Rating: Summary: It's quite interesting story about the future ahead of us. Review: I read it a few months ago. Then I was a total stranger around the world of Computer. How it has been developed and what it is like -competition among computer companies- I came to know. I think it can give you a vision about the future world espicially for young people. I also recommend young people to read "the third wave-written by Albin tofler" altogether.
Rating: Summary: This is not a biography. Review: As Bill Gates mentions in the foreword, readers looking for an autobiography on him in the book will be disappointed. Road Ahead is very much primarily an easy-to-read IT textbook, except it doesn't deliver in a dry approach as textbooks do. The majority of the book deals with IT in general and is peppered with IT terms such as applications, enabling, reengineering, software, microprocessors, architecture, etc, in addition to dealing with critical issues and his own beliefs in the Information Age. Gates seemed to have written with an IT-illiterate audience in mind with the main objective of educating just such an audience, with only little insights into himself and his family.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book if you understand bussiness Review: This is the best book on the thoughts of Bill Gates with many great ideas. I am not a Gates lover but I think people don't think like him a lot of the time so they trash talk him. And they are Gates haters so thats why the book is not getting rated 5 stares right now. I gave it a 5. On of the best birgraphys I've read EVER!!
Rating: Summary: A Great vision of the past, present, and the future. Review: This book is the best book I have ever read. Bill gates tells the story of his success and goes on to tell us just how much this "Information Super Highway" can effect us. Hats off to Mr. Gates, not only a great person but a good author as well.
Rating: Summary: Vision of the Future for Dummies Review: Unfortunately, I was not in Gates' target audience for this book. It should have been called "Vision of the Future for Dummies".
As a twenty-something software engineer, I have to learn the lastest-n'greatest concepts in technology just to stay competitive. Given my background, I yawned at the constant explanations of the even most common technical terms.
Filtering through the explanations there is a promising vision in there. Oh yes, the book did explain a question that bugged me for years: "Why was Microsoft so slow in embracing the Internet?"
Rating: Summary: Bill Gates' Vision of Education is Incomplete Review: Bill Gates succinctly summarizes the history of computing, particularly his role in it. Based on his experiences and analysis of the past, Gates builds a vision of the future of technology. Many of his ideas parallel those of Nicholas Negroponte in "Being Digital." As a Doctoral student in Educational Technology at Pepperdine University, I was particularly interested in his view of the future of education. I was somewhat dismayed by his emphasis on what appears to be integrated learning systems in which students passively receive information from the computer and are tested on it by the computer. Although he discusses the importance of the interactivity of software and collaboration on the Internet, he does not emphasize the vision of technology as a tool to promote discovery and project learning with small groups of students. He sees technology as individualizing education. While Bill Gates, just by virtue of his status in the field of technology, is a voice to be reckoned with, I don't believe he presents a complete picture of the future of technology in education.
Rating: Summary: A in-depth book on how computers started & where they going Review: I would highly recommend this novel for anyone who is interested in learning how computers started and what and where they are heading.Several chapters outline what computers will be doing now and what they are going to do in the future, such as personal money card whereever you buy something it is taken out of your account, including small change. We will no longer need to carry change.
Rating: Summary: The road ahead? Heck, we're well on our way!!! Review: I picked this up in the bargin bin for about $3. I was curious to see if Ol' Bill Gates had a clue. Well, much to my surprise, it was kinda fun to read. Bill gives a nice historical intro that doesn't bore and categorically suggests how the internet and new technologies will affect our lives. Two years after publication, Bill has anticipated rather well. I enjoyed getting a glimpse of what one of the most influential men in the world (like it or not) seems to think we may be doing in the next 5-10 years.
Rating: Summary: A must have book for the next century. Review: Bill Gates has given us the knowledge need to take us in to the next century
Rating: Summary: Success may be precarious. Review: Some people like Bill Gates, others have a different opinion. It really doesn't matter. You need to read past the commercial and recognize how quickly success can turn to failure. Do you think the empire could never crumble? Think again. Bill knows.
