Summary: 75% ROMANCE--25% SUSPENSE...
Review: Sarah Walsh was traumatized as a six-year-old when she and her twin sister were abducted for millions in ransom. The adult Sarah has become a secluded novelist, a woman kept under constant FBI surveilance--a woman lacking a normal life. And the terror haunts her yet due to her inability to recall her captor's face, a man so menacing he taunts her and the authorities with their inability to identify or find him. Sarah comes to a crossroad in her fear-driven world when she meets Adam Black, a high-profile sports star and former NFL quarterback. Their mutual attraction poses a substantial danger to Sarah's quiet life of concealment and privacy. His glamorous image and popularity threaten Sarah's safety. She cannot risk public exposure because the stalker might discover her new identity and find her again.

The premise of this plot offers a great deal of conflict between Sarah and Adam, and that's very gratifying when it applies to the budding romance. Henderson has a real talent for evoking the angst which beset real people with very real problems. The characters are richly drawn, sympathetic and genuinely caring. Any reader would find Sarah, Adam and Dave (Sarah's bodyguard brother) likeable and upstanding individuals who are caught in Sarah's nightmare existance.

The progression of the romance fares better than the mystery, however. While I found this to be a wonderful romance with good pacing (until the middle of the book, that is--I felt myself growing frustrated midway)--it almost seemed as if the threat was nonexistent, the villain of the story forgotten. The suspense was manifested through Sarah's mental and emotional anguish, and through Dave's protective behaviors. Although this is an Inspirational Romance and as such, probably a bit "tame" by comparison with other suspense novels, I was very disappointed that the author failed to punch-up the suspense. The stalker should've appeared throughout the story and made his presence felt. To not have done so, made this novel a very good romantic suspense rather than an excellent one.

Summary: Hooked on Henderson
Review: Danger in the Shadows was a perfect combination of romance, thrill and inspiration. I half expect to run into one of the characters on the street. This was my first Dee Henderson book and I can not wait for the next!

Summary: A perfect suspense romance--beautifully written
Review: DANGER IN THE SHADOWS is a wonderful book. Dee Henderson has shown a strength in plotting and writing that had me glued to my seat for hours to finish the book.

Sara walsh was abducted when she was a young child, and after 9 days of captivity in a dark basement she is found. The man who kidnapped her never is, but he is still terrorizing her. She is a protected woman, living with FBI protection and moving constantly to keep a step ahead of the insane man who wants to control her.

Her life is a terror, always watching over her shoulder, always being watched and never getting close to anyone. Adam Black is a sports hero, high profile, now retired. He meets Sara and wants her, unaware of her need for privacy and security. As much as she pushes him away, he is drawn to her and her situation, but struggles to understand what she went through and how it's affecting her as an adult.

Adam and Sara are meant to be together but the roadblocks in the way of a relationship working are enormous. There is a man walking free who has put Sara through the most unimaginable nightmare and it's time she took her life back. They both have their faith, and knowing that God was watching over them gave them the strength to face the terror.

I loved this book. The terror was so subtly drawn, so carefully laid out that it pulled me in slowly and before I knew it I was jumping at shadows and suspicious of every noise. The romance between Adam and Sara had to be so strongly written to keep afloat with the suspense but Dee has done it very well.

I'm off to find Dee Henderson's other books now. Can't get too much of a good thing.

Summary: A Great Read
Review: Make sure to read this book on a day you aren't busy, because you won't be able to put it down once you start it, I know I couldn't. The main character is a woman named Sara Walsh who lives in fear of being found by the man who kidnapped her when she was a young child. She meets and falls in love with former pro-football star Adam Black. But there are a lot of problems for the two to solve before they can live "happily ever after." The book is fast paced and draws you in very quickly. The story is suspenseful and stays that way until the very end. It will keep you turning pages until there aren't anymore to turn! The two main characters are charming and have flaws all of us can identify with. But my favorite character in the book is Sara's brother Dave, who has become her protector and who is the one person Sarah has been able to depend on. (He reminds me of my brother.) I can't wait to read his story in The Negotiator!

Summary: Intriguing, Exciting Book
Review: I read lots of novels -- sometimes 5 in a week and I know what I like. "Danger in the Shadows" has got to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. This book kept me interested, and turning the pages as fast as I could, from start to finish. I loan my books to my daughters-in-law and both of them loved it too, so it definitely is a book for several different generations. I read "The Negotiator" first and if I had it to do over again, I would read "Danger" and then "The Negotiator" since it has some of the same characters at a later time in their life.

Summary: Don't fear the Inspitational format
Review: As this is my first inspritational romance I have come to learn that Ms Henderson is sure to become the benchmark for all other authors to emulate. This offering is one of those books you can't put down and lingers with the reader well after the last page leaving a uplifting warmth absent in other romances . In the past inspirationals equalled a story rift with Christian messages, as if one could pack a romance around a sermon. However, this offering from Ms Henderson is what classic romance is all about: wonderful characters discovering a special love as a sinister element intent on destroying it looms ahead. They rely on their own personal strength with God and each other to pull them thru. There are no preachy messages here but a perfect example of a love of each other and their relationship with their maker. Dee Henderson is an author to watch as each of her next books are as special as this one, each with a romance which reveals not only love for each other but their God as well. BRAVA ! The best of romance in any subgenre!

Summary: Kinda Slow...
Review: The book seemed very intriguing and interesting to me so I bought it but I found out that it was very slow and needed somewhat of a better plot. The romance between the two characters didn't seem as real as you think it could be.

Summary: A dream come true
Review: This book was awesome. Having lived in a similar situation, and having bodyguards around me every once in a while, I could totally relate to the story, and her dilema of falling in love. I loved this book - I certainly have a dream that I can find someone like him - understanding, caring, and concerned.

Summary: Suspense at its finest
Review: Sara Walsh is living her present with an all too real threat from the past. As the daughter of an ambassador, she was at risk. The memory of the abduction of her and her twin sister lives on in her mind and the the threat of the kidnapper who still stalks her has made her a prisoner in her own life.

When a twist of fate lands her in an elevator with Adam Black, ex footbal star, things change. Adam is instantly aware of the connection they share and with the help of their faith, he is detemrined to have a life with Sara.

The couple are faced with more than their share of obstacles, but the they share two common bonds; love and their faith in God.

Though this is an inspirational book, it will appeal to all readers who enjoy a true romantic suspense. The characters are so vivid you should be able to reach out and touch them.

Dee Henderson has a writing style that carried her story so smoothly you won't know it isn't happening to you. I am awed by her ability to write a story so emotionally charged and yet gently inspiring. I recommend Dee Henderson as a a writer everyone will enjoy for as long as always. Danger in the Shadows is a remarkable book. Truly remarkable.
