Summary: Chilton hits, misses with 'Wealthy Barber'
Review: While certainly an easier read than your typical how-to financial guide, Chilton's 'The Wealthy Barber' still fails to live up to the standard of 'common sense'. His tendency to liken investing in the stock market to taking trips to Vegas is inconsistent with his 'Barber's' advice to place 10% of your income primarily in mutual funds. Chilton also leaves the reader frustrated with his penchant for pushing the use of 'professionals' in the realm of finance. Chilton fails to mention that with regard to mutual funds, fully 80% of fund managers fail to beat the indexes (as such, index funds are typically a neophyte investor's best bet). Despite this, the chapters covering insurance and credit are worth the price of the book. Even readers who done a fine job of keeping their financial house in order will find some tidbits that should prove to be financially beneficial. In short, while their is some good information to be culled from the pages of 'The Wealthy Barber', don't let it be the only financial self help guide you lay your hands on.

Summary: First Paycheck? - Buy this Book!
Review: While not the most intensively scholarly book ever written on Personal Finance, this is almost certainly the easiest to read. The Chapters dealing with Credit, Insurance, and starting to save money are invaluable.
