Rating: Summary: Thought provoking story of a man's spiritual/life journey Review: I enjoyed this book for it's exploration of one man's spiritual journey. This journey demonstrates how integral spirituality is in our lives, we just need to open our senses to this dimension. It's about knowing who you are but not placing your ego above a greater consiousness. I also enjoyed the glimpse it gives of spirituality in the Indian subcontinent. A great read and quick, so you can re-read it easily to get all the nuances.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Story Review: This book is so wonderfully written that it takes you in and opens your eyes without you trying to comprehend it's message. It is truly inspirational. If people found the Alchemist insightful, please try a reading a real book and read Siddhartha.
Rating: Summary: I felt that it was a very soul moving piece of literature Review: It showed how much Siddhartha wanted to attain all of the inner peace of Buddah. It was a book that moved me to want to become a better person. The ending is a surprise that should have been known all along.
Rating: Summary: A fascinating look at one mans journey to enlightenment Review: I recieved Siddhartha as a graduation gift. It was one of the best gifts I have ever recieved. I greatly enjoyed the book because Siddhartha is in all of us. We all go through life searching for something, whether physical or in Siddhartha's case more spiritual. It was also very easy to read and understand. One doesn't have to dig deep to find the greater meaning, that's what Siddhartha is doing through out the book. Overall I put it right on the top of my must read list, right next to Dante's Inferno. I would suggest it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: This is THE life changing and affirming book. Review: This is a book for all seekers. I myself am Siddartha searching for my own river. This book does not tell you what to do how how to see things. It allows us to find our own way and encourges us by showing that we can rise up even when we have forgotten our seeking. My friends who are into finding their own ways also find themselves in this book.
Rating: Summary: Forced to read it, and glad. Review: I read this book in my Humanities class, and was very pleased. It is a nice change of pace from the Dickens novels usually assigned in class (though these also weren't that bad). I would strongly recomend this novel to anyone, unless you're unwilling to read a book that has views different from your own. It makes you think, which is at least what I look for in a book. Being picked as one of the titles for the 98-99 ACADEMIC DECATHLON shows that that organization knows what they are doing. So read it, and enjoy
Rating: Summary: a book that is truly free of all faiths Review: the last thing this book is about, i find, is buddhism. buddhism, zen, indian culture, what have you, are all completely besides the point here. it could have been about an apache in america, a rebellious christian monk in italy, or a lost zulu in africa. it is about the need to search for truth without any preconceived notions. the most important part, i felt, was siddhartha's refusal to follow the buddha and find his own way. here was someone who had completed the journey he was making, and he still needed to know on his own, which, as the book concludes, is the key to all truth. his greatest successes are not in meditation and spiritual pursuits, but in living life and learning from it.quite a lesson
Rating: Summary: Excellent, but not nearly his best Review: Siddhartha is well written, enjoyable, and rather easy to understand. It provides a basic outline of Hesse's style, an "introduction" of sorts, to his other, more elaborate, more intelligent, more oxymoronic, yet perfect. I suggest, especially if you enjoyed the book, reading his other books (especially Steppenwolf and The Glass Bead Game).
Rating: Summary: Full-Circle Review: In terms of writing talent, Hesse is other-worldly. Magnificently written, Siddhartha is a must-read for members of the Human race.
Rating: Summary: You'll either LOVE it or HATE it. Review: Siddhartha was given to me as a gift by a friend who was then in seminary. I was 18 and on my way to college. Over the summer I read it three times! It was the first fictional book to affect my life in such a deep, meaningful way. I'm not sure if it was because Siddhartha & I had in common that we were both leaving home, or just because I've always been interested in spiritual journeys (& discoveries). Probably the thing I LOVE most about the book is that it shows the reader that there is not just one path to PEACE and ENLIGHTENMENT. Since then, I've re-read at least half a dozen more times. Usually it is at a time when I'm feeling either unsure or alone. I am sure it will continue to be one of my "all-time-favorites".
