Rating: Summary: Another hit!!! Review: I have been a fan since the '70's and will remain so. I've read reviews by some of the other readers of this book and I think the ones who stated that Beau had green eyes should read the first two chapters again. "Beau remembers his childhood friend's hair and green eyes and Cerynise remembers that Beau had blue eyes." I enjoyed this latest offering from Ms. Woodiwiss and look forward to her next book.
Rating: Summary: It was a disappointment Review: I loved the first Woodiwiss books, The Wolf & the Dove, The Flame and the Flower, and Shanna. From there, at least for me, it went downhill. Her style of writing changed, from exciting dialogue and action between the characters, to flowery wordiness. The last three of her books I've had to force myself to keep reading, hoping that somewhere in the book is the fire that hooked me in her first book. She's gone from heroines with a can-do attitude to simpering victorian misses. What happened?
Rating: Summary: Another winner for Woodiwiss Review: After reading The Flame and the Flower so long ago, it took me a little while to connect Beau with Brandon. Once the lightbulb went off, the fun began! This was a good sequel to the original. The writing was sensual without a lot of offensive language. The main characters were lively and believable. I really laughed a lot at the end. It reminded me of the movie Home Alone with some of the antics. If you enjoyed this book, make sure to read Petals on the River.
Rating: Summary: Another enjoyable romance from Kathleen Woodiwiss. Review: I must disagree with many of the readers who reviewd The Elusive Flame. I found the story of Cerynise and Beau a wonderful sequel to The Flame and the Flower. I loved the similarities between both stories, but the eye color change was a problem. However, it was a book I found hard to put down. I also loved reading once again about Heather and Brandon and where their lives had led them.
Rating: Summary: not nearly as good as hoped Review: I first read Shanna 25 years ago and have read every one of Woodiwiss' books since then. I have loved most of the characters, but I have to agree with other reviewers that the characters of Cerynise and Beau were lackluster and hard to warm up to. The only other problem I have with her most recent books is the excessively flowery language and the totally cliched euphemisms Woodiwiss uses in her sex scenes. I had my fill of manly chests and heaving busoms. Her villians were caricatures and there was no suspense involved at all as to whether their nefarious schemes would bear fruit. All in all, very disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Enchanting & Oh So Romantic! Review: Once again, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss held my attention with this novel. I could not put it down. It was great to see the resurfacing of Heather & Brandon Birmingham, and the continuance of mystery and intrigue throughout the family descendents. I honestly could not put the book down, like all of her other works. She is the epitomy of a historical romance author. I only wish more authors had the capability of breathing such life into their characters. I eagerly await her following novels. I've read all of them several times over. Each one is a priceless work of art!
Rating: Summary: Sorry, but I was disappointed...... Review: As wonderful a writer that Woodiwiss is, she appears to have lost her imagination. Gorgeous young woman suddenly alone meets hunky, usually filthy-rich man, they create an imagined problem between them which keeps them from each other sexually, but which does not stop them from toying with each other until they finally end up in the sheets where the virginal woman is suddenly the best lover the hunk has ever had and he can't imagine another, but their new found love and happiness is short-lived now the villian(s) that were briefly mentioned in the beginning of the book are now back with a vengeance, but now time the villian is being helped by a nasty, but beautiful woman who had known the hunk previously and had intentions of having him for herself. Does this sound remotely familiar???? I need more story than this same scenario book in and book out. Come on, Kathleen, you are a wonderful writer, show us what you've got!
Rating: Summary: This book does a huge disservice to The Flame and The Flower Review: I was greatly disappointed with The Elusive Flame. When I heard there was a sequel to The Flame and the Flower, I thought how fabulous it would be to re-visit Brandon and Heather. However, I discovered this book takes place 25 years later and centres on Beau. I think the fans of Heather and Brandon get cheated in this sequel. There is next to no character development and the plot is practically non-existent. I felt nothing for Beau and even less for Cerynise. It was an effort for me to finish the book. And how could Ms. Woodiwiss change the colour of Beau's eyes?! In the Flame and the Flower, she writes how they were identical to Brandon's - darkly lashed and emerald green - and in The Elusive Flame they are sapphire. And the same incidences - Beau gets sick on the ship; Heather got sick on the ship; Brandon and Heather meet in England; Beau and Cerynise meet in England. Please!! Where is the originality? The few scenes with Heather and Brandon are too brief and left me wanting to hear more about what they were up to than Beau. I expected more from the author who penned such a touching novel like The Flame and The Flower. I love that book and read and re-read it at least 2 times a year. I have to say to the fans of The Flame and the Flower: if you love that book as much as I do and want to read The Elusive Flame than it is my opinion that you need to prepare yourself to be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: So glad to see someone else noticed the eye color!!! Review: I, too, agree with the reader from USA. At one point in The Flame and the Flower, Ms. Woodiwiss says that Heather knew that if she never saw Brandon again that she would forever be reminded of him through Beau's GREEN eyes. In The Elusive Flame, he apparently has Heather's sapphire eyes. Would love an explanation for this. Otherwise, it is a great book, and I was very excited about it. I have waited for years for this. I would LOVE a sequel to Shanna!
Rating: Summary: As always, romance and mystery superiorly entwined! Review: Once again, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss kept me at the edge of my seat. I started reading her novels at the age of 15, and now, 10 years later, I am still enjoying them over and over. Her books hold my attention so well, it is almost impossible to put them down. I enjoy her writing so much, I even chose the name Lierin from "Come Love A Stranger" for my daughter's name. If you enjoyed The Flame and the Flower, this book will be for you! I eagerly anticipate any following novels!!!
