Summary: THE NEW BIBLE OF SELF-ESTEEM
Review: "To understand how your self-esteem issues work and how to strengthen them is one of the most meaningful tasks in life. This book provides much, much more than Chicken Soup for the Soul. This book has soul itself.I predict it will become the bible of self-esteem books."

Summary: Excellent !!!
Review: After reading a plethora of books dealing with the issue of self-esteem, I have to say that this book is at the very top of my list. As a mental health counselor and as a person who has had to deal with my own self-esteem issue's, (Yes! counselor's have issue's too !) I have to say this is the very best book of its kind that I have read !!! Sorensens' book is written in easy to understand language and is very comprehensive in presenting situations and case history examples which illustrate the numerous ways in which low self-esteem ( LSE ) can manifest. In addition to explaining the development of LSE ( from childhood experience's ), the book ties in these past event's in order to present concrete evidence of the ways in which faulty perceptions and distorted thinking occur and are carried forward in day to day living experiences. The author writes with compassion and sensitivity, delivering her message with practical exercise's and with gentle wisdom. I would recommend this book to clients and to friends and to anyone who seeks to better understand what it means to live with and deal with low self-esteem issue's, as the definitive self help book on this subject.

Summary: Lifesaver
Review: After reading this book all I could really think was "wow..." at the level to which I could relate to the examples Sorensen used and the things she said. I would recommend this book to anyone with self-esteem issues, or anyone who knows someone with LSE because it really is helpful. This book is in depth and solid in its philosophies about the causes and cures of LSE.

Review: Amazing journey into the inner experience of people who struggle with challenges of self-doubt! Examples read more like a novel than a self help book; you won't want to wait to hear more about the featured heroine.

Summary: right on tartget with incarcerated population
Review: As an instructor of an incarcerated population, I see everyday how the underlying issue of most addictions and criminal thinking is one of low self-esteem. If people feel good and think good of themselves they value and respect themselves, the people and community that surround them. Most incarcerated people were never given any information that they are worthy of love or self respect which leads them down a road of destruction. I first read this book for myself when I noticed some areas that I felt I was lacking in self-esteem. In reading the book I noticed right away that there were many more areas I was unaware of and that my overall self-esteem was lower than I thought. As I read the book and began to see how mixed messages are very common amongst families and how they affected my self esteem, I noticed how some of my behaviors were shaped solely on how I pictured myself which I have since learned are not always correct. I then decided to see how this book would be received by my students as I could see that they too were struggling with some of the same issues. Many have become quite interested in wanting to know more information after they are released and are interested in continuing with the knowledge this book offers and possibly to seek counseling. Many inmates have shared with me the insights this book has brought to them and that self-esteem is the major issue they have in wanting to escape and bad decision making. There is supposed to be a workbook out soon which I will also be using as a supplement to the book itself and we are all anxiously awaiting its arrival. This book gets to the root of the problem, I only wish I had more time with my students to go into depth at the level needed before their releases. If anything I am able to plant a seed to help them further their inquiry.

Summary: EDUCATIONAL
Review: As you read this book you learn step by stey about LSE through interesting life stories. It's like a textbook, teaching everything you need to know and how to do it.

Summary: Easy read, makes you write your feelings!
Review: Aside from reading material, examples and scenarios, this book provides "things to do", an exercise that encourages one to answer and write down their feelings. You will have exercises to do! Write your thoughts, recall your memory, think, write, think and write down those feelings about yourself, your relationships, the past and the present.

The language is simple, the text is not crowded allowing you to locate sections easily; and, the chapters cover a wide variety of subjects such as: facing fear & anxiety, ending self-sabotage, controlling our inner voice, unconditional love, validation, and one important subject titled "Learning to be alone" which also defines alone versus loneliness.

This is a self-absorbed course for you. The book provides effective scenarios that allow you to understand and associate with the situation, examples, lists, questionaires, exercises and more. It is excellent tool for overcoming low self-esteem. It is a process. It is a journey. ...MzRizz

Summary: Best self-help book I have ever read!
Review: Dr. Sorensen's book, Breaking the Chain of Low Self-Esteem, is the one book that is starting to help me deal with LSE. Unlike other self-help books that just give pages of advice, Dr. Sorensen gives hundreds of scenarios that allow the person with LSE to see themselves, and then gives steps and activities on how to deal with it.

This isn't a "read this and you'll be all better" book. Dr. Sorensen emphasizes that it takes perserverance and sometimes a year or more of therapy to help overcome LSE.

This book is easy to read and understand. My copy is dog-eared, underlined, and is a book that I return to again and again as I try to deal with LSE and the problems it has brought to my life.

I highly recommend this book!

Summary: From A Therapist's and Client's Viewpoint
Review: I am a mental health counselor at a maximum security prison for women. I came across Dr. Sorenson's book through an inmate. The book had been passed around to many women and my client was eagerly devouring it.

She says: "Breaking the Chain of LSE has helped me in so many differnt ways. It has taught me how LSE was formed from a young age, that it is not easy to overcome unless you really want it and want to work hard for it. This book has shown me that it will take some time but it is possible. Now I know why I have hidden behind my weight problem for so many years, why I have relationships which only end in failure, why I continue to make the bad choices that I have made. This book has helped me in so many ways. If you want to overcome LSE, this is the book for you. I want to thank Dr. Sorenson for writing a book that helps so many people." Anonymous Inmate

Of course, I then read the book, too, with a critical eye and was so impressed with the ease with which it is written, non-intimidating, with compassion, inspiring hope and motivation for change. I now use the book and it's companion workbook with many of my clients. They love the concrete work and the insight it gives them. They always bring their homework back!

Thank you, Dr. Sorenson, for this wonderful book.

PS. I learned some things about myself, too!
