Rating: Summary: This is a fantastic book! Review: "Boy Meets Girl" is the perfect finish to "IKDG". "IKDG" focused on having a heart for God's will and a heart to serve others, and this book emphasizes that even more. Josh shows us again that it's not about "rules" or legalism, it's about honoring God and putting the other person first. I loved every chapter, and I really liked the way Joshua and Shannon clarified that it isn't about the terms (dating or courtship) as much as the heart. This book answered a lot of questions I had, and it was very encouraging to read some true stories of people who waited for God's best!
Rating: Summary: Not for people older than 14 Review: I am a university student, age 20, and I read this book recently with my girlfriend. The author had some wonderful ideas and topics, yet, I felt like I was in Junior High again. If I was in 7th or 8th grade and I got this book, I think I would have really liked it. Yet at present it felt like he was talking down to me.
A lot of the ideas I already knew and unfortinually I was on the next to last chapter before I made notes of anything in the book (and yes, I like to make notes when I see things that stand out to me or are things I should remember).
I can see this man as being a wonderful Junior High Youth Pastor and God will definately bless that. But if you are older than that age I would recommend getting something else.
Rating: Summary: Simle book, has a point Review: I bough this book to help me direct my current relationship. I like the style and apprach of Joshua. My favorite chapter is on "what are lips for". I think that communication is very imporant in a relationship. His advice helped me to limit my passion and search for another ways to express fellings.
My boyfriend also liked this book.
Sincerely,
Yevgeniya

Rating: Summary: Abolutely Ridiculous Review: I can't believe this book has gained the popularity it has. Who ever heard of someone getting "frisky" just by lying in a hammock?!?!? That is your first warning that this guy has some major issues. Well, at least he is enjoying all the royalties from the sale of this ridiculous book. I'm sure God is pleased about that.
Rating: Summary: Boy Meets Girl Review: I first heard about this book by reading Harris' Not Even A Hint. I picked up a copy at the Onething convention and could not put it down until I finished it. I have learned so much through the book and applied the concepts to my life. The book is backed up by Scripture and gives awesome examples of courtships couples have had. I recommend this book to everyone--no matter if you're looking for courtships or not. Be blessed.
Rating: Summary: Not just for dating Review: I greatly enjoyed this book. Not only did it give me good, Godly guidance on my relationship with my boyfriend of nearly 2 years, it helped me greatly when it comes to my own personal walk with God. I have read certain chapters over and over again -- the truth in them keeps drawing me back! The chapter on God's love and powers (and willingness) of redemption. While I'm not a "bad" or "immoral" person, I have never felt good enough for anyone -- even God. I often wonder why He put me on this earth, and whether I make Him happy even though I consider myself a failure (with 3 college degrees and a great job and tiny home and loving family and boyfriend, at only 25, I guess I'm not truly a failure, but I feel like it). The chapter on redemption and love brought me to tears, and I feel closer to God since reading it -- He really does love every one of us, no matter what we do, and in His eyes, we are perfect, successful little beings that he just adores. Harris' advice is quite good. While some feel he is too strict (and I agree in some areas), I think his heart is in the right place -- he is trying to please God, and trying to help others do the same thing. Additionally, he is giving couples guidelines for dealing with each other physically, which is something our society desperately needs. Overall, the book is very encouraging and filled with solid advice. I definitely recommend this for anyone who feels and thinks they are ready for marriage, as well as to pastors. Great book!
Rating: Summary: Something we all need to hear Review: I never read Josh Harris's first book because the idea of shunning dating sounded ridiculous to me. I still do not know exactly what Mr. Harris's main idea of that book was, but I know that this book is excellent. He addresses some touchy subjects about dating without totally scaring me. At first, the idea of courtship sounded old-fashioned and out-of-date, but then I realized that he was offering not as much an alternative to dating as a new perspective on it. He sets this new form of dating apart from what we typically view as dating by calling it courtship. But really, this book isn't about dating (or courtship) as much as all the reviews and even its title suggest. This book is about a healthy relationship with God. Mr. Harris stresses the importance of God in each person's life, especially as people become couples. I'd heard all the gimmicks about God-centered relationships before, and even bought into them to an extent, but this book explained clearly to my heart as well as my mind what things I need to consider about myself and others before starting any kind of dating or courtship relationship.
Rating: Summary: Much clearer than his first book! Review: I read Josh's first book, "I Kissed Dating Goodbye," and tossed it. At age 30-something, the idea of mass dating in groups sounded like a waste of time. I saw the great possibilities of his ideas for high schoolers, but for those of us past the stage of learning how to relate to the opposite sex as brothers and sisters in Christ, we needed a game plan for how to move to the next level. Josh Harris provides that in "Boy Meets Girl." This is a blueprint to follow as you begin to seriously look for a lifemate. The only criticism I have is that I wish that his wife, Shannon, had told more of her side of the story. At the beginning, we hear about her in tears over her confusion about the relationship, but we never hear how she dealt with it. I'm hoping she'll write her own book soon. Still, BMG is an EXCELLENT handbook for Christians trying to navigate the murky waters of singleness!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: If you want to buy either "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" or "Boy Meets Girl", definitely go with this one. It gives both a male and female perspective (since his wife Shannon is now in the picture) and includes some really insightful and helpful stuff. Also, for your own reading personally, I would highly recommend "Not Even a Hint" by Josh Harris. And throw in "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" to get your free shipping... ;)
Rating: Summary: Better than "I Kissed Dating Goodbye". Review: Joshua Harris has grown in both wisdom and maturity between the time I KISSED DATING GOODBYE was published and BOY MEETS GIRL was published. The first book had some valid points; you should be friends with someone before you date them, you should only date someone you might want to eventually marry, etc. However, much of the book provides very little insight for people who have always dated (or courted) from a Biblical perspective. I didn't enjoy reading IKDG very much and got very little out of it. It seemed to me that the underlying message of the book was that if you "date" and don't "court" your wrong. However, BOY MEETS GIRL is different. Realizing the mistakes of his first book, Harris has written something more useful and practical. To begin with, Harris no longer makes a distinction between "dating" and "courting" as he did in IKDG. Secondly, Harris emphasizes that there is no set pattern, guidelines, or rules to follow to meet and date/court your future mate; God never does something the same way twice. Finally, and probably most importantly, Harris more clearly illustrates than he did in IKDG that as people we cannot look to another person to complete us. Husbands and wives can only complement each other, they can't complete each other, only Jesus can do that. The book also has a lot of useful hints and a few of the stories are quite amazing. A much better book than I KISSED DATING GOODBYE.
