Rating: Summary: Better and better, in fact Best! Review: I have read all of Ms. Hamilton's books and I am extremely pleased with NiC. She gathered all the threads that have been ravelling over the course of this series and not only brought it to a great conclusion, she left herself ample room to continue with the new story arc. Many times over the last few books it seemed as though she was writing herself into a corner that she couldn't get out of, but she not only gave everyone a big surprise she made me like it. I felt that the resolution had an internal consistancy that will allow me to continue to expect great things of Anita without knowing what those things will be.
Rating: Summary: different but in a good way Review: I am a major fan of the Anita Blake series. I think LKH has let Anita grow in these books little by little. Anita is finally opening herself up for others to love and care for her instead of her taking care of everyone else. This is good and something that has been missing in her life, probably since she was a child. I was happy that LKH resolve the Jean-Claude and Richard situation. I enjoyed learning a little more about Jean-Claude and Asher. She introduced some new characters and hinted that they have stories to tell, but left it to be told at a later date, much like she did with Edward. I have faith that she will get around to tell us and making them less "one-dimensional" like other viewers mentioned. Fleshing out these people was the main point of this book. I can't wait for the next one. Thanks LKH for another page turner. It was well worth the wait.
Rating: Summary: Narcissus in Chains Review: Yeah! Richard is gone sort of. Couldn't of happened to a nicer guy. Not that I don't like him which I don't but what a whiner. I wish he would just get over him self. This book was good not just because Richard might be a little more out of the picture. I have to admit though half way through I put the book down in shock. Not that the others books haven't had there moments but wow!!! I almost wasn't going to read the rest of the book. I consider my self to be a hard core Anita fan and I almost wavered. Well of course a day hadn't gone by before I was chewing my nails and making up all sorts of awful endings for the book. I finished it and wow. I'm still an Anita fan.
Rating: Summary: The best one of all! Review: Anita Blake's ongoing saga gets better every time Ms Hamilton treats us to a new book in the series. I couldn't put this one down! I could only wish that we didn't have to wait so long between books. Guess I'll have to read the entire series all over again to keep me going! P.S. My daughter (22 yr) now wants to start reading the series because she sees how much I love the series!
Rating: Summary: Eternal anticipation Review: Mrs. Hamiltons done it again. I thoroughly enjoyed this new book-especially all the new characters. I was not dissappointed. The story had all the action, intrigue, suspense and eroticism one has come to find in the Anita Blake vampire series. Where I think perhaps the story wasn't as strong as previous books I still couldn't put it down till I'd read the whole thing. I can't wait to see what happens in the future between Anita and her new found alliances. Definitely a must read!
Rating: Summary: Yeah Baby! Review: Laurell, you have done it again. Anita is finally coming into her own magic and she is definitely a horse of a different color. I was enthralled. Can't wait for the next installment.
Rating: Summary: A Great Escape Review: I must say I was a little hesitant about purchasing this book after reading some of the bad reviews of NIC however temptation overcame when I was the bookstore and I bought it anyway! I am truly glad I did. For 6 hours, I was transported into Anita's world and it was a welcome respite from happenings going on to the world today. Many of the complaints that I read is that the book had too much sex, I thought thought the sex/sensual scenes showed the growing up of Anita Blake, she was coming to terms with who she was and not who she thought she should be. The character development was great especially for Jason and Nathaniel, who have been my favorite 2 secondary characters. To Ms. Hamilton - I greatly enjoyed reading this book; thank you for this truly pleasurable bit of escapism!
Rating: Summary: A big let down Review: After reading Obsidian Butterfly I was expecting Narcissus in Chains to be just as good. It was a big let down since so many of the original elements are gone. Important characters are left in the shadows, including Richard and Jean-Claude. A new man is brought into the mix and Anita accepts him way to easily. The plot is there, but so watered down by sex that it's hard to find. The Anita everybody came to love is gone. The strong female character, one of the reasons I read the books, is gone. She's seems to have lost her edge. My recomendation, read the other books before. Killing Dance, Blue Moon, and Obsidian Butterfly are some of the best. Here's hoping that the next book is better and Micah is dropped completely.
Rating: Summary: WARNING: You might be unable to put this book down! Review: I thought that the story of Anita could go no further, boy was I wrong! I was unable to put the book down until I finished it and I still wanted more. I don't want to tell you what happens, but lets just say I am glad the leopards are around. Ms. Hamilton knows how to tell a really great story and keep it going. I can't wait until the next book! If you like this series you should also try her new one the first book is Kiss of Shadows. Its very different, but same great quality.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: First off, if you are a fan of Richard, I wouldn't bother with this book. For some reason, about half through the book, he isn't Richard any more, at least not the Richard we saw in Blue Moon. I really don't think he was treated very well by the woman who supposedly loves him and even though the first few chapters were wonderful, the more you read, the more contrived and unrealistic his character seems. Anita doesn't seem quite like herself either. JC seems fairly normal, but you see very little of him. If you read LKH for the suspense and horror and romance, don't bother. This is more about sex, pure and simple. And not just with her two boys, either. I'm very disappointed in it because I thought we were going to see the three main character resolve their problems, and I wanted to see more of Anita's necromancy. Instead, we see little of Richard, not too much of JC, and more of Anita's libido than anything else. the whole plot seems to be about her newfound sexual powers. If you read these simply for the sex, go ahead. If you are looking for a real story, I'd look elsewhere. Hopefully this book was just a fluke. If the next one is like this one, I won't be reading any more of the new books. My advice . . .wait for the paperback or buy it used. Not worth the full price.
