Summary: Don't read this in public!
Review: Normally I read only mystery novels, hundreds of them each year. However, I saw this title last time I was at the library and picked it up (having read Fried Green Tomatoes a while back). This book was very engrossing. Towards the end of the book I found myself crying - which was quite embarassing because I was riding on a commuter train at the time!I see that others are a bit more critical, and comparative - but I think this is a good read!

Review: I was a little disappointed with Flagg's most recent installment of the South that we rarely get to see in the history books. I myself just couldn't get excited about "Baby Girl", alias Dena Nordstrom. I enjoyed witnessing her personal journey, but I found it difficult to feel sympathy towards her. "Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!" just wasn't as charming as Flagg's previous work. I must admit, it got better as it went along, but waiting until you're two-thirds of the way into the book is an awful long time.

Review: I loved both Fried Green Tomatoes and Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man and was thrilled to see a new book by Fannie Flagg. The thrill was short-lived. All the depth and charm of the characters in her previous books is missing here. The dialogue seems stilted and awkward. This reads more like a screenplay than a novel. I was really disappointed

Summary: Flagg explores identity in good, but not great, work
Review: I share the discontent of numerous reviewers who were disappointed with Fannie Flagg's most recent novel. Baby Girl lacks the depth and warmth of her two previous novels, but Flagg admirably succeeds in presenting a quirky, conflicted, isolated protagonist struggling to discover her identity. The hidden strength of this novel is the author's withering critique of modern visual journalism and the demise of the private domain in individuals' lives. With the current impeachment of the President over an essential private affair, Dena Nordstrom's conflicted commentaries are an unexpected pleasure. If you are a fan of Fannie Flagg, you will enjoy this novel, but you will be left with a sense that this author is capable of far greater achievements.

Review: I agree with with other reviewers. This book was written for the big screen. I enjoyed the narrative writing, but the ending was a disappointment for me. But, it was a good read and I would read it again.

Review: I have been waiting for a long time to read this book and I must have built it up too much in my mind. I read the book in 2 days and found it an easy read but not what I was craving. There were plenty of parts that reminded me of Fried Green Tomatoes but it just didn't quite make it. The best part to me was the Neighbor Dorthy's radio show!!!

Review: What a wonderful story this is. I couldn't put it down. Generally I read crime fiction and I was so pleasantly surprised with this book. I can't wait to read the author's other novels.

Summary: Excellent read! Well drawn characters
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this one by Flagg. I found it amusing with a depth that strikes to the very heart. Rates up there with Fried Green Tomatoes...Flagg has a way of drawing you with her eccentric, comic characters and then hits you with seriousness of the issue involved... I highly recomment this to anyone who enjoys laughing and crying all in the same book...

Summary: Endearing, funny, somewhat thought provoking.
Review: Having loved Fanny Flagg's previous books I was more than ready for this one. I was surprised that she set it in the 70's and thoroughly enjoyed flipping between the 40's and the 70's and small town life and big city pressures. I found the romance between Dena and Gerry amusing but unbelieveable. I appreciate that in each of her books Fanny Flagg has given us a new social problem to deal with. Good read.
