Rating: Summary: A Touching Love Story From the Past Review: A rich girl falling in love with a handy-man in the l9th century is immediate attention holding as the two try to cope with rejection, separation and denial of a love they can't escape. The conflicts are many and the struggles are numerous for these likable characters. A believable and worth-while read from my favorite romance author. Evelyn Horan - teacher/counselor/author Jeannie, A Texas Frontier Girl, Books One - Three
Rating: Summary: Unbeatable Review: How could such a perfect story have ended? It's one of those things you wish would go on forever. This was the first book I'd read by the author, but it got me hooked. I've read it so many times I can recite most of it. The characters and time period were perfect and I think Jens has to be my dream man.
Rating: Summary: Superb writing! Review: I absolutely love this book! It is THE best novel I have ever read (Spencer's "Separate Beds second, Ann M. Martin's "Winter Dreams, Christmas Love" third, Danielle Steele's "Kaleidoscope" fourth). I recently finished my 24th read of the book and it is still as wonderful as the first time I picked it up. Spencer beautifully illustrates the desparation of two lovers separated by class distinctions; it gets me every time! As an aspiring novelist myself I only hope to convey my characters' feelings as effectively as she does.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book! Review: I am a big fan of Lavyrle Spencer and this novel is just another example of her fine writing. Lorna comes from a very wealthy family, Jens works at their summer home. He dreams of building boats and soon convinces Lorna's father that he can build a boat that will beat all others at the annual race. During the summer the Lorna and Jens fall in love. When Lorna returns home she discovers that she is pregnant and her parents forbid her from seeing Jens again. What follows is heartbreaking. The characters in this book are very well written and the ending is emotional. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Favorite by Spencer Review: I have read all of LaVyrle Spencer's novel and this is the best!! (Morning Glory second) I read this book twice and loved every page. I imagined I lived in the gilded age and what life would have been like for the wealthy. It's refreshing to find a novel where the man isn't exceedingly wealthy and the poor woman must rely on him to take care of her.
Rating: Summary: Touching and entertaining Review: I like this book so much that I have read it more than once. Lorna is a rich girl who falls in love with Jens, the kitchen handyman. When Jens is commissioned to build a boat for Lorna's father, her love of boating has her spending a lot of time with Jens. Before long, they fall in love. But all is not smooth for these lovers as her parents forbid her to see him again. I really liked these characters. Although Lorna was rich, she was not spoiled, and I thought she had some very real qualities. I loved Jens. He was masculine and tender and intelligent and simple. Another winner from Lavyrle Spencer.

Rating: Summary: Deserving of all the 5 Stars it got!!!! Review: I love this author. This is by far her best work. I get emotional sometimes when reading books, but NEVER do I cry outright. But I did while reading this book, and it wasn't pleasant. I felt so bad for Jens and Lorna during their rough times. But I also rejoiced over their happiness. Lorna was lovely and sweet (from the heart), and Jens was an honorable, handsome man worthy of a happy life. This book was so good, I still can't believe how it affected me. L.S. has the ability to put into words very strong feelings like no other author.
Rating: Summary: An excellent romance!! Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK! That really seems to be all there is to say ... it's simply fabulous. Lorna and Jens are a wonderful couple and their innocence and naivete are refreshing in lieu of other jaded romance pairings. The love is honest, the romance is true, and I always end this book on a sigh; it's that good! This novel is a must for anyone who loves romance, particularly of the sweet and endearing type!
Rating: Summary: a sensitive and touching love story Review: I love this book! It's strength is not the plot, because it is kind of typical: two young people fall in love despite of their vast difference in social status, then family and social pressure force them apart, finally love conquers all. The strength of this book is the characters and the development of their relationship. It's almost refreshing to see their love blossoming from mutual attraction to friendship then grand passion over the summer, instead of the hero takes one look at the heroin and decides to possess her body and soul. The characters are believable and well suited for the period, the turn of the century. There are no bad guys in this book, the parents forced the lovers apart because they loved their daughter and believed it was for the best. So they may reconcile with their daughter, son-in-law and adorable grandson at the end. The love scenes are sweet and hot! There are a lot of details about sailing and boat-building, I wish I knew more about them, however, even if you don't know anything about them and skip those parts, you will still love the story, and love Jens and Lorna.
