Summary: Ouch.
Review: Oh my good god, do not read this book. It's worse than a Harlequin romance novel. It's awful. Awful. Pure evil. A disgrace to the series.

Ow. Make it go away.

Summary: A Must
Review: I enjoyed Narcissus in Chains and hope that Ms. Hamilton writes the seris more along this path. Finally the story is starting to contain answers for the menage that is ever so a key feature. I a hoping that Cerulean Sins is just as good or better. A must read for Anita Blake fans.

Summary: Not her best-
Review: I enjoyed the way this moves forward in the greater scope of the story of Anita's life. The way things are shaping up is very interesting, and Anita is gaining more and more power. This both pulls her closer and pushes her away from Richard and Jean-Claude.

The first half or so of the book dragged. There was way too much sex. Now, I like reading about sex, but to be honest, this is not where Laurel Hamilton's talent lies. She is a great writer of action and has an incredible imagination. But, the sex scenes just drag. Honestly, Anita is am amazing prude for someone who has slept with just about everyone! She spends endless amounts of time trying not to have sex, convincing everyone she is some born-again virgin, then she goes at it with them next guy(s). Can't speak for everyone, but for me, that whole good girl plot line has worn thin. Time for her to grow up and join the 21st century. The '50's are over.

On the other hand, the book really improved near the end, as the groups pulled together. It was much like her writing in the earlier books, and the action moved right along.

Summary: Series Continues To Slide...
Review: Unfortunately, this series continues to go downhill, sinking into a morass of gore, sex, S&M, rape and complete immorality. So hey, if thats your cup of tea, this is the book for you. Sadly, many of the things that made this series so interesting and unique initially are now gone. Getting through this book was like pushing jello uphill with a pitchfork. Slow, frustrating and ultimately pointless.

The book is mostly about Anita's love life, so....

In a nutshell, Richard is out and apparently having a nervous breakdown (bummer, but nobody seems to care anyway), JC is still the same (but more big brother/teacher than passionate lover), Micah is the new hot stud and soulmate ("who needs a personality when you have a big tool?"). Damian went on a murder spree and killed 2 people, but he's feeling much better now so its ok with Anita (this plot twist is covered in about 2 pages). Asher is still moping and feeling unloved (why doesn't he find his own city to be master of?). Nathanial is still doing his best to audition for the lead in the Perils of Pauline ("oh Anita, I fell down a well...HELP ME!!"). Jason fares the best, bless his furry little heart. And of course, they are all anxious to throw themselves at the feet of Anita and have sex with her(I suggest they take a number, at this rate, she'll . . . them all eventually...but it won't be because she WANTS to, but because she HAS to).

Can this series be saved? Sure, but I doubt Ms Hamilton is up to it. Stick with the Merry series, I understand that one is still fresh and fun.

Summary: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: When good series go bad.....
Review: This series used to have a strong female lead, conflicted by her prejudices in a brave new world of the undead, fairies, werewolves, etc. It was a great premise, and the reader got to follow Anita as Dorothy in her trip through the author's facinating new Oz.

In this book, Dorothy goes to Oz's red light district and becomes every man's nympho fantasy. Anita's role in this book was to have sex with just about everyone, because....well, there's no other way to highlight group sex scenes and slash (that's same sex action), which we are now to understand Jean-Claude will be pursuing on the side, now that he's been given "permission" by Anita.

As for Ms. Blake, she continues taking on every power, sleeping with every male within the city limits, and becoming de facto head of every shapeshifter group....in between group sex.

The last few books convinced me that this series had run out of steam....except for the porno kind. I almost didn't pick this one up, but I was in an airport and had a long flight......any lingering hopes I had that this series or character could be redeemed were totally blown away.

This book cannot be read with ANY suspension of disbelief. If you just want the sex, go right for it-there's plenty to be had. If you are looking for the original Anita Blake character and her moral conflicts, forget it. She's gone. And unlike her zombies--she ain't rising again.

Review: I love LKH books about AB.I was a little disapointedat this book but I'm going to keep on reading the series. Some might say that AB acts immature and lack morals,I don't think so .She only got her own version of morals
I don't think this books are for everyone, but speaking for myself this is a very good book and it's the best series i have ever read.LKH could have had a bit less sex in this book, but hey she's the writer.

Summary: ...
Review: I've read a lot of reviews about this book being hard to get into if you're a first-time reader of Hamilton's works.

This was my first experience with Hamilton, and I must say...wow.

I didn't find it difficult whatsoever to get into, as Hamilton thoroughly explains any and all references to the past...sometimes two or three times. Every once in a while, I'd quirk my head at a sentence and say, "Didn't she say that already? Twice?" This can be forgiven, since the novel is over 400 pages long - perhaps she thinks we might have forgotten the information 200 pages later. :)

I thought this book was very steamy, and it left me wondering if the rest of her novels were as erotic. If they are, you can be sure I'll be owning the entire collection.

My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that often in the book, there would be an activity pending...someplace to go, someone to save, and a few times I wished she'd just GET THERE ALREADY! Though I wouldn't say she was being tangential (I kept up with the story, even when I was waiting for the action to start), as she would give alot of awesome dialogue and good information that would lead the reader on an exotic ride. There is a thin veil between being tangential with your story and phrasing your words in a way that gives the maximum amount of back-dated information without bogging the reader down with 10 pages of history. I don't think she did this on every page, but there were a few distinct times that I thought she could have condensed it better.

Overall, a great read. I'm excited to read the prequels and sequels!

Summary: Things that make u go "Hmmmm"? (no more vacations for AB)
Review: You know, I am NOT one to tell an author how to write a book; and since LKH doesn't care what I think, I will state my feelings and hope to spare others the sheer and utter TORTURE that was NiC. Now, don't get me wrong- the series was great. VERY different from what I usually read, but this latest installment was PAINFUL.

I started this series after reading MANY reviews on this and other sites, being that it had romance was a plus, but I was ready for a change...and since all of my usual authors haven't released new works, I decided to give LKH's of GP and A Kiss of Shadows....Was excited and very happy at the original ideas of an alternate society. I ordered the first 5 books and anxiously awaited them.....I wolfed down the first 3 and proceeded to order the rest....then I hit the bump in the road that was TKD...(need I TELL you how much of a RAZ fan I am???). I took a break and read A Caress of Twighlight due to the constant RAZ-bashing and JC love-festing and the childish and cold-bloodedness that was Anita. I finished the rest with less enthusiam and REALLY came to a halt after OB....(was HAPPY after BM because I thought we were ACTUALLY getting somewhere with the Tri.) Understood AB was burnt out and needed a break; OK....but THIS....I could BARELY make it through this book and took as TWICE as long to read than OB- had to FORCE myself to finish it because I paid MONEY for this...I could have just waited until CS.

Ranting over, I'm here to talk about the story...OOOPS, there WASN'T any! Unless you count how many times could RAZ hate himself and how AB was very selfish and self-centered (big surprise!) and how many times JC would be described as " the beautiful manipulator" (paraphrasing)....and LET's not forget about the cardboard figure who simplified AB's love life....yes, ladies & gents: it's "AB in Drag" otherwise known as Micah: The Nimir-Raj (and his Magical Memember). The first half of this book (being that LKH writes the first couple of chapters following the last book to keep the flow) was very promising; this is where the disappointment comes in...AFTER the marriage of the Marks.

I have to say the between the sex, the constant WHINNING AB does of how SICK she is of people who actually HAVE a conscience and morals and really STICK to them (not just when they are convenient), and the CONSTANT hero-worshipping of AB the Goddess...there's not much left. WE hear inner-dialog, conversations and all while AB is SUPPOSED to be concerned about her Pard...then she sleeps w/someone she BARELY knew and it's the "arduer's" fault- so she is yet AGAIN, not resposible for her actions...BS! (And WHY would JC and RAZ leave her w/o anyone representing them???)

She has a beast- no, its the Marks... She's has vamp powers and a servant and animal-to-call- who needs the Tri right? OH, and let's not forget that she has a SOULMATE now after flip-flopping between TWO men this WHOLE time; which they are so SAD and PATHETIC (read: neutered) at this point it I am too disgusted to mention them (and I don't even LIKE JC!)... What can I say about Anita: she is spoiled, selfish, and tired, but guess what- RAZ and JC are tired too...I was so GLAD when they finally told her off- but then she resorts to PHYSICAL abuse towards them because she doesn't like what she hears and can't COPE like a normal adult. The Pard is still a laughable mess; the scenes and plot is so degrading to EVERYONE involved and AB saves the day by (quoting a friend) "sucking the life out of you while I stand over here"...did I happen to mention she has NEW and IMPROVED powers???

No thought, just action- per usual in the Anitaverse....AB has just turned into those bullies that used to pick on her; you know, back when we used to feel empathy for her and hoped she would "show them" and win (whine: I'm short and wasn't daddy's favorite; but now I pack "heat" and have neat powers and men ADORE me!)...now I just want her to get knocked off of the HIGH-HORSE she's riding. Who died and left you all-knowing queen of the universe! (Oh, yeah, LKH did.)

I felt NOTHING for her but contempt and felt more for the secondary cast that INCLUDED RAZ and JC, while Micah (who got center stage) was floating in the background doing ALL of these courageous things we NEVER got to see but heard and AB takes as fact (WHAT!???)...he leaves you with this creepy feeling that her unwise decision will bite her in the *ss...And, frankly, I hope it does! Then LKH futher insults you after ALL of the character assasinations by summing the book up in a few short paragraphs...(???) The only GOOD parts were seeing Jason, Nate and some others develop into PEOPLE, two Pard members finding love and AB getting told off....That's it!!! After 6 months of meditation and learning; playing Commando Barbie in NM (I love Edward)- THIS is what we get!??? HA- I will continue to watch for CS hoping it will be better (read excerpts- Micah is barely around, AB has gone back to work after living off of superPIMP aka Jean-Claude, and RAZ hits rock-bottom....Thrilling isn't it?). I am almost looking forward to Olaf coming to town.....

I found Merry's series more interesting than this and that is just book two. Start from the beginning of the series- then, if you want, work your way up and skim through NiC. You'll THANK me.
