Summary: This Book is SOOO Funny...It should be made into a movie!
Review: This book was extremely funny. I literally read it in one sitting and laughed profusely. It is a combination of the War Room, Primary Colors, True Colors, Bob Roberts & All's Fair -- Love, War, and Running for President. Anything I can do to help the book become a movie, please contact me. And oh yeah, buy this book, you'll laugh hard.

Summary: Franken is Simply Brilliant
Review: Franken's book hits home in today's age of politics. He hits the nail on the head. While it is not as funny as "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" the book still is miles above other humor novels, and the concept is fresh and well-written. A must read for any serious American.

Summary: Franken at His Best!
Review: This is Al Franken at his best! Unlike the "Rush" book, which was more of a commentary, "Why Not Me" is a brilliant fictional-type book that is non-stop laughs. The book holds back nothing and makes fun of everything in its path. If you ever want to read a great satire on the political system, this is the book for you.

Summary: It's the humor, stupid.
Review: Something is funny the first time. The second time, it loses some. By the 200th time, it's mind-numbing. Al Franken tries to make his brother's drinking, Al's frolicing with prostitues, and ATM fees funny. After twenty pages of this, it becomes mind-numbing. The only thing worse than reading about the campaign is reading about the 100 days of the Franken presidency. Luckily, his presidency is short; unfortunately, the book is about 270 pages too long.

Summary: This book is hilarious.
Review: Al Franken has written a very funny book that even republicans can enjoy (I should know, I am one), but he isolates readers who live in certain states, are of certain religious backgrounds, or are of certain ethnic backgrounds. The book is slow at first, but it picks up speed quickly. The body is hilarious, but the ending is too quick and lacks any form of suspense. Readers looking for an element of suprise should not read the back cover or the opening letters of the book.

Summary: Where did the funny Al Franken go???
Review: I was a great fan of Al Franken during his SNL days. I bought this book hoping for some flashes of that comic genius, however, it's not to be found in this effort. The ATM fee angle gets real tired and the whole work lacks the subtle wit that we were treated to in his glory days. Maybe his work on Newsline should have been a clue, but I recommend skipping this one. My advice: save your money and watch SNL reruns.

Summary: I Laughed, I Cried, Well, At Least I Laughed
Review: Al Franken treats the current state of our political process with the right combination of reverence and humor. In a fictitious rendering of his 1999-2000 campaign and his short-lived stint in the White House, he shows that, just perhaps, he has what it takes to become the most powerful man in the world. His campaign is based on a simple issue that affects many of us--oppressive ATM fees. Heck, in the last election, less serious candidates got millions of votes. Laughter is good for your health, so if you're the kind of person who can see themselves asking "Why not Al Franken?" buy this book. Warning, though. If you hated Franken's previous book, this book will probably also go right over your head.

Summary: toooo cute...and the premise was silly.CFS is NOT depression
Review: Al Franken is not funny in this book. He is a character, but the plot is NOT funny. His take-off on the disease Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is also not even amusing.

Summary: AL FRANKEN IS BRILLIANT
Review: Anyone who appreciates humor will love this book. Franken again produces a brilliant peice of political satire, every American should read this book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Hilarious account of fizzled ficticious Franken presidency.
Review: Al Franken is familiar to the public after years of serving as a character player and writer on Saturday Night Live, starring in his own Newsline TV parody of network news, and as the author of "Rush Limbaugh is a Big F+at Idiot".

"Why Not Me" can only add to the writer's fame, if not popularity. In an very free-wheeling stream-of-satire-consciousness, for which Franken thanks Larry Flynt's 1st amendment court victory, Franken details his fictional campaign and victory in the race for the 2000 presidential election.

Not much is sacred in Franken's world. Apparently quite comfortable with depicting himself as a rather amoral liar and cheat, Franken proceeds to populate his campaign and presidency with equally despicable associates. His brother Otto gives new meaning to the term "dirty tricks". Just why Dan Haggerty has earned a starring role in Franken's demented political sphere is beyond me, but he adds a somewhat buffoonish foil to some of Otto's more mean-spirited efforts.

There are not many books that have caused me to laugh out loud when reading alone. "Why Not Me" is one of them. However, by the time I got to the last third of the book, the Bob Woodward parody account of the brief and chaotic Franken presidency, I was getting a bit weary of Al's overwhelmingly self-deprecating wierd world. Perhaps it was because at the same time every radio and TV was blasting away with live coverage of an even wierder world, the US Senate debating impeachment charges against Clinton.

Still, all in all, a very enjoyable read, and one that only Al Gore need fear.
