Rating: Summary: String of short stories inconsistent with the series Review: Overall, I did enjoy this book, but it had two main problems; inconsistencies with the series and poor plot development. I kept asking myself, "Is that right? That doesn't seem consistent with the series." Many other reviewers have already mentioned some of these, such as details in Tom Paris' life, Klingon honor, etc. The plot problem is that the string of stories is very weakly held together. It is very clear that the plot is only an excuse to put these character histories together in one novel. There should have been more plot development to make us believe that they shared their stories for a reason, or the book should simply have been turned into a collection of short stories. I was also disappointed that each story ended at the beginning of the Voyager adventure, with little connection to how they thought/felt about their lives since that point. My final gripe is that it was not believable that Tom Paris had previously served under Chakotay in the Maquis. It is already too much of a coincidence that Tuvok was connected to both crews. In summary, I think that the book is worth reading, but hard-core STV fans will find the book's problems frustrating.
Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: If you've never read this book, you have to. It is one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read. I give this one five stars. It is one in a million, I can tell you that. I'm starting to read it to my little sister (who isn't really into Star Trek) but she likes it, too. I have her nervous, excited, laughing. She can't wait to hear more. She tells me to keep on reading and she won't give me a break. I get tired reading it to her because she won't let me stop. I really love this book, though.
Rating: Summary: Pathways - a must for all Voyager fans Review: I am just about finished Pathways and I have throughly enjoyed reading about all the characters and what they did before they joined Voyager. This book helps the fan really understand the characters and their weaknesses.
Rating: Summary: Pathways By Jeri Ryan (Not a Very Orignal Title? Huh?) Review: I read the book Pathways by Jeri Taylor and it was absolutely terrific. Pathways does not start out slow like some books, it jumps head first into the action. Chakoty,Tuvoc,Tom,Neelix,Seven,B'elana,Harry, and Kes are seprarated from Voyager, and are imprisoned in a disese ridden internment camp. That is run by a hostile race of aliens. but the true chalenge is to get out of this awful situtation alive. To pass the time while they are in a shaby patched together tent, they each in turn tell the story of their life before comming to Voyager. This book like Imzadi tells the unknown story behind each of the charcter's lives and gives new insite into the dynamics of each of the charcters. And it also explains the reasons behind some of their little personaity quarks, that you just could never figure out watching the show. This book is not only written well it is technicaly accurate in part because it is written by the Co-Creator of the series.I loved it and I STRONGLY recomend it to anybody that is a fan of any of the Star Trek series. But, you(HaHaHa)don't have to take my word for it.
Rating: Summary: A lot better than expected... Review: Before I read this book, I looked at book reviews from different readers. I became wary because at the time, I found that many people disliked the book, but I bought it and read it anyway. It was REALLY good! Mrs. Taylor did a wonderful job with the background stories (Especially Chakotay and Harry's). I thought that the camp situation was really interesting and I wish more would've been said about that, but I understand that the porpose for the book was to explore the characters, the camp just set the reason for telling them. This really is a book worth reading!
Rating: Summary: A must read Review: Of all the Star Trek books, the most important to read are the ones that do the pre-tv character development. This one combines a story line that is really more of a hindrance to the book than anything else with fascinating and captivating explanations of certain characters' voyage to Voyager. Ignore the main plot and concentrate on the stories.
Rating: Summary: Synopsis was Wrong Review: Great book but the synopsis was all wrong. I also thought it was a good book. Some people here have overanalyzed it. it is hard to remain consistent with the stories of the lifetimes of FICTIONOUS characters; that is, characters that won't be born if we have WWIII in 2063 and Zemfram Cochrane, for another 300 or so years.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS DA-BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book is toooo cool!! I could read it over and over again. I thought it was interesting that somebody finally wrote about the VOYAGER crew. That somebody actually went into LOTS of detail. Thank you Jeri Taylor! The strange thing was that Neelix was dreaming about Kes, her entire life story. That was kinda Wierd. N-E-Wayz, READ THE BOOK!
Rating: Summary: I've fallen in love with Voyager and this Book!!!!!!!!! Review: Pathways was the best book I have ever read in my life!!!!! A must read for any Voyager fan!!!!! Rating: Summary: The Best Star Trek Book Review: I think that this book gives a very interesting insite into who the characters really are. This was one of the best books that I have read in my whole life. If you are interested in knowing more about the Voyager characters this book is for you. I thought that it was really nice to tell Kes's story in the book even though she isn't on the ship anymore. I would like to know what she evlved int though. All of the stories were very touching. The plot is that some of the crew get trapped and to pass the time every night one person tells the story of their life.
