Rating: Summary: I hope JAK does a better job in her new book!! Review: JAK used to do this kind of romance very well. She had the very strong male lead, strong female counter-part who may be antagnostic towards one another, but have great physical chemistry; a crisis which can involve either of their respective families, work/careers or both; and a mystery that must be solved. In the Eye of the Beholder, all the ingredients are there, but JAK missed the mark. I haven't given up on her work yet and will be willing to give her next book a try. Her old books which I have been collecting through Amazon.auctions rarely disappoint.
Rating: Summary: Romance? A believable story? I think not!!! Review: This book was a waste of my time and money. I can not believe J.A.K. actually wrote this book. I am a huge fan and I always buy her books. Alex and Trask were not a believable couple. No development whatsoever. I hope her next book, which I will wait until it comes out in paperback, lives up to her usual standards.
Rating: Summary: Boring, Boring, Boring!!!! Review: This was not worth buying the hardcover version. I can't not believe they tried to foist this book on a true J.A.K fan. I've read all of her books and always look forward to obtaining them but was very disappointed in the character development of Alexa and Trask. I did not buy into the fact they fell in love. Why did she have to make the police chief to be such an idiot? I would not recommend this book to anyone. I will have to read the comments before I buy another book of hers.:(
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTING!!!!! Review: The story had no substance and it seemed like I read this book before. The characters were wooden and I really did not care if they got together or not. The next time I buy a hardcover book I will definitely read the reviews. I can't not believe that Ms. Krantz wrote this book. It was not up to her standards.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment for a huge Krentz fan Review: I have always loved JAK's novels, but this one and her most recent Flash were both disppointments. The characters were not developed and the plot ludicrous. Here's hoping she can go back to the way she used to write (Sharp Edges is one of my favorites.)
Rating: Summary: Cardboard cutouts and boring "details" Review: I expect more from a top-line hardback than this book produced. I was surprised but uninterested when the two main characters finally made love. Talk about the kiss of death. (I thought, why are they doing this? And skipped forward some pages.) Like everyone else, I found the people uninteresting and faded copies of earlier Krentz characters. But I'll add something: ALL the extra details added by the author for flavor text were just that: added artificial flavoring. They had no point or purpose and No Impact on plot or character. I found this exasperating. Examples: the setting is Arizona, and there is a visitor (the Hero, Mr. Boring) from Seattle. Let me tell you as one who has visited sunny climes after living a while in the Pacific Northwest: You burn. You can't see because it's too sunny and wear sunglasses and sunblock all the time. Everyone is very tan. You are very pale. Adding setting impact would have been so easy! I don't expect perfection, but for some detail somewhere to have relevance/impact sometime would be nice. As it was written, there was no real difference between her settings in Seattle and this one in Arizona except for descriptions of scenery and turquoise bracelets. And where did the rainstorm come from? Except for physical descriptions, the art was no different from the other art in her other books (like the glass). Its purpose was to exist for the purposse of forging and nothing else. The whole book was like that! If it's just there as part of the mystery, make up something new! The heroine's shop was the same as wild creatures, there was a Seattle style tea shop... Argh. I'm annoyed just remembering. Get it from the library and preview before buying. And did I mention the random tiny chapters? (Trying to extend it????!!??)
Rating: Summary: I usually love her books but this one was the same old story Review: J.A.K.'s stories are usually a quick enjoyable read. They get to the point and the main characters are usually fun interesting people with great more than one dimentional PERSONALTIES! Not these! The story was boring, new age was boring, the scenery was boring, and the romance was boring (which was unforgivable). The only good part was that I would never have figured out who did the dirty deed .... probaly because the characters were not very well developed. I felt that she got an old plot and changed the location and the characters names but left out the good stuff. I was disappointed and will wait to buy her next book in paperback (if I buy it at all) instead of buying another J.A.K.s hard cover just because I love J.A.K.
Rating: Summary: Same old, same old Review: What a disappointment. Krentz just seems to be recycling bits and pieces of her old books. It's the same hardbitten businessman, yuppie cuisine, New Age nonsense, etc. The characters are simply flat; more "Krentz caricatures" than people. Worse, there isn't a flicker of genuine emotion in the whole darned thing. Save your money. This is a dud.
Rating: Summary: Boring, Dull and Extremely Unoriginal Review: I hate to say it, but I think Ms. Krentz has finally reached the bottom of the barrel. Once again, the young, independent heroine, who has been beaten up by the Powers That Be, falls for the strong, dull (but actually very sexy) business man. Lets see, that's the plot of Absolutely, Positively, The Adventurer, Deep Waters, Flash, The Golden Chance, Grand Passion, Hidden Talents, Main Attraction, Sharp Edges, Silver Linings, Witchcraft, Family Man, Between the Lines, True Colors, Man with a Past etc. (I'm looking at my bookshelf, and trying not to cringe at all the book-trader credits I've wasted), not to mention the books written under her pseudonyms, Jayne Castle and Amanda Quick. While she has left the series romance publishers, she still writes like she did for Harlequin/Sillhouette/Candlelight, etc. Her characters are identical except for vocations and names. In all honestly, that's barely acceptable when you pay $3.50 for a book, it's intolerable when you're shelling out $20! I don't think Ms Krentz even knows that there is a whole world outside of Seattle and Arizona (oh, yeah, she does know a very little bit about Regency London). Reading more than one of her books is a waste of time and effort. The list of ingredients on a bottle of water has more depth and substance. If you want alternatives to this utterly mindless fluff, I recommend Linda Howard for contemporaries and Karen Ranney or Loretta Chase for historicals. Those ladies understand what it means to create a dark, mysterious hero and an independent, strong heroine. I suggest to Ms. Krentz that she invest her time in reading something else besides her own books. She may actually get an idea.
Rating: Summary: big anticipation bigger disappointment Review: I should just say "ditto" to the other poor reviews of this book. The characters were flat and the snappy dialogue was definitely missing, My copy of the book was donated to the library without a backward glance. I had even read the reviews before I bought the book so shame on me......I guess I was just a doubting Thomas....that will teach me!
