Rating: Summary: An amusing look at the american presidential race Review: This book is 100% political satire. Some may find it offensive, I found it very amusing and entertaining. Franken pokes fun at everything from drug use to homosexual support of a presidential candidate. His unique biting humor is just what the George W. Bush and Al Gore need to read to realize how silly some of the things they say and do are.
Rating: Summary: The truth about our 43rd President Review: This book (or CD) details the tribulations for our most recent president - Al Franken. From the conception of his campaign to its end, the essence of the Franken presidency is captured for all to see in _Why Not Me_, by former President Al Franken. When complaining about politics, people often say, "Don't look at me, I didn't vote for him." Well, I DIDN'T vote for him, and after reading this compilation of his speeches, diary, and media coverage, I'm sure glad I didn't. Here is why: 1) The ATM fees. Pres. Franken's most controversial issue. Sure, I lose 10%-15% of my income to the Bank fees, but that is the price you pay for living in a free society. Franken consistently distorted the purpose of these fees in his speeches and literature, all reproduced here. Banks don't charge the fees to make money; they charge the fees so the Freemasons can continue their subversive rule of the country. 2) Sex and Drugs. After the debauchery of the Clinton administration, it was refreshing to see a president who was candid about his sexuality and his (frequent) drug use. The problem? Franken and his inner circle were very bigoted in the types of prostitutes they choose to associate with. How can a man who is supposed to represent all of America only consort with women of a particular race/creed/national origin? What about the equality of men? Truly a disgrace. 3) Violence. Yes, there were some "Very Illegal" crimes, including some involving blunt objects. My question: can't the man who has his finger on the button figure out a way to hide his tracks better? Is this the type of person we should have had been running the country? If you really want to know about President Franken, you should read (or listen to) this historic work. It allows insight into the short, but uneventful, presidency that we are still recovering from.
Rating: Summary: Here's Why Not: Review: I don't know how Al Franken (whose work I usually love) stayed awake to write this. "Tedious" is the most polite word I can use to describe the diary-of-a-candidate format he's chosen this time. Typical Franken hilarity in spots...but good luck keeping your eyes open long enough to find them.
Rating: Summary: Ha ha ha. Brings a tear to your eye... Review: Campaign diaries with quotes like, "Got off on wrong foot...Still can't shake feeling that I have let everyone down. Splurged on hooker." It's just such fine quality humor! Read this book and then read the current news blurbs from the candidates on the Presidency trail; that's what makes it such good satire. Good grief this was funny.
Rating: Summary: funny, but not up to par Review: i read this book because i loved *rush limbaugh is a big fat idiot...* this book was funny, but not nearly to the same degree, or in the same way. to me, the rush limbaugh book demonstrated a sense of purpose beyond simply making fun of everything in sight. franken seemed to have some motivation for writing, and i felt that sense of prupose to be lacking in this book, to its detriment.
Rating: Summary: Dead-on Satire Review: This book was a dead-on satire of politics and politicians. People without a sense of humor need not apply. Those who think Franken was "making fun of" CFS are missing the point. Franken OBVIOUSLY was lampooning the politicians who kiss the babies, tear up at the bedsides of the ill, etc., all for the sake of a photo op. If you are going to take the CFS content seriously, then you have to take everything else in the book at face value. Lighten up or limit your future purchases to the non-fiction section in the future.
Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud funny Review: I didn't think that Franken could top his last one, but he did. The Campaign Diary had me rolling, and the Bob Woodward "book" was also hilarious. One of the best political satires I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: Easily the most amusing book in print Review: This could be the funniest, most entertaining book I have ever read. It was so good that I often found myself laughing out loud. Not for the faint of heart, there is quite a bit of risque humor. If you happen to possess a somewhat sick and twisted sense of humor, then this is the book for you. I am still amazed at the depths of Al Franken's mind. Disturbing and simultaneously hilarious.
Rating: Summary: Amazingly funny! Review: This was one of the funniest books I have ever read. In it comidian Al Franken wins the democratic nomination and becomes US President running only on one issue, ATM fee's. The book start's off with Franken's autobiography, "Daring to lead". That is followed by Franken's diary of his campaign. I thought that the diaries start off fairly boring but slowly get more interesting and funny as they progress. The many attack ads against Gore are very entertaining. I didn't get some of the US political inside jokes, and it didn't measure up to Franken's other book, "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot" but I certainly enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Al Franken does it again! Review: Once again, the brilliance that is Al Franken has created a book even more hilarious and entertaining than his last. This time, Franken gives us a fictional, yet totally politically savy account of the "Franken presidency." I highly reccomend this book.
