Rating: Summary: Dr.Seuss's ABC Review: This book is great for begining readers. It doesn't have a storyline but it's about the alphabet and how it can be used. It is the perfect book for new readers to get them introduced to the alphabet.
Rating: Summary: My kids' favorite! Review: This book taught both my children their ABC's before they were 18 months old. We have 2 copies and both have been read to rags! I would recommend this to any parent with young children. It's the greatest!
Rating: Summary: Bright, fun, rhyming. Review: This is another Dr. Seuss classic. The illustrations are bright and whimsical. Children love the rhyming of Dr. Seuss books. This is another fun book for younger children.
Rating: Summary: Another winner... Review: This is yet another staple at our summer reading program for primary age (kindergarten to gr. 3 or 4) students. It's not one we do with the whole group - a tutor will read it with particular children who have trouble with basic letter sounds and recognition. It's been extremely helpful to our students. It's easy to read and it has all Seuss's regular features, good rhymes, illustrations, and alot of charm. I'd give it 5 stars, but some of the drawings and humor don't quite live up to legendary books like Green Eggs and Ham. Also, I was disappointed that as the book went on, Seuss didn't give kids a chance to think of a word that started with the letter -- he'd have the letter and some words that begin with that letter all on the same page. From a teaching perspective, the other way would've been more useful.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book Review: This was my favorite book as a child and still is one of my most favorite books. My folks memorized the complete text because I had them read it to me everyday. I learned to read from Dr. Seuss and his ABCs. The board book and the CD-rom are also very worthwhile. I haven't seen/heard the cassette yet. My son is 4 months old now and I'm already reading the ABCs and other Dr. Seuss books to him. The rhythmn to the words really calms him down. Wonderful buys.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Seuss' ABC Review: We are an international family, meaning that my wife is Japanese, I'm am American, and our daughter is both. We live in Japan, and hence the language our daughter hears the majority of the time is Japanese, which had me worried about her future English ability. This book as done much a lay those fears to rest. The pictures are fun, the sound or word patterns are nice to repeat, and easy to remember, which makes this a wonderful book for a 2 year old. On top of the fun aspect, she was able to recognize many of the letters after reading the book with me only a couple of times. This is a fun way to teach small children the alphabet and letter sounds, although the reader (me) did have to practice several of the pages before a smooth reading was possible, this entertained my daughter to no end!
Rating: Summary: A demanded book in this household! Review: We checked out the book and tape at the library. A week later, I had the whole thing memorized. When we got our own copy of the book, we unfortunately did not get the cassette. Oh, well. Like I said, I had it memorized.
The boys simply demand it. My older one, almost three, tells me, "you sing song," and I know what he means. The other day I sang the song and watched him turn the pages and stay on the right pages. The cassette features several different singers using different styles of music to sing out the words of the fabulously popular book. Sometimes there are sound effects, but usually not.
It's a great way to reinforce the alphabet song. Several letters are introduced by singing the alphabet song up to that letter and then some of the other songs seem to have the alphabet tune to them.
The book has great graphics. Of course it does, it's Seuss. But there again, these are great illustrations and are a great way to teach the alphabet and a tiny bit of phonics. Phonics or whole word is not the focus, here. Rather, having fun with the alphabet, loving reading, and playing with words is what's going on here.
It's a great set. Try to get the cassette version, if that's what you like. We loved it!
Rating: Summary: My two year old loves this Review: We have the book and the VHS. It has greatly aided us in teaching the alphabet to our son. It has what I have come to expect from a Seuss beginner book - fun to read and teaching my child the basics.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME Book! Review: Welcome to the wonderful world of whimsical, wacky writing, and crazy, colorful caricatures - "Big Q, little q what begins with Q? The quick Queen of Quincy and her quacking quacker-oo." An excellent educational tool, "Dr. Seuss's ABC" is an inspired introduction to the alphabet, both upper and lowercase letters, and also reinforces letter sounds through alliteration. The rhythm is so musical, it's addictive, rendering it GREAT fun to read aloud. I own the "adapted" board book edition as well, which is designed to appeal to newborns, and very young children with short attention spans who are not attentive enough for the full text versions. The text, format, and images have been adapted to accommodate board book standards; yet, the phrasing and prose still flow. That being said, the original is just that - ORIGINAL. It is more amusing, entertaining, and educational, but is appropriate for older children, 4 years and older. If your child is three or older purchase an original version, otherwise think of introducing your infant to the shorter, travel-anywhere format, and procure the original at a later date? The marvelous, magical magician, who was Dr. Seuss, is worth it! Four-years and up.
