Rating: Summary: Intriguing yet somewhat drawn out... Review: Quite a stirring read. Yes, there are improbabilities in the characters' actions and motivations; but, overall, I enjoyed the premise. However, there are only so many times an author can use the same suspenseful structure before a reader grows tired...(ie. the crime is almost solved, but the key witness doesn't see the villain come up behind him; oops the villain kills our good and virtuous friend; our hero-like lawyer has to find another way to solve the crime). In spite of the repetition, the book is an enjoyable and thrilling read (via the twisted subject matter), as long as you get past the monotonous middle
Rating: Summary: Two words--Absolute Power Review: The title says it all, Absolute Power. The power to keep you engulfed with every page, savoring the next intricate detail with each passing moment. I have read books by John Grisham, a similar writer, and could not have been more impressed by this book. One will never view the President, White House, or the Secret Service the same ever again. From page one, you are gripped with a firm hand in the chest that does not let up until the very, very end. I cannot wait for his next effort. Good work, Baldacci!!!
Rating: Summary: Best novel written in 10 years! Review: The best novel I've read in the past 10 years. It was a real page turner. Just about the time the story had closure, another twist or turn was introduced and the plot thickened! As an owner/operator of a used book store and collector of hardback novels, this is a keeper
Rating: Summary: Delivery Guy,Where Were U When I Read P.125?.Ho,In P.215... Review: When can I say?,when my friend bought me the book for my birthday and told me that it's the best thriller he had ever read,I came beck to the book{after a few months}with allot of expecties.
It had a good start, like most thrillers,it started right in the action and I couldn't stop reading till p.100,then,the book really slowed down and got me to read like 10-15 pages every other day.
It finally paid off at the middle of the book.in p.200,after like 100 pages of legal, firm and high windows stuff{what was it called?,"The Firm"?}the action started and all though I could have put the book down,it was because I had to,or I had something else to do{did I say sleeping?,no...}and not because I wanted to,and not because it was boring{I can't say that in some parts it wasn't,but in the case, all books r the same},and that,I think, what makes a thriller good, after all,we all know that u have to put the book down{yeah,I came straight from %$&**$ and just couldn't stop,ho,just for cooking, laundry and ER},but what makes a good thriller is the fact that u put it down because u want to,and not because it is just BORING.
In that catagoty,"Absolute Power" deliverd, big time.
Rating: Summary: Junk food and empty calories for the brain. Review: Following the "bestseller" formula, there are a lot of twists and turns in this story. But that is all. There is no interesting character. Furthermore, there is no discernable motivation - what motivates these characters to act the way they did, other than to add another twist to the author's story? Ask yourself, is it believable to you, given the charactization (I am using that word loosely) of the billionaire, that he will do what he did to the president
Rating: Summary: not your run-of-the-mill predictable thriller Review: talk about putting your life on hold! couldn't put this book down once i started! the plot definitely holds your attention, twists and turns and keeps you guessing, throws one surprise after another but is believable. makes you wonder if the movie keeps the book's plot
Rating: Summary: Suspense-Filled! Review: Great page-turner. Kept me guessing all the way through. I was mildly disappointed at the end, but still thought it was a great book
Rating: Summary: Amazing suspense! Review: Suspense so strong it was a struggle to put down. Keeps attention going until the very end
Rating: Summary: A surprisingly good book from a relatively new author Review: A combination of "The Firm"(by John Grisham) and "The Fugitive"(starring Harrison Ford).
Fast pace, no anti-climax though I don't understand the concluding paragraphs. Is the author trying to leave behind something to be picked up by the sequel?
Rating: Summary: Fast paced, and loved storyline & how things went into play. Review: I thought the book would have deserved a 10 if the author would have fixed up the ending. The book was still fast paced. I didn't want to put it down. You can actually see Jack running and all of the movements that the other characters did and why they did them
