Summary: Savor the Style, the Energy, the Wit....
Review: ....because we aren't getting any new Vicky Bliss for a looooong time! The author says her publisher is making her stick to that tiresome (my word, not hers) Peabody/Emerson saga. Bliss fans have no recourse but to reread and commit to memory the existing Vicky books. Me, I'm not taking this awful news lying down. As soon as I climb out of my box of chocolates (medicinal purposes), I'm going to compose a sharp letter to Peters' tyrannical publisher.

Summary: Love Vicky Bliss, can't wait for more!
Review: A Night Train to Memphis gives us another insight into the relationship between John "Smythe" and Vicky Bliss. She finally meets his mother, and seems to get along with her. You will be on pins and needles the whole book wondering how he could have married another. Anyone who enjoys the saga of Vicky and John should read Camelot Caper. Recognize anyone? It's our old friend John.

Summary: Vicky and John (and Schmidt) go to Egypt
Review: and have many interesting adventures there.

In this 1994 adventure, the 5th, and unfortunately latest, in the Vicky Bliss series Dr. Vicky Bliss is approached to foil a planned robbery of Egyptian artifacts from the Cario museum. She is asked to pose as an expert on a Nile cruise, a cruise geared for amateur Egyptolists. Vicky protested her unsuitablity for this assignment until she realized that the suspected thief was none other than her sometime lover, the mysterious "Sir John Smythe".

Naturally Vicky does join the group, and does find her lover there - along with his mother and new bride. The adventure then takes off at a typical Peters breakneck pace, filled with bodies, false identities, lies, wild chases through the desert night, fantastic escapes and....well if you've read any of Peter's work you get the picture and if you haven't you should, just don't start with this one.

For fans of Peter's work there are many wonderful little treats in this one, John claims a name from his past as his own, hints at a long family connection to Egypt (could his real last name be Emerson?), Schmidt is developed as more than a cardboard comic character, a husband and wife Egyptologist team of the past century is mentioned and a 'writer of popular Egyptian mystery adventures' makes a cameo apprearance.

This is a particularly fun read, only marred by the fact that it is the last Vicky Bliss - so far - I refuse to give up hope!

Summary: WE NEED MORE VICKY BLISS!
Review: And, don't let anybody but K. Turner read them

Summary: esperate for more Vicky Bliss (AND JOHN)!
Review: As someone who just finished the Vicky Bliss series, I am suffering from withdrawal. This book is excellent, with a superbly complex plot which will thrill any mystery reader. Personally, I find the romance between John and Vicky even more compelling--I'm very much in love with John! This book is much more serious than Trojan Gold, the 4th book in the series, despite many humourous incidents: I did not find myself laughing out loud quite as much. But what a wonderful book! My only complaint would be that Vicky is so set in her opinions and views, it is hard to judge any of the characters fairly. Besides, I am dying to know what's going on inside of John's head....

Summary: One Wild Ride
Review: Elizabeth Peter's books are known for their quirky plot twists but this one outdoes them all. As a huge fan of the Vicky Bliss series, I have practically memorized every book. This one, however, threw even me for a loop! Having vicariouly thrilled to Vicky's growing relationship with "Sir John", the "other woman" felt like a personal slap in the face. The already well-written characters reveal even more facets as Vicky struggles to discover and foil theft and intrigue on the Nile, while coping with personal probelms of her own. The supremely competent Vicky stumbles a little in this one, while Sir John and Schmidt are revealed in a whole new light. Nothing and no one in this story are what they seem to be. This book left me wondering right up to the very end. Please, Please, Please, let Ms. Peters write another sequel soon! Each book in the series has just been better and better!

Summary: A humorous tale of adventure, archaeology, and romance...
Review: Elizabeth Peters is in fine form in this novel of intrigue, suspense, and love! The heroine, Dr. Vicky Bliss, an expert on Medieval art, is asked to join a cruise down the Nile to try and identify a thief, and a clever and exciting story winds all over Egypt. As always, the characters make the story and "Sir John" steals every scene. There are numerous plot twists and touches of Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers which enrich this highly entertaining tale. Peters skillfully entwines wit and wisdom with passion, Egyptology, and murder.
Fans of Peters will really enjoy this book with each re-reading. The plot creation and character development are some of her best, and her humorous style makes one laugh even in the moments of greatest suspense!

Summary: A must read!
Review: Elizabeth Peters is one of the best authors I have read any books from, ever. In Night Train to Memphis, which was the first one I read in the Vicky Bliss series, I became absolutley hooked. Imagine my joy then, when I found that she had four more in the series, beginning with Borrower of the Night, proceeding to Street of Five Moons, which is succeeded by Silhouette in Scarlet, to Trojan Gold, and then back to Night Train to Memphis. It is much better to read them in order, I have learned, but it's ok if you've already started. I have read them all maybe 100 times and still love them. I have my fingers crossed and hands entwined in prayer that she will write another Vicky Bliss. To tide you over, I highly reccomend her Amelia Peabody Series, which starts with Crocodile on the Sandbank and has many things in them that are so fun to read in the Vicky Bliss books, such as the wit and strong female character.

Summary: This is Peters at her Best!!!
Review: First of all: If this is your first Vicky Bliss stop reading this review right now. Go back and read the others in the series starting with "Street of Five Moons" (Borrower of the Night was actually first but it isn't nearly as good as the others. Maybe I think think this because I am in love with John though....) Follow "Street of Five Moons" with "Sillouette in Scarlet" and "Trojan Gold". After those, this book will be much more fun to read. After I read Trojan Gold I thought that Ms. Peter's books just couldn't get any better. "Night Train to Memphis" is absolutely amazing. I started it and couldn't put it down until I knew what happened. The characters all seemed like old friends and even after I read it again and again I would laugh out loud at the witty remarks made by John and Vicky. If the rest of the Bliss fans are suffering as much as I am from the authors failure to produce anymore Vicky Bliss mysteries ( I hope it isn't permanent) I thoroughly recommend "The Camelot Caper". I read it before "Night Train to Memphis" and didn't recognize it until it was pointed out to me, but this is John's first scam.
