Rating: Summary: The great story of a not-so-great man Review: This audiobook rocks. Franken's delivery and writing are a joy to which to listen. While I don't agree with Franken's politics, I take my hat off to his even handed attack on both parties and politics in general. This is the best work of audiobook political humor since Parliament of Whores by P. J. O'Rourke.
Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud funny. Review: "Profiles in Courage" meets "The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight".Very, very funny. Candidate Franken has no idea where the financing for his campaign is coming from; he only knows he has to give a speech on Insurance Deregulation to a Boy Scout troop. He does grow as a candidate, though. For instance he realizes, after a speech at the Knights of Columbus, that the Kennedy assassination is still a touchy subject with Catholics... Although in retrospect, the campaign donation/phone sex line may have been a bad idea. Dry, silly, clever, and very funny.
Rating: Summary: First book I ever read completely through Review: I'm a seventeen your old (sixteen when I bought the book), who is interested in politics. I heard of Franken's book on CNN, so I thought he's a funny guy, so I bought it. It was the funniest thing I ever read. It's the first book (and, so far, the only book) I ever read completely through. I don't know much about books, but I do know politics, and I know what's funny. This book is really hilarious. Just open any random page on it, and you will laugh till you wet your shorts. One thing I didn't like was how the first parts was a biographical thing about Franken. I didn't really think it was relevant. But Franken pulls it off hilariously well. If you're thinking about buying it, it got lots of good reviews and turned up on the New York Times Bestseller list. Franken has been called a comic genius, and this books proves it.
Rating: Summary: Funny Stuff, Review: Al Franken has once again come up with a screamingly funny book; a great concept that is well executed. Although I prefer his previous ruminations on the girth of Rush Limbaugh, there are many, many amusing moments here. I personally loved the story of his college "business" and the incredibly ill-advised Inauguration Speech is a howler. This is no masterpiece, but it is a good, fun, silly read.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite President Review: Although he wasn't popular while in office, I think the nation is beginning to look back on his service to our country with a twinge of gratefulness and fondness.
Rating: Summary: I'd vote for Franken Review: A great satire--Franken is an astute observer of politics in America. The journey he takes the reader on is a joyous romp that lampoons everyone that needs it! In lieu of what occurred this last election cycle, I hope Franken really runs in 2004!
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest books I've ever read Review: This book is hilarious. The bulk of it, the campaign diaries, are extremely funny, while the other parts are excellent also. This book portrays the media and politics in a way that will keep you laughing all the way through. The best part was the transcript of Franken's impeachment, which is incredibly accurate, considering it's satire. For example, the democrats asking questions like, "Is your job hard? Have you ever seen the president weep?" while the republicans call for the defendants (administration officials) to be gagged and blindfolded. I think everyone who isn't offended by what Franken does on the campaign trail will love this book, including conservatives.
Rating: Summary: Laugh Out Loud Funny! Review: The premise is simple. Al Franken for President. Why Not? In this laugh out loud political parody of a Presidential campaign, Al Franken takes us deep inside his rise to power. Explosively funny with his Rat Pack of wacky friends and ideas, the reader cannot help but laugh along. Many times I had to set the book down because I was laughing so hard! My favorite part of the book was reading his daily diary enteries! He has carried on the humor tradition proudly in this, yet another gutbusting Al Franken book. Definitely would recommend for a good laugh!
Rating: Summary: why not me? Review: A huge disappointment! Al Franken's zenith was on Saturday Night Live just by saying "Hi, I'm Al Franken". It's been mostly downhill since. Why not me really implies an inability to grasp political/comical thought.
Rating: Summary: It was uneven. Review: Franken is a very funny guy with a sense of the absurd. This is not his best work. While hilarious in the beginning, it became tedious & juvenile. I didn't want to skip over anything in case it got funny again. Disappointing.
