Summary: good, but something missing..
Review: this was a great book, i couldnt put the thing down. i loved the chaeracter developement, which is, in my opinion, the most important part. the only flaw i found with this book was that it didn't capture me as much as the dragonlance of old, if u know what i mean. it almost seemed that they, margret weis and tracy hickman, were trying to make their old characters, that i have grown very attached to, as miserable as humanly possible. *sigh* o well. it was an excelent book, and i found it very intresting, and annoyingly confusing at times. In this story the lines of good and evil are lost, so that the two blend together and eventualy over flow, so what u once saw as light as been cast into shadows, and that the dark is slowly coming out twards the sun. one min. u are possitive that a person is evil, and in the next u are having second thoughts. i wont say anymore, in hope that i haven't spoiled it for u already. i highly recomend this book to any dragonlance fan. enjoy.

Summary: Finaly, Dragonlance may be back!!
Review: I used to be a huge DL fan, and consider the Chronicles and Legends to be among the best books ever written.

However, I have stopped reading DL in the last few years because of the low (shamefull) quality of most of the new books.

But finaly, there is hope.

Dragons of a fallen sun *may* be the next "chronicles".
It stars out great, lots of new (and old) characters.
Among others we get the return of Caramon, Tika, Tashelhoff, Laurana, Alhana Starbreeze, Gilthanas, Goldmoon, and other favorites. The plot and story are great.

So why do I say maybe? Because almost all the questions and plots in this book remain unsolved and await for the next books in the series. Depending on how everything is eventualy resolved, this could be a great story, or a stupid story.

Conclusion: Read this book and the next one in one straigh reading, and hope for the best.

Summary: Inept Describes DoaFS Quite Nicely...
Review: When reading this review, keep two things in mind:
1) I could not make it past the second chapter
2) I had never read any Dragonlance, or anything by these authors before, and I do not think I ever will after this book

The quality of the writing was just inexcusable. How did this get past the editors? I honestly could not make it very far in this book because the writers could not write. It felt like wadding through thick mud. They messed up their head-hopping with added confusion and did not handle the perspective with grace. The history was just dumped on the reader with any finess or polishing, litterally raw. I might have sticked through if they were first time authors, for I like to give them a chance becuase writers for the first time tend to get better and improve their craft with practice. Boy, was I surprised to discover that they had written over a dozen books before this. This book reads worse than a first effort at writing, and I hate to think how bad their other books were. I just had to drop the book after that, knowing that there is much better out there, and I do not really want to waste my time with hundreds of pages of sloppy story craft.

Do not get me wrong, I could see the gems of a few good ideas in there, but good ideas are a dime a dozen. It is the writing that makes or breaks the story, for in the hands of a master, the worst plot can be one of the greatest works ever....

Summary: ummm...okay...i think
Review: This book wasn't what I expected.

Mina greatly annoyed me with her masquerade of joan of arc.I Greatly wanted the old chracters back. But they DIED on me!(Well,at least Raistlin keeps coming back to life)But this book greatly bored me.

First of all,The offspring of our heroes in the story excited me at first. But They were just...boring.

I missed Raistlins Snake-like presence, and the old Tanis(yeah, they ARE mentioned, but i just miss the old group).
I had to fight every impulse in my body to close this book and NEVER open it again.

No matter how many books are written on these new characters,i will NEVER get used to them.

Summary: Doubtful at first...
Review: I was very skeptical of a new DL novel... especially when I found out that Tasslehoff Burrfoot showed up!
However, I was very pleased with the beginning of this trilogy, and the advancement of the DL novel line.

A strange storm suddenly brews throughout the land, and in that storm is a mysterious voice... and an even more mysterious young woman named Mina. She walks out as a Knight of Neraka and quickly takes command over a group of the same knights, proclaiming that even though the Gods left there is one... the One God.
Clues are left throught this novel (and Vol. 2)as to who this One God may be... you just don't really realize it until about halfway through Vol.2
War is proclaimed among many races, by none other than Mina and the One God, and unknown to the Dragon Overloards they are in peril... from both the other overloards and the One God...
Saying much more will pretty much ruin the book so... trust in the fact that if you've read DL (or are a fan already) you'll enjoy this.

Summary: New era,new characters, hours of reading pleasure
Review: Well I know tha some of the old fans will terribly miss the old legendary heroes (aaah...where's Raistlin..*sigh*) but , life must go on ,even in Krynn I suppose.Anyway,to the point now: It is a very well written and thought of book .As always the writers manage to analyze the characters and the plot without boring us to death with useless details . Mina is a revelation of a character with some Raistlin-esque touches if I may say so.I am eager to read the 3rd book of the trilogy (I will review Dragons of a lost star right after this review. :-) )

Summary: Long Awaited
Review: The return of Weis and Hickman to the dragonlance world has been long over due. This book was a great buy and leaves you wanting more at the end. The only complaint is the all the patchwork, though Weis and Hickman do a good job at tying everyhting together, though it does make for a slow beginning. But by about 1/2 to 2/3 through it really takes off. Gerard is making out to be a great character and the reintroduction to gods has been long needed. Overall i truly enjoyed this book though it was slow at the beginning (hence the 4 stars instead of 5), and with great works behind them like the chronicles and legends series, the sequel promises to be good as well.

Summary: Even with old Heroes... it still gets the top ranking
Review: The only "downside" (if you think of it as one) is the fact that old Heroes are present. At least with some that are mentioned the fact that they are now old, acknowledge that they are old, gives some relief there.
The new war breaking out, along with the developements of that war make for a great story. The cause for the loss and weakening of magic through me for a loop completely... all I'll say is expect a few twists at the end. That in itself surprised me for so far in DL I haven't read to many with any sort of twist! What seems to be so cut and dry up through the middle of the book, has you guessing by the end.
Word of advise though... make sure you have a copy of Dragons of a Lost Star (vol 2) ready to go... I didn't and I regret it!

Summary: Threadbare Krynn rewoven by Weis and Hickman
Review: Finally, a breath of fresh air in a musty old room of the Dragonlance world! I am an avid fan of Krynn but the recent turn of events in the Fifth Age has made me quit reading the series. I mean no disrespect for the authors--old hands like Douglas Niles, Nancy Varian Berberick and Richard A. Knaak--it's tough to continue in the tradition of the creators and original authors of this wonderful, wonderful tale. Although I did feel that in this book, Weis and Hickman did get synoptic, it was necessary in order for them to restamp the true flavor into the series. It was like taking the threadbare plot of Fifth age and sewing over it to repair the damage done. True, one could probably tell where the rough spots in the cloth were but one could also feel the magnificence of the job they did, so much so that some spots even felt that they were brand new--Silvanesti, for example. Characters such as Gilthas and Silvanoshei seem like they are going come big in the next two books and I like the way Gerard is set up too. Mina is, of course, intriguing to say the least--especially the identity of this One God. I'm not sure if others saw this but Laurana may take another leading role in the events to come as might Goldmoon, although the poor Plainswomen has been used so much--and badly at that--that she is one of the areas in the tapestry that had to be reworked to feel like the real Goldmoon again. I also feel that somehow, the old heroes, with the exception of Laurana, are bound to call it a day, live or die. Their time is past and I think Weis and Hickman do a good job of setting the scene for their swansong. Once again, thank you, Margaret and Tracy, for reawakening the spirit of Krynn in me and instilling hope in me for the first time since the Fourth Age. If it were anyone else, I would give it four stars. But because the authors managed to single-handedly rescue the damage done to Ansalon all by themselves in a single 627 page novel, I commend their effort. For all you fans and newbies to Dragonlance out there, be sure you never miss a word written by these true greats.
