Rating: Summary: Please no more "New Age"...... Review: I've read JK since her earliest writing days and have always loved her stuff. Growing up in Vancouver it was always great to read someone who set her books in the area of the world I knew and loved. But if I see one more "new age" or "metaphysical" relationship storyline then it will be too soon. This is definately not her best work and after re-reading some of her latest work I have to confess that I think that they're all starting to sound the same. Couldn't get into these characters at all and despite a promising beginning, no mystery to this mystery.A return to the writing style of her earlier books would be appreciated.
Rating: Summary: Definitely not one of Jayne's best. Review: Where oh where is the Jayne Krentz of the early books - Family Man and Perfect Partners? The last books have been a disappointment to me. If it's a comtemporary book it is New Age and crystals and if it's an historical Amanda Quick it is a map. Enough already. I have saved every one of her books but this last one is going to the second hand store as fast as possible to get something out of it. I get the sense this book was written for a deadline and her heart was not really in it. I've not given up on JK but I hope I have the discipline to wait until the next book comes out in paperback at least. Enough already.
Rating: Summary: Not Jayne's best! Review: One night stands and conspiracy theories are great, but the romance part is supposed to show up somewhere, isn't it?? Trask and Olivia never really get to know one another, which makes their motivations suspect.
Rating: Summary: Again...another New Age story?! Review: As if her past books didn't dwell enough on New Age(rs) and their obsession with crystals, JAK once again has let me down! Having read her for years (and still enjoying her Amanda Quick historical novels), I am disappointed in her mystical and New Age story lines. She is such a good writer that it is a waste of her talents to issue yet another book on the New Age nonsense! I miss her earlier style of writing.
Rating: Summary: Truly the Beholder Review: I have been a Krentz fan since she first started wrting series romances. What got me interested in her stories was the interaction between the characters and the mystery. In Eye of the Beholder, the mystery is still there, but I was disappointed with the interaction between the characters. Trask and Alexa did not click for me as well as some of her other characters have. I enjoyed reading the book. I even liked the mystery, but the ending was not what I expect from Krentz. A fan from way back
Rating: Summary: Boring... Dull... I couldn't even finish it. Review: I usually love Jayne Ann Krentz. Some favorites are GRAND PASSION... SHARP EDGES... ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY... TRUST ME. These novels sparkled with sassy dialogue, unique secondary characters such as Macbeth in TRUST ME, and perfectly wonderful protagonists. EYE OF THE BEHOLDER didn't even come close. There was no wit, the secondary characters were tired New Agey rehashes, and the protagonists were dull and lifeless. What exactly did Alexis do in the course of the story that made her such a "wild woman"? So she entered into a relationship with the dullest man Krentz has ever tried to pass off as a hero. So what? Women do that every day. What's so wild about making love under a fountain? Just sounds dumb to me. Even the Art Deco backdrop was dull. Try again, Ms. Krentz. I'm sure you'll do better next time. I doubt you could do much worse than EYE OF THE BEHOLDER.
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: I just finished "Eye of the Beholder" and found it to be one of the author's better books of late. I hate to admit it but I wasn't in any hurry to pick up this book since I'd read several of JAK's books recently and they had all started sounding alike. But I really liked this one and read it in 2 days - it would have been 1 day but life got in the way. I liked the interaction of the main characters and the eccentricities of the supporting ones. I love it when JAK adds the "odd" people - they make the story more interesting. It had drama, humor (a necessity), and just the right touches of mystery and romance, of course. I liked the fact that the story wasn't overwhelmed by the love interest (Trask & Alexa) but was neatly blended together with the mystery to create a thoroughly enjoyable story. But, I especially liked the fact that I couldn't figure out the entire plot until the end of the story. Tho' the story was lightweight compared to some, it kept me interested and curious. I've read several mysteries lately that were a waste of time - this one wasn't. So, even tho' I thought the ending came a little too quickly & neatly, my only real complaint is the fact that Trask's brother was missing at the finish. How could the story end without Nathan showing up? He's there at the beginning, he's there in the middle, but along comes the ending and he's no where in sight...?
Rating: Summary: Loved every minute of this one! Review: Alexa Chambers is an expert in Art Deco of the early twentieth century. In fact, she is the one who pulled the plug on her employer's huge art scam. In return, she lost her job and her reputation. After all, who wants to hire an expert who would be honest about their employer's dealings? Alexa went to ground for the scandal to die. She now runs a little shop in her home town. J.L. Trask first saw Alexa when she was but a teenager. He had gone to her house to accuse her stepfather of murdering his own father. Now, twelve years later, he returns to find answers to his father's death. Alexa and Trask have an instant mutual attraction. The whole town knows the history of their families and everyone wonders who is using who. Then someone is murdered and two other attempts are made against people in town. Unless Alexa and Trask can find out who the murderer is, they will be the next victims! ***THIS IS THE NEWEST KRENTZ RELEASE! The author once again managed to capture my interest at the beginning and hold onto it through the entire story. A hero for a woman to dream of and a heroine for a woman to admire. Jayne Ann Krentz is a master at Mondern Contemporary!***
Rating: Summary: Not Quite 5 Star Krentz Review: I LOVE Jayne Anne Krentz's books...but this one was not quite on the mark. It was abrupt, as if it were an outline or maybe a movie script proposal. There was no sassy humor. The main characters were good but there were so many secondary characters flashing in and out and without full development that I lost track of who was who. Maybe Jayne should get a new editor who lets her do what she does well, spin a sensual tale of suspense with full character development.
Rating: Summary: Can't Wait! Review: This book looks great. I wish I could get my hands on an advance copy like Harriet does. But then, since she's a professional reviewer, she has better connections!
