot of the story. The best parts of the book were the characters. I thought the author of the book described the characters well. I think that all the characters were interesting, the way they acted in the story just fit in with the plot of the story. My favorite character was David Hayden, the kid and also teller of the story, because he told the story from his point of view. I think the author did a terrific job of holding the readers interest throughout the novel. The plot had very interesting events and I wanted to know what was going to happen next. An example of this is when his own brother West Hayden, the father of David Hayden, arrested Uncle Frank. I learned many things from the novel. I learned a little of how people lived and thought in the old days. Also I learned more about the conflicts between Indians and Americans and how you should learn from your mistakes and don't do the same mistakes over. I would definitely recommend this novel to a friend.
Rating: Summary: DA REV Review: I really enjoyed reading the novel because when we read as a class it gets me more involved in the story. I get more interested in things when a lot of people get involved. This book deals with racism and respect for human life. I think that it was a positive experience because it brought the class together as a whole. It got us enraptured in the story. I think my favorite parts were when Wes was going to get shot by Julian because he kept Frank in the basement. This was my favorite part because it shows how a lot of families resolve problems... with a glock. If I could make any changes I probably would've kept Frank alive and make him pay for what he did. ... I would recommend this book to my friends. It has a lot of action and suspense. It far surpasses the boundaries of books. My favorite book of all time Montana 1948!!
Rating: Summary: Montana 1948 Review: I enjoyed reading Montana 1948 very much. I founded it exciting and mysterious. This book was a positive experience for me because it showed me how another family lived with different kind of people and races. I found these characters to be believable and significant. Out of all the characters in the novel I favored the Sheriff the most. His thoughts and actions were mellow and intelligently thought out. For example when the sheriff arrested his brother he licked him up in his basement instead of the jail. I feel the authors choice of characters were perfect because there were like normal people. The author was able to hold my interest because things would happen in the story and you wouldn't find out until a couple of paragraphs. For example when the Indian girl died all of a sudden you didn't find out what happened right away. The author kept my attention throughout the whole story because of all the problems of each character of the story. Also it was an interesting plot. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good book. I recommend it because it is not like any other novels. I liked it because it wasn't "G" rated and other books are. Also it deals with real time problems rather than unrealistic problems.
Rating: Summary: Good Book! Review: I enjoyed the middle to the end of the novel Montana 1948, mainly because the beginning was pretty boring, the middle and the end had excitement and suspense. I don't think reading this book was a positive experience, but it wasn't a negative one either. I just enjoyed reading the story because it was a very interesting story with a surprising twist. I think the author did a very good job with the characters because they were interesting, and they were all different. My favorite character was David because he's the one telling the story so it just gets you that much closer to that character. I would make some changes to the beginning of the novel because it took to long to get to the dramatic scenes of the book. Otherwise it was good. What I learned from reading this novel is, do what's right from the beginning or else it will escalate to a bigger problem. I would recommend this novel to a friend because it's exciting, interesting and suspenseful and that's what I like in a book.
Rating: Summary: Montana 1948 Review: Amazon.com booted me to "Kids' Review," but this is SO not just a kids' book!! This small novel, easily readable in a few hours, will stay with you for a long time. The elements of racism and family loyalty, combined with the interesting setting (smalltown Montana in, surprise, 1948)and the superb writing make this a book I will recommend forever. I loaned my copy to a friend who loved it and was haunted by it for so long that she finally went out and bought herself a copy! How often do you choose to buy a book once you've read it for free?
