Summary: Page-turning
Review: BEFORE I SAY GOOD-BYE includes a lot (romance, corruption, envy, politics) and makes full use off all of them. It's a fabulous who-done-it. The best suspense thriller since Michael Crichton's TIMELINE and Craig Furrnas' THE SHAPE. And I think it's a treat that this novel is longer than a lot of Clark's novels. More words to savor!

Summary: A Great Read!
Review: Known for her suspenseful bestsellers, Mary Higgins Clark writes an intriguing tale that combines elements of a thriller with that of an amateur sleuth mystery. The story line is fun and exciting, especially when Nell begins her inquiries. Nell is a wonderful character and her grandfather comes across as a powerful individual. The support cast is developed to the point where the reader understands their flaws. Ms. Clark provides her myriad of fans with another enthralling tale filled with action and adventure exciting tale. After curling up with my favorite reading music, (John McArthur's, Hidden) and some great green tea, a few candles and a warm Friday Night, I read the whole thing in one sitting. It was that good.

Summary: Simply Wonderful!
Review: Like any other Mary Higgins Clark book, this one is also a great read. The only thing I don't like is that it is a little dragging in the begginning but it is perfectly alright because once the tension builds up one cannot put the book down. Even after reading the book it still give me creeps...I am buying another copy for a friend...because it is one of the greatest gift one can give.

Summary: Another MHK special
Review: Former Congressman Cornelius "Mac" MacDermott asks his granddaughter Nell Cauliff to run for his old seat in the House. Two years ago she rejected his request because her spouse objected to her becoming Mac's legislative puppet. However, this time Nell decides she wants to run for the public office as politics is in her blood.

The next day she informs her husband, architect Adam Cauliff, about her plans. He becomes irate and they have a serious argument before he leaves for a meeting on his cruiser. An explosion occurs on the ship apparently killing Adam, several business associates and employees. Nell is left feeling guilty and ashamed of herself. The police believe the explosion was deliberate.

When rumors abound that Adam was on the take, Nell decides to investigate the accident to prove her spouse's innocence, which means one of the other guests was the intended victim. She also follows Adam's instructions from the grave thorough a medium while a killer looks on, wondering if Nell needs to be eliminated.

Summary: Excellent Book!
Review: This is one of MHC's BEST books! I just picked it up and could not put it down--I finished it in one night. The plot was excellent and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. Nell is one of her best heroines--totally lovable and smart! I love the way that MCH combines romance with suspense and has the reader wondering what will happend the whole time. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Summary: Mary Higgins Clark Continues Her Quest To Success!
Review: I got this book 10 days before the scheduled release date and boy was I excited. As usual this was another wonderful Mary Higgins Clark thriller. You could never guess who did what and who was the killer because there were so many twists and turns! Like always, there were so many characters that you could never guess who did what. But like always, Mary draws them all together and leads up to a magnificent conclusion. Keep up the great work MARY!

Summary: Gets tedious
Review: It is SO LONG. Really thick. There's nothing in these characters that makes you care about them. Nell is a rich snob with an annoying grandfather. Her "dead" husband Adam is just a boring snob. Nothing in between suggests Clark's penchant for creating riveting tales of horror. Ultimately a letdown. Check out A Cry in the Night or The Cradle Will Fall instead.

Summary: good for a shiver!
Review: Before I Say Goodbye started out slow for me, mainly because I don't consider politicians all that intriguing. However, I kept reading and I'm glad I did. The mystery's solution was creepy. It gave me the shivers. I'm tempted to tell, so I'd better stop right there. I will say that I love a mystery where the author leaves me with a feeling of complete justification for both my suspicion and my surprise. This makes for a very satisfying read. I also like the touch of romance in all of Mary Higgins Clark's novels.

Summary: A story of trust and love mis-placed
Review: This was a great read. I enjoyed it throughly. Ms. Clark developes wonderful characters, and she uses them to masterfully keep you guessing to the end. Like most of Ms. Clark's novels this story has a surprise ending that won't dissapoint.

After reading this book I felt as is I was looking for something more in the end, and it would be easy enough to spin a sequel from the open ending. That just isn't Ms. Clark's style however. Even with an ending that I felt left too many loose ends, I didn't come away from this read with any true dissapointment. I would definitely recommend this novel to any reader looking for suspense.

Summary: Plot Lacks Warmth, Characters Lack Personalities
Review: Before I Say Goodbye is a rather tepid, slow novel that never caught my interest. The main character Nell was much like the plot. They both lacked real direction or warmth.

From the first page I thought that Nell was a bland character. The novel starts by Nell complaining that she is only `attractive' rather than beautiful or sexy. This sort of character always gets on my nerves as this kind of complaining is ridiculously unnecessary and petty. The novel is fairly slow and the suspense never `got to me' like it used to with Mary Higgins Clark books in the past such as Stillwatch. Nell reminisced a lot about her past marriage and her dead husband but I didn't think any of this sounded particularly heart felt, instead it came across as boring and only added in out of necessity. Eventually I thumbed to the end and read a fairly good twist in the plot although by then I was past caring about the assortment of characters.

Overall Before I Say Goodbye was fairly tiresome and I could not finish it without skimming vast chunks. In the future I won't be snapping up any MHC books as I don't really like the characters that much anymore and the dialogue always seems strained and slow. The women MHC writes about could all be interchanged from book to book without anyone noticing. In terms of physical characteristics they are mostly tall and athletic and MHC seems to have a thing about making the male characters describe them as `classy' constantly. The problem seems to be that the characterisations never go very deep and so it's hard to fully understand or sympathise with the female lead character, which is a real shame.
