Summary: More Stone Barrington Escapades
Review: Stone Barrington, New York City cop turned lawyer, and his partner Dino, are experiencing a cop's worst fear...that one of the criminals they helped convict harbors a grudge and decides to get even. Herbert Mittledorfer, serving time for killing his wife, is determined to get revenge, and several of Stone and Dino's friends and associates have been killed. But the odd thing is that Herbert is still in prison.

As Stone and Dino work to unravel the mystery of how Mittledorfer is accomplishing his mayhem, Stone continues to be pursued by women and somehow rake in obscene amounts of money from his successful law career. Sarah, a former lover and artist returning from several years in Europe, moves back in temporarily with Stone, and they impulsively decide to purchase and furnish a cottage in Connecticut one weekend. But, just a few chapters later, Sarah is fleeing back to Italy after the gallery in which she is exhibiting her art is bombed...apparently another of Mittledorfer's attacks.

Enter Dolce, Dino's sister-in-law, daughter of a rich, powerful reformed Mafioso. Dolce gets her hooks into Stone (and his mattress), while the scent of the departed Sarah is still in the air. Dolce and her father are aware of the danger Stone finds himself in, and are attempting to help him sort it out, but their interference may be more of a hindrance than a help due to questionable tactics.

In spite of the intrigue, sex and violence, I was never as engaged by this novel as by the many other Stone Barrington sagas. The pacing was somehow off, some of the story lines too unrealistic, and the motivations of Mittledorfer too ambiguous and unexplored. However, even though this novel wasn't the same caliber as other Woods' novels, I'm sure I'll stay tuned for more Barrington episodes.

Summary: Very readable
Review: Stone Barrington. That name says it all. May as well be Julius Caeser what with all the beddings involved here...I mean, gee-whiz! A good, speedy plot that is a tad contrived at times served me well till the last page. The fuel was the bigness of the characters, who seem to live in fancy restaurants and "BEAUTIFULLY CUT SUITS". He really likes that phrase. I do not.
However, the book is just good, dirty fun.

Summary: Great fun--as usual
Review: Stuart Woods has a great thing going with Stone and Dino. The Books are a little formula driven with Dino saving the day for Stone and Stone for others, but that is it. The Stories are all different and interesting. I would say that others like Sandford , Margolin, John Grisham and DeMille are better, but boy is he entertaining. The RUN is good too. I really wish I were Stone--minus the bullet holes and other injuries.

Summary: Truly a lost cause
Review: As an avid reader, I've read 4 or 5 of Stuart Wood's books before this one. I've always enjoyed his work, but this one is a big disapointment. This book focuses more on Stone's bed hopping than it does on suspense. In fact, if I had to use one word to describe this book it would be "boring". Mr. Woods I hope you will do better next time. I've gotten about 3/4 of the way through the book and I doubt I will finish it. Reading this book is like walking through muck. You will need hip boots to get through all the sludge.

Summary: "It's worth reading twice"
Review: I have just started reading books by Stuart Woods and find them very enjoyable. I have just read Worst Fears Realized and L A Dead. I can't believe that this book is only rated a 3-star book because I give it 5-stars. I just enjoy Stone Barrington and his mysteries. I have already ordered 13 more novels by Woods and I am sure that they will be just as good. The one good thing that I like is that Woods makes Barrington out to be just a normal guy and not some super hero. This is why I will buy and read as many of his books as I can.

Summary: A fast paced, good read...
Review: I'm happy to say that despite the average ratings this book received, I took a chance and bought it. (I have to admit, it WAS on sale when I bought it though.) Anyway, having read it, I'd have purchased it at full price had I known how enjoyable a read this was.

I've read a few Stone Barrington books in my day, but admittedly not a lot. This one, however, ranks up there on my list because of the "excitement" factor in this book. It was a fast paced read, that seemed charged with energy, wit, dry humor and suspense. I felt as if I knew the characters, and was hanging out with them.

The women in Stone's life tug him this way and that, but in either direction, they add life and nice twists to the story. The danger factor was high too, and that part of the book was interesting and well written. The killer was crafty, intelligent and hell-bent on getting whomever he was after. He had Stone looking over his shoulder trying to get out of this mess.

In sum, I really enjoyed this book. The narrator of the audiobook version I listened to was excellent. His skills brought the story and the characters to life and added to my enjoyment. I would recommend this book.

Summary: STONE THE BONE
Review: Like others who have reviewed WFR, this was a quick read. Stuart Woods gives us another episode of Stone Barrington, complete with sex, money and suspense. Once I picked the book up, it kept my interest until I finished.

If there is a fault with WFR, it is the ending. I expected something more detailed and riveting. It didn't happen. I've read several books by Stuart Woods and have found them to be worthwhile. The Stone Barrington character possesses quite a few traits that many of Mr. Woods' male readers probably only dream about. A cut-and-dried ending does not favor Stone.

Summary: Good Book--Better, if you've read the others in the Series
Review: Mr Woods' Stone Barrington series is entertaining storytelling/fascinating characterization at its contemporary best. "Worst Fears Realized" is the fifth book in the series, and though it is suspenseful and courageous on its own, you'll enjoy it tenfold if you read the others first, starting with "New York Dead," "Dirt," "Dead in the Water," "Swimming to Catalina,"(my personal favorite), then "Worst Fears Realized." Is this book worth reading the others first? Hell yes.

Summary: Fast Paced, But At Times Erratic
Review: I read this book in less than two days and can understand why so many other reviewers here found this book lacking compared to previous Stone Barrington novels. Perhaps they are right and Stuart Woods is slipping. However, while this book certainly is not a great novel, it also does not deserve a 1 star rating, either.

Fans of Stuart Woods need to remember that Stone Barrington was created by the author as SOMETHING OF A CARICATURE. Several installments back, Mr. Woods even commented in one of his afterwords that readers had commented on Stone's sluttish behavior. He stated (somewhat tongue in cheek) that he tried to tone Stone's behavior down but Stone just wouldn't toe the party line. In any case, these books are light reads and should not be confused with Tolstoy or Dickens.

WORST FEARS REALIZED is just another fast paced read in the continuing saga of Stone Barrington and his upper crust NY friends. This book has it all: Stone bedding one gorgeous woman after another, lots of money, Mafia dons, released psychopaths hunting Stone and Dino Bachetti and killing their friends. This is a quick easy read and I found it entertaining. I laughed a lot at some of the funny lines that Woods gives his characters to deliver.

Give the guy a break! Mr Woods has written over 21 books. How many of the critics here at Amazon have done that? How many readers could craft even the worst of his efforts and turn it into a bestseller? I defy any of the other 44 reviewers who submitted reviews before me to do so. I know I can't (and haven't) and therefore, reserve my harsher criticisms for those truly terrible pieces of trash that get past editors and publishers. This may not be his best effort to date, but it's still a damn sight better than a lot of the schlocky stuff that passes for popular literature.

What can I say? WFR kept me reading and after finishing it, I immediately picked up a copy of L.A. DEAD where the adventures of Stone Barrington, Esq. and "bon vivant" are continued. When I finish it, I'll pass along my comments.

Summary: Worst Fears Realized by Stuart Woods
Review: Woods first books were riveting. Perhaps, at times far-fetched, but good character development, etc. This thing is not worth the time it takes one to read the cover. There is little plot and that is true of only the first few pages. Stone's "bedding" becomes central with little relevance to plot. Very poor. I agree with another reviewer - I didn't care if they were all murdered. I wouldn't have cared if I had lost the book! It is the only book that I have literally thrown in the garbage.
