Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a MAGIC book (really, MAGIC)
Review: Nothing to say, this is simply one of the best book ever written, i'll never forgot the main charachter: Morgana..., it's part of me

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I had no idea this book was so well-loved.
Review: I'm a fan of Sherri S. Tepper and Tad Williams. Someone mentioned that "Mists of Avalon" would be the best of both worlds: a long, detailed story with an amazing scope and amazing characters, and a feminist theme to carry it along. Just so you know, I read it ignorant of all the hype. I was skeptical of the "3 Months on the New York Times Best Seller List!" sticker on the front. Round about chapter 18 I was joking with my husband that it stayed on the list that long only because that's how long it takes to READ the blasted thing. Needless to say, I wandered to a stop before I reached chapter 20. I never even made it halfway.

Writing: Dull, lifeless, unevocative, boring.

Characters: Unpredictable, poorly motivated.

Story: Nothing good to say. (I don't know the original Arthurian legend from a Beatrix Potter tale. Maybe that would have helped me.)

Feminist theme: Excellent in terms of spotlighting how the men treat the women and what men's expectations of women are. Poor for the trite depiction of the priestesses and the constant ridiculously over-dramatic references to the Goddess. (Elizabeth Hand plays a better song with "Waking the Moon" -- go try that one.)

Religious Theme: Christians = bad. Got it.

Despite the fact this book was a waste of my time, it obviously wasn't a waste of time for a thousand others. (Check out the reviews here. Can you believe it?) So I'll moderate my thumbs-down with an acknowledgement that this book has impressed and entertained many people, and that counts for something. (Right?)

Summary: a great book
Review: A great book.Utter perfection of showing the differences between the Old Ways and the new.Wonderful storyline.Five stars at the least.A must read for all fantasy lovers.Should be read by all,no matter what religion.A great escape.

Summary: Well written, but distasteful socio-religious agenda
Review: Marion Zimmer Bradley's novel of Arthurian Britain is undoubtably well-written, but is made one step above repugnant by the heavy-handed feminist, anti-christian story lines. The only men not condemned by Zimmer-Bradley are simpering druids who allow themselves to be dominated by the oh-so-wise priestesses of Avalon. And every Christian is portrayed as either a brutish, opressive lout (if male) or a submissive yet jealous shrew (if female). Arthur himself, far from being a heroic warrior king, is portrayed as a weakling torn between his Christian (in name only) wife, and his pagan sister. If you're looking for Arthurian historical fantasy that is not filled with ridiculous neo-modern tripe, go read Stephen Lawhead's excellent Pendragon cycle.

Summary: Better than 5 stars
Review: The BEST book!!! There's nothing more to say; I could never do it justice. This book is a part of me, and it always will be.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Read this book!! YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
Review: Excelent book, the best by this author. The book is SO good, you might never want to finish it. If a book could have a soul, this one would have an enlightened one. Don't miss the glorious experience of reading a really fine book. Buy this book now I tell you, it may be what your doctor wanted to prescribe agaist dullness.

Summary: Outstanding, finally a female perspective of a great legend!
Review: How can you write a review of a book that you can not put down and do it justice? I felt as if I were taking each step with the characters in this book. Never have I been so completely pulled into the life and adventures of a character as I was with Mists of Avalon! Hooray, finally a view of an acient legend from a female point-of-view. I have now read Lady of Avalon and The Forest House, both creative books in their own right. I wait (not so patiently)for the next book in the continuing sega of Avalon.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Spellbinding, got lost in it and I didn't want to return!
Review: I felt each character as if I were actually her and could see everybody's point of view as my own. This book covers the life span of many, but specifically one heroin. I was so immersed in the wonderful book that by the time I was done reading it, I felt as though I were as old as the main character, and that I'd lived a hundred years. Definitely a book for everyone to read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best book I've ever read.
Review: A great mixture of history and fantasy, with a taste of the old tales of King Arthur. (Actually worth 10 stars!)

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: most intriguing book i ever read.
Review: I am reading this book for the second time and i am still learning new stuff about the King Arther's time. My favorite character is Morgaine or Viviane. in an English class earlier, me and one of my classmates got into a large debate about how Arthur came to his throne and his relatives and i won. it would never have happened unless i had the help of this wonderful novel. Both my sister and mother have read the book. In fact, they were the ones to convince me to read it. once i started, i never stopped and i am writing a book report over this enchanting novel. I am planning to read more books about King Arthur's time and become lost in their time.
