Summary: It Will Tie Your Stomach in Knotts
Review: Simply put, I really liked "A Million Little Pieces." I agree with the review comparisons to "Nightmares Echo," "Running With Scissors," and of course "My Fractured Life." I also would include "Less Than Zero" among the favorable comparisons. Although a fiction novel in comparison to "A Million Little Pieces" being a memoir, "Less Than Zero" deals with the same situations of poor little rich boy becoming an addict not because of life on the mean streets, but simply because he has the money to waste. In terms of impact though, it is hard to top "Nightmares Echo" or "Basketball Diaries." Whereas, it in terms of an addictive reading experience it is hard to top "My Fractured Life" and "Running With Scissors". In all cases, "A Million Little Pieces" deserving belongs among all the aforementioned. It is graphic and impacting and at the same time addictive to read. A gripping journey that will put knots in your stomach.

Summary: Edge of the chair
Review: A Million Little Pieces keeps you on the edge of your chair throughout most of the book, it is hard to put down and an excellent read. It ranks up there with the likes of Nightmares Echo (sad and courageous writing),Beauty For Ashes (written from a christian perspective) and Fractured Life (the hollywood tell it like it is).
This is amazingly well done and highly recommended.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: Those who have been critical of James Frey and his book are so obviously envious of him it tells us way more about these "critics" than it does Frey. Perhaps they are personality disordered? Sure sounds like it.

A first lesson for successfully staying clean is to acknowledge that addicts come from all walks of life. Those who don't will never make it...in the long run, if they even get that far.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Frey sees these two shabby attempts at copying his style as what they really are: the sincerest form of flattery. These two folks are jealous to the bone. I wonder how many books either has written, much less had published...to such near universal acclaim?

It was not until after I finished reading this searingly genuine expose on the "famed" treatment center, that I realized I had done my stint there about 6 months prior.

This book has it all...truth, love, pain, humanity, laughs - but above all - truth.

Kudos to you, bud...you tell it like it is. Incidentally, I followed my own path also...hey, it worked for me, too. Who would have thunk it?

Summary: Intensity Makes it Worth While
Review: You've got to catch your breath at some points when you read "A MILLION LITTLE PIECES." It's a fairly intense book. That's a good thing. It's intense because it is honest and I like that. If you want to read a book about addiction, why get a Politically Correct, overly-sanitized Disney Channel story? "A MILLION LITTLE PIECES" is the real thing, in the same category of intensity as "MY FRACTURED LIFE," "RUNNING WITH SCISSORS," and "NAKED LUNCH."

Summary: Moving and Eye-Opening
Review: I'm a voracious reader (my average is about one book every two to three days). With all those words in my head, a lot of what I have read in the past becomes hazy after a while. This book, however, has stuck in my head for some time now--enough so that I felt compelled to come back to Amazon and write this review.

This is James Frey's true and personal story of the time he spent in rehab in Minnesota for an extremely severe case of alcoholism and drug addiction. He doesn't glamorize anything, he doesn't whine about anything. I was shocked to read how hostile other reviewers have been toward Frey, and find it interesting that they never criticize the quality of the writing or engrossing nature of the tale--their only problem is that Frey came from a privileged family and had help, while they did not.

At any rate, unlike what others here claim, Frey doesn't cry his way through this book. On the contrary, it was the extremely matter-of-fact style of writing that I found most interesting. Frey's troubles, offenses, and struggles are reported in this book as facts. He never seems to feel sorry for himself (indeed, the entire basis of his recovery is "I did this to myself, and I can undo it for myself"), but does show sympathy for a number of other individuals in rehab. The stories of those others are also presented, giving a more comprehensive view of the diverse group of people one can expect to find in a rehabilitation facility. He does, perhaps, focus slightly too much on his renegade style for recovery, but that is clearly something about which he feels very strongly.

I recommend this book to everyone, everywhere. It was one of the few things I have read recently that both entertained and informed simultaneously.

Summary: To Hell with the others! I think it's a GREAT read!
Review: Some of the others didn't like this book. That's definitely your opinion! I couldn't put the book down! I'm a casual reader that usually reads 5-6 books per year. I read this twice in a two week period. I was so in to this book it's about all I thought about. The writing was very unique, very captivating, and incredibly interesting! If it was made in to a movie I would be first in line!

Summary: Is AA the only way?
Review: As a recovering alcoholic I owe my sobriety to AA and my Higher Power. Having said that I am not so arrogant to believe that AA is the only way for everyone. It happens to be the only way that I got sober. We owe Mr. Frey a debt of gratitude for painting a realistic picture of what addiction and very early recovery looks and feels like. The book both educates the uninformed and draws you into the genuine life and death struggle that addicts face. Do yourself a favor and read this book.

Summary: I love this Book.
Review: I want to read this Book. I want to read this Book because I have been an Alcoholic and I have been an Addict and I have been in Rehab and I want to read what someone like me has been through.
It isn't quite what I expect.
It is better.
There are too many conjunctions. There are too many prepositions. There aren't enough commas. There aren't any quotation marks.
It is raw.
It is poetic.
It is real.
I can't put it down.
I read for 12 hours.
I finish.
I love this Book.
It is raw.

It is poetic.
It is real.

Summary: hey now, dont be a-hatin'....
Review: I liked this book. I can see its downsides, of course, as with any book. But I must say that despite how cliche the subject matter might be, I think that its beautifuly written. Obviously that's a matter of opinion I also happen to strongly believe in the inexplicable healing power of milk. Actually, that medical conviction and my feelings on this book are linked more closely then one might believe: just like with milk, I cannot explain to you WHY this book is so powerful, I can just tell you that it IS. Something about Frey's words moved me deeply, the mixture of innocence and skewed perspective of rehabilitation and life in general bind together to create a constantly learning, constantly growing novel, and I feel like to hate it is to not fully understand it. But then, I could be wrong. That happens. Quite a bit, actually. Its really rather bothersome.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: I am a fan of memoirs. This has to be one of the better books I have read this year. Makes you feel for the author. This book ranks itself, in my book, right up there with NIGHTMARES ECHO, LUCKY,and RUNNING WITH SCISSORS. A Million Little Pieces touches your life and gets in to your heart.
