Summary: The best Easter book-and read it the rest of the year, too!
Review: I read this book when I was six and enjoyed it very much. But when I re-read it over 30 years later, I loved it with all my heart. This is a wonderful story about a mother bunny who never lets go of her dream. It's a wonderful story for showing the love between mother and child and for inspiring bunnies (and people!) to never give up. And to think that the author did this without being "preachy". I can't think of a better book to read to your children or give to your niece/nephew/grandchild for Easter. Or maybe just read for yourself.

Summary: The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes
Review: I was born and raised in Germany and not familiar with this book until last week when I overheard my husband reading it to our children. It was the day after mother's day. I was moved to tears. There was the book I should have given to all my (discouraged, frustrated) girl-friend mothers for mother's day! Mrs. Cottontail had the wisdom to raise her bunnies in a way that she did not have to give up her greatest dream. In addition, her children were raised to be self-sufficient, responsible and happy bunnies. What more can we ask? Hurray for Mrs. Cottontail! This is one of the best parenting skills book I have read in a long time...and your kids are going to benefit from reading it, too.

Summary: Through a Six-Year-Old's Mind
Review: I was born in 1940. This book was read to me once in first grade. I remembered not only the story, but the beautiful illustrations. Twenty years later I called my first grade teacher to ask for the book title so I could read it to my children. "The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes," she had remembered. As I read this to my children, I saw my life had been influenced by this wonderful story. Dubose Heyward wrote one book in 1939. He wrote to tell young females that they can grow up to follow their dreams and have a family. That they can get past social expectations, and past the people who aren't cheering them on, and that we all have a special destiny if we trust ourselves enough to persist against the odds which then sets the example for our children to do the same.

Summary: The Country Bunny and The little Golden Shoes
Review: In 2004, I am 45 years old, but this book has been a part of my whole life. I was first exposed to it by my mom , and it is part of my earliest childhood easter memories. When I had children, it became part of their earliest memories. They love the story, the pictures, the whole package--it is incredibly readable and captures the attention of even my teenager. They both have their own copies, which they have assured me, will go with them when they leave and so I must order one for myself, since my brother got the one from OUR childhood!!! Make memories!! have a wonderful time.

Summary: Not your Typical Easter Bunny
Review: Like many other reviewers, I was first introduced to this book in my childhood and have always treasured it since that time. On the surface this is a wonderful story about the young country bunny pursuing her dream of becoming an Easter Bunny and succeeding. Children will identify with the legend of the Easter Bunny and the eggs they bring to children around the world. Like Rudolph the reindeer in Christmas stories, the country bunny takes her place in the ranks of illustrious legend. Despite the mockery of those deemed "better" than her by rabbit society, (rich, powerful male rabbits) she perserveres. It is also a story that I could reccomend for Mother's Day, as this is the tale of a mother and her children and how they teach each other. While the text and style of art is somewhat dated, I think this is one legend that touches the heart and will last. The pictures are simple illustrations that feel similar to the artwork of Peter Rabbit, but nevertheless communicate the story effectively. And may every mother have her own pair of "golden shoes". ^_^

Summary: My all time favorite children's book!
Review: My brothers and I fell in love with this book some 30 years ago when my mother first read it to us. It's a wonderful story of a plain country bunny who has always dreamed of becomming one of the prestigious Easter Bunnies. There are actually seven, not just one. It is written with the imagination and wonder of a child and also tells an inspiring story of what can be attained if one is willing to work for it. A true gift!

Summary: Childhood Memories
Review: My great Grandmother bought this book for my brother and I when I was born, and my mother read it to us on Easter Eave every year with out fail. I can recall the story word for word, and now read it to my youngest brother as well. Traditions are a great thing to have in a family, and with tradition, comes fond memories. It has been a while since I have celebrated Easter with the innocence of a child like mind, but every year I recall the story of the Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes and wish I could be 7 years old again. This is a story of dedication, and devotion, two things that children need to learn early on in life. I am glad to have such fond childhood memories, and will cherish them always. I plan to continue the tradition of reading this book to my chilldren on Easter Eave, and hope that my children will continue to do the same.

Summary: I loved this book!
Review: My mother read this book to me when I was very young, about 3-4 yrs. old. I didn't remember the name of the book but I remembered when the bunny gave the special Easter egg to the sick little boy. I remembered the beautiful pictures. Then when I taught pre-school I made a secne at a book fair when I screeched & got excited about seeing that book again. Needless to say I bought it and shared it with my mother who smiled at seeing it again after so many years. I have my own now & can't read it aloud to my kids at school cause tears course down my face. Such a beautiful story about perservance and the power of a dream.

Summary: Social Commentary in the Country Bunny
Review: The gender roles in this book are outdated, but only to point out how wrong they are. In the end, it's the brown, country, female bunny that triumphs, not the white, rich, male bunnies. DuBose Heyward wrote a tale that has survived these sixty years and is still timely today. Racism, Classism, Sexism...it's all addressed here. Besides all that it's a sweet, fun book to read.

Summary: A moving story with fabulous illustrations. A classic.
Review: The illusrations in this book are riviting. I've been gazing at them since I was old enough to know what I was looking at. The story is full of hope, positive values and is very entertaining for children. I will never forget this book, and I'll enjoy it as long as I live.

This is the REAL Easter Bunny story.
