Summary: Breathtaking, Magnificent, and Real!!!
Review: While reading this book EVERY evening after work I could not get to bed, cause I couldn't put it down. Page after page of nothing but intense reality. It was as if I were looking at each chapter happen right in front of my own eyes. This is one of her best books yet. My favorite was "Mama" but now "Mama" comes second to this one. If you are someone who likes to taken into the story and live it, "A Day Late and A Dollar Short" is definantly the book for you. I don't know what Mrs. McMillan will do to top this one, but it has to be something extordinary.

Review: I love Terry McMillan! I have read Disappearing Acts, Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back. However, A Day Late and a Dollar Short, her new novel, is my favorite! McMillan is known for her great characterization -- the narrators' voices literally come out of the pages! She takes this to the next level with this new novel.McMillan takes us on a journey in the lives of the Price family. Viola's struggle to keep her four children in order. Of course, they are all adults, but she can't help but worry. There's Paris, a divorcee who is always helping others. There's also Charlotte, the one with the teenage daughter from hell. And who can forget Lewis? He can never stay out of jail. I was introduced to each character as though I was having an actual conversation with them. I cannot recommend this great novel enough. Terry McMillan is not just a great voice for African American women, but for women in general. I don't think I have to mention the legacy that Waiting to Exhale has left us! It was about time you wrote a new novel, Terry!

Review: This book was a great read! It reminded of her first book "Mama", which happens to be my favorite book by McMillan. This book will have you laughing and crying. I really enjoyed this book because she kept the Price Family real. This is a great come back for Terry McMillan.

Summary: Terry McMillan's Back!
Review: First off I must say I was shaky about buying this book. Waiting to Exhale, and How Stella Got her Groove Back didn't exactly showcase the talents of Terry McMillan. Mama and Disappearing Acts made an avid fan out of me. They both built a fire in me that made me want more of her books. Waiting To Exhale, and How Stella Got her Groove Back, dampened the fire just a little bit. With a Day Late and A Dollar Short, the fire roaring again. I absolutely loved this book, from start to finish. The characters were well developed; I didn't have to guess what made them the way they were. My favorite character, (Mrs. Vy of course) was witty, outspoken, and a breath of fresh air. A Mother who was able to admit that she made mistakes, and didn't apologize for being human. All of the characters were well unique in there own ways. I recommend this book to any and everyone. To Mrs. McMillan, I would like to say, Welcome Back, it's been along time coming.

Summary: The importance of family, especially a mother
Review: "Waiting to Exhale" is such an incredibly smart, clever, and "on time" book, that having "When Stella Got Her Groove Back" follow it, was an incredible disappointment. Therefore, "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" is a particularly welcome and encouraging rebound for Terry McMillan. It is an enjoyable read with a poignant message. Unfortunately is not nearly as skillfully and carefully crafted as the author's earlier works. The book focuses on a typical, in other words "disfunctional" American family. However, the accent is decidedly African American, and reflecting that experience speaks to a distinctive charm, wisdom, and wit. It is a touching testament to how mothers are a reality check and serve as both the bedrock, and glue in families. The most moving part of the story's message is that despite how bitter it may be to swallow the unrelenting honesty of the feedback which mothers dispense, they possess an honored and cherished place and their absence creates a void that cannot be filled. McMillan gives this novel a somewhat formulaic plot, concluding with a predictable, idealistic, happy, and all too tidy ending. Family crises and loss galvanize the family and through mutual support they surmount their problems. A noble concept; if only life were so easy.

Summary: A side of Black life - but not all black life.
Review: I readily admit that I am a card carrying member of the Black Bourgeoisie so the characters in this book were a little foreign to me. Terry gives a side of Black life that many people live, but not all Black people live this way. Perhaps my problem with the book is that many people will read this book and believe that all African American men are as unfaithful and as low down as the ones that Terry shows in this book. Has Terry ever met a decent Black man? If so, she sure doesn't write about him.

Review: Terry is back to reclaim her crown and sit on the throne as the Queen of African-American fiction! Since her absence, many have tried to imitate her, replace her and follow in her footsteps. Summary: Terry at her best!!!
Review: This is the best book I've read in awhile. I loved the characters, and the book left me wanting more. It was so real, and I saw some of these characters in my own family. Makes me wonder what they're all up to now. Great job Ms. McMillan.
