Summary: will keep your attention
Review: a friend gave me this to read and told me i would like it . . . i did . . . suspenseful with lots of twists and turns . . . one other reviwer said it was predictable . . . i did not find that to the the case . . . i now want to read other books by same author.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great story, but I missed Dismas Hardy.
Review: Compelling story of how justice can be manipulated by people in high places. Excellent character study of Abe Glitsky who has appeared in other John Lescroart books. I wish John had not revealed the outcome of his new book GUILT in relation to Wes Farrell's background in this book. Looks like he wrote the books in reverse order.

Summary: Taut, tense, quite suspenseful, very hard to put down
Review: I've become a great fan of John Lescroat's books and characters, and it was quite satisfying to see him have Dismas Hardy in such a background role and to have Abe Glitsky as a character so developed. This novel really grabbed me -- I found myself thinking about the twists and turns before I'd fall off to sleep at night, and I found myself really caring about the characters. I agree with another reviewer that it was just awful that the author revealed the end of another one of his more recent books as part of the sub-plot of this book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Swift, engaging mystery about the collapse of race relations
Review: in San Francisco, following the murder of a black man and the search for his killer(s). Adroit character development, correct pacing and enough parallel story lines to keep the reader moving along, although the ending is somewhat formulaic and a bit predictable. Give this one a shot

Summary: His storytelling stays on target
Review: Lescroart is becoming my favorite author in this genre and I have yet to read a book of his I didn't truly enjoy. This one though, is special because the story opening is the most dramatic I've ever read, in any genre. Totally riveting.

Review: Lescroart's storytelling is always geat. This is a great book.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: It's a Romance not a legal thriller
Review: Mr. Lescroart/publishers should reclassify his books as romances. I've read 5 of his books so far and only one of them came close to being a "legal thriller". The rest are more romance than anything else. This book in particular is the worst in that regard. If you want to read about Abe Glitzky and the lady Senator (an old flame) then get this book. If not, get his 'Nothing but the Truth'. It's far better.

My idea of a "legal thriller" is along the line of Primal Fear by William Diehl.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Hot & Cold
Review: The first quarter of the book is excellent, the last quarter pretty good. The other half is where I found myself skimming the pages for relevant and interesting material but didn't find much.
Perhaps I expected too much after this good start. Social issues underlying the story are relevant and well presented in my view.
Read it, just get over the rather boring part without quitting.
