Rating: Summary: Carol Starkey-bring on more of her Review: I could not put down this book. I really liked the Carol Starkey character. You could feel her pain and understand how she could get so low as she has. While I have read most of the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike stories, I think that Crais most two recent novels are his best. He's only getting better. The only minor thing I didn't buy into was how quickly the relationship between Pell and Starkey escalated. They are immediate protagonists and then bam they're in love. I didn't see where the relationship built up to get to being in love.
Rating: Summary: very good Review: A very damaged ex bomb squad woman named Starkey (didn't like the name) investigates the bombing of a peer. It turns into a nation wide hunt for a serial bomber, Mr. Red, who does it for money and fun. Starkey smokes and drinks like a fish throughout the story but still catches the bad guy. A little romance and a lot of suspense. Very Enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Made to be a movie Review: If you're looking for a nice light read that's well-written, this is just the book for you. Just don't expect to be dazzled. It should be no surprise at all that this book is being made into a movie.I will repeat what some other reviewers here have said about the characters. They're not very likable. You go through the entire book, and don't really care much whether the main character lives or dies. If you're new to Robert Crais, I'd strongly suggest that you wait to read this book until you've finished the Elvis Cole series. Go check out 'The Monkey's Raincoat'.
Rating: Summary: Read in one day Review: This is the first book of Crais's I have ever read but it won't be my last. At first I didn't like Carol Stacey but the more I found out about her the more I liked her. The story grabbed me from the first chapter and kept me interested till the end. Character developement was good. Plot twists reminded me of one of my favorite authors Jeffrey Deaver, just not as many, but enough to keep you guessing. Hated to put the book down which I had to do several times the day I read it, but I knew when I read the first chapter that I would not go to sleep till I finished the book.
Rating: Summary: One Superb Read! Review: Just yesterday I read Demolition Angel - in one sitting! I couldn't put it down. I found it totally absorbing and one of the best books I have ever read. The characters were well defined and completely believable. Having never read anything by Robert Crais before, I had no expectations whatsoever. Boy, was I ever totally absorbed! The plot line was tremendous and just when I thought I had the ultimate outcome totally figured out - surprise! - a new twist or turn. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and HIGHLY recommend it. I can't wait for the movie to come out. To me, this ranks right up there to challenge Silence of the Lambs.
Rating: Summary: Elvis has definitely left the building. Review: The author's departure from Elvis Cole is radical, and while he may have enjoyed this trip down the dark side, I did not. The book is extremely well-written, suspenseful and very well-crafted, however, his lead character, Carol Starkey, has so many flaws, I found it nearly impossible to care about her. She is hostile, an alcoholic, and a chain-smoking liar, albeit one who is good at her job. Frankly, her nemesis, the evil "Mr. Red", was in some ways much more appealing than Starkey. If you expect to care about this character the way you do about Elvis, you may be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Grows on You Review: The heroine is sufficiently unique to grab you from the beginning. Character development takes a while, but once everyone is in place the interaction is very well done. I am looking foward to the movie that is scheduled to be made from this book.
Rating: Summary: A roller-coaster ride Review: Robert Crais proves once again he can tell a fantastic story. His less-than perfect heroine is a true-to-life person. She will join the ranks of Harry Bosch as the recalcitrant hero trying to make the world a better place. Give the story a little time to build and you will love the roller-coaster ride to the end.
Rating: Summary: Could not put it down. Review: Not being able to put down a Robert Crais novel is becoming a habit with me. This is a most intriguing "stand alone" from man who has given us the wonderful PI, Elvis Cole. This break in the Elvis Cole action is certain to bring us a refreshed Elvis. Meanwhile "Demolition Angel" grabbed me from page one and did not let go. It was difficult to work up a liking for the protagonist (Carol Starky) at first, but she seemed to become less abrasive (without losing her edginess) as the book moved along. By the end I was cheering her every inch of the way. Surrounded by her own demons, a rogue ATF agent, a skeptical boss, a cop gone bad, a serial bomber and assorted other allies and enemies, Mr. Crais has given the reader a wonderful supporting cast. Intricate plot twists, a believable chain of events and a satisfying resolution all combine to make a most enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: A Dynamite Thriller! Review: I miss Elvis but, hey, this Carol Starkey is great! Crais writes Carol Starkey so well you will feel her pain, physical and emotional. She hurts so much it breaks your heart. I like this ATF agent Pell also. As a longtime Angeleno I really enjoy his relistic settings. The race to find "Mr. Red" and the reality of the bomb squad will keep you up all night - first by reading, then by dreaming! A great thriller.
