Rating: Summary: A good IT book Review: I suppose it was pretty easy for Bill Gates to write a book on the information highway since he contributed so much time on the road construction. It was good that he reviewed the events in IT prior to the web explosion. I liked the CD enclosed with the book (it was a good marketing strategy) and really made the book come to life. I'm anxious to see what he will come up with next.
Rating: Summary: Very enjoyable reading! Review: Enjoyed reading this book. Good reading for anyone that is not familiar with the computer industry and where it is going. There was not a lot of technical jargon. The book also includes a brief history of computers which was interesting and informational as well as future technology. You need this background to see how the industry and Bill Gates thinks.
Rating: Summary: Very informative. Inspirational for people interested in IT. Review: I got this book two years ago and never picked it up until recently since I thought it was a very boring book. As it turned out, it was very informative, at least for someone who's considered average computer user like myself. I like the way he/the book explains the computer concepts: how it works and how it becomes. His future views of computer and information technology turned out to be true considering this book was written at least two years ago and as I read it in 1998. I think partly because he's in a position to make it happen with his Microsoft corporation and hugh resources. So to me it is like he might not really have a futuristic vision, but he just shapes the future the way he sees it and he has enough resources/facilities to make trials and errors until it comes true.
Rating: Summary: Hey, The man is not a visionary! Review: The beggining of the book, which talks about microcomputer industry history is really nice. But when he starts talking about how things will be, and how Microsoft is working to get there things gets very annoying. Many new concepts, that you just don't know if you have been locked in a cave for the past 5 years, are explained. And he surelly shows how our lifes will s*** wih this so called 'Information Superhighway' Bill just shows us what other people are researching. I feel like there are no ideas of him. But if you have the time, go on and read it.
Rating: Summary: The Dream of Bill Gates Review: I read the Spanish version of this book, i liked a lot, they shows us the future with the eyes of Bill Gates, the multi Millonaire man In the book, also, he shows he's new house, with the new technologies that house will have and all that stuff. He also shows us a little of the future of Pc's, and the starts too, in fact, it's shows a little of everything. Is a very good book.
Rating: Summary: It's bored but you'll learn something Review: If you are new to computer, this is not bad to read at; otherwise, it's not recommended to read. Probably because it was published a couple of years ago, it drives you feel bored as most of them ideas we have seen it today. This book is written too much of his personal surroundings. This is a book really out of my expectation.
Rating: Summary: it give me a lot of new idea Review: I got this book in Shanghai several monthes ago. I read some of it and just put it on my book shelf. At that time I have no idea about it. But I read the book recently. I found it is such a good one. I have used the internet to learn a lot. Thank you, who found the micro-soft.
Rating: Summary: As poor as the products he gives us.... Review: OK, where does he mentions network centric computing? Where does he talk about open standards? Bill Gates ego gets bigger as his wallet asfools rush out to buy his products without getting to know other products. If you want to read more about the future of computing, read about Java's WORA promise (don't know what WORA is, that's your signal to read more) and how Netscape turned the Internet into a household word. Gates theories are outdated and only reflect his desire to get into every business; and control it....
Rating: Summary: Terrible!!! Review: Good ol' Billy Gates said nothing new is his book.
The book was like a long advertisement giving reasons why you and I should continue to buy Microsoft's updated & unfinished products.
The book itself sounded unfinished and now I am waiting for version 1 beta 2!
Rating: Summary: A Good Look at the Future Review: Gates' vision is ambitious to say the least. At the same time, he acknowledges that his vision is his ideal, and that he has been wrong before. I thought the book was a good read. It gave a succinct history of computing and Microsoft's early role in software development. I did not think that he was overindulgent (except when talking about his new house). Gates' company has shaped the way PC computing has evolved, and reading from this man's mind gives readers an insight into why
