Rating: Summary: Great book Review: No Place Like Home is a wonderful story. I loved the dynamics of the families, especially the interactions of the sisters. The chemistry of Jewel and Malachi is wonderful. This book reminds me of Jennifer Cruise's Crazy for You and Tell Me Lies. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down. Review: No Place Like Home was a book about laughter, sorrow, tradition, passion, and getting through life. The author, Barbara Samuel, did a great job of pouring each emotion out of the book and into your heart as you read. There is never a dull moment in the book so it's easy to read from finish to end. Even though it is gloomy and dispairing at times, it still leaves you with hope that everything will pane out in the end. Each chapter begins with a cute recipe or short story that ties into what will take place in the chapter. No Place Like Home is written so well it makes you feel as though you are in the story and involved with all of the characters in it. There are moments of grief, but are filled with happiness. Samuel shows the importance of family in this book. No Place Like Home is a romantic and touching novel that stays with you even when you are done.

Rating: Summary: You Can Go Home Again Review: Now that I've read and thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful book, I find myself missing these characters - that's how real they are. It's a familiar story told with truth, wisdom, humor and insight. As a mother, and author of a book for mothers, NEW PSALMS FOR NEW MOMS: A KEEPSAKE JOURNAL, I especially appreciated the touching moments between Jewel and her son, Shane. My sons are also boy-men, and I know the tug at your heart that happens daily as you watch them preparing to take flight. This is a book I'll recommend to friends. Like Jewel's pies, it's a tasty treat!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down. Review: This book is the best book that I've read in a long time. And yes, like the previous review......bring your box of tissues. The book starts with Jewel moving back to her hometown after 20 years, and inheriting her Aunt's home. She comes back with her 16 year old son, and a friend who isn't healthy. And Barbara Samuel doesn't tell you everything right away.....so you have to keep reading and reading to find out more. Like, why did she leave Pueblo, Colorado? Why is her father not speaking to her? What happened all those years ago to make her leave? And how does her friend, Michael, fit into all of this? Jewel feels like she is the black sheep of the family. But only after coming home does she realize who she really is. I can't write anymore in this review without giving something away. And you just have to savor this book on your own. I hated to come to the end. Such a lovely, lovely book.
Rating: Summary: **Terrific** Review: This is a wonderfully moving, excellently crafted tale of family ties and the healing power of love. Written in the style of a personal journal, it takes us on a fascinating ride from beginning to end. Full of emotional highs and lows, this book is almost impossible to put down until the last page is turned. The talent of this author is astounding...She has also written several other books under the name 'Ruth Wind' and I recommend them all.
Rating: Summary: No Place Like Home Review: This is my first book by Barbara Samuels, but I do plan on reading more of her work. The book tells a heart warming tale about love, loss and family that touched my emotions on more than one level. The charactars were brought to life on the pages and the town of Pueblo, with all its traditions, a place you would want to plan to visit and stay awhile. I would highly recommend it!

Rating: Summary: A glowing novel Review: This is the first book I've read in longer than I can remember that made tears just stream down my cheeks. But mixed with the sadness was so much joy. Barbara Samuels writes about family, food, love, motherhood, and the joys and sorrows of balancing all the roles that come with being a woman with wit, tenderness, and shattering honesty. The genuineness of the writing and the universal truths that this book explores lift it far above your average "women's fiction" novel. I never once felt like my emotions were being manipulated. It's only March, but I'm already placing NO PLACE LIKE HOME at the top of my Favorite Books of the Year list.
Rating: Summary: Terrifically moving, beautifully written Review: This was my first Barbara Samuel book but it won't be my last. It is a jewel, one of those rare books that you read very slowly because you don't want it to end. The characters and plot broke my heart, but my tears were cleansing. If you have any unresolved issues with a parent, the book will hit you hard. I cried for most of the final 50 pages because the book is just so darned GOOD. The imagery, the way she crafted it, the richness of the characters, the way the story unwound - all of it took my breath away. I could taste the apple pie, see the golden light, smell the rain. Wow.Five stars plus! Well, what are you waiting for? Order it now. <g>
