Rating: Summary: The Client whats up with that?!?!?! Review: I liked this book very much, I especially liked how they began the book. Because it kinda shows what the world is really like, and how the people really act..... I like how they show how the FBI "agents" will stop at nothing to get Mark Sway to talk about what he now knows. But of all the things I liked about this book the thing i liked most was the suspense. For ex. the part near the very end where they go looking for the body i rerall liked how they kinda kept you wanting to turn the page, it was those parts that made me finish the book..... I did though have some parts that i didn't like, for one I have a bad mouth and am working on it BUT this book just made it harder like at the begining where he is swearing all time... I also didn't like how they are talking about cigarettes ALL the time and it's not just that, thats not even that hard to deal with. The thing i didn't like about that is that they make it look like smopking cigarettes is ok and if you are under stress than you can smoke, BUT you can't soo.... The thing i disliked most about the book is, although there were some "good" parts to this book there was also alot of boring parts that made me want to go to sleep( which i read a couple of times because i did actually fall asleep while reading them). I ahd to read another book also and so now i am going to compare it to this one. "The Outsiders" by: S.E. Hinton was my other book i thought that this book though short was a good book also. I didn't fall asleep during this book but it was also 400 pgs shorter so thats kinda makes a little sense. "The Client kind of lead on it could have left a few things out, but all in all i liked it better than the outsiders.... For the first 100 pgs I couldn't put it down and then after that I kind of didn't want to read it anymore so yeah.....
Rating: Summary: A fun legal-thriller 'Light' Review: I enjoyed 'The Client' very much...but it was far from literature. I read this book when it first came out I think 6 or 7 years ago, and after having just finished 'The Pelican Brief' (one of my favorite Grisham novels) I was high on the legal thriller genre and couldn't seem to get enough. The characterization of Mark Sway was pretty good, but he seems a little too cocky for my taste. What really made 'The Client' worthwhile for me was attorney Reggie Love. Grisham infuses more life into this particular character than he has in all of the characters in his previous 3 novels--combined. A remarkable sense of humor (I actually laughed out loud several times) and just a feeling of 'I LIKE this lawyer!' If I ever had any kind of legal battles to fight, I certainly wish there was a Reggie Love I could have access too. The ensuing problems that Mark & Reggie encounter with the mafia boy who is desperate to find Mark and see to it that he never EVER confirms the location of a certain Senator who was killed is what propels 'The Client' on to an enjoyable climax. Grisham has written a cross between 'The Fugitive' and a compelling episode of Perry Mason--okay not the greatest example, but suffice it to say that it comes across as fun. I said that this is 'legal-thriller light' mostly because it was more of a formula-style adventure action novel than an outright legal thriller. One thing is for certain, this book had me turning pages fast and furious to find out the eventual sugar-coated conclusion, which isn't bad, but predictable.
Rating: Summary: Great Book by John Grisham Review: I had to read The Clint for a book report and I did not think it was going to be very intertaning but once I started reading it I could not put it down. Its a real page turner. I like how the make Mark the good kid who wants to do the right thing but after he was threatend by the Mafia he tried to keep his family and him from getting hurt. Reggie is a execellent character even through she has only been a lawyer for 5 years she is confident about herself and knows to watch her back. This book is a great book to read if your into sitting on the edge of your seat through every chapter. I think John Grisham is a incredible writer he is a very in depth writer and knows how to keep people wondering. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Gripping Review: A story of a young boy on the run from the mafia because of something he accidently saw. The book is fantastic! Has you turning each page in a hurry because it's so suspenseful. The boy goes to a lawyer (who's played by Susan Sarandon in the movie version) and she proceeds to help him. John Grisham is one of the best writers in the world in my opinion and I strongly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Just incredible Review: "Incredible" is the only word that comes to my mind describing this book. I think it's Grisham's best book so far. Though English is not my native language, I found it amazing to enter the world of little Mark Sway and go through his "nightmare " together with him. Originally reading this book was meant as a mean of improvement of my English. But within only few pages, I was tied up by this book and couldn't stop reading regardless of the fact whether it would help me or not. I hope you'll make the same experience as I made with this book!
Rating: Summary: A most unfortunate read Review: Perhaps this will be more a review of Grisham as a writer than of the book itself, as The Client was my first (and last) foray into Grishamland. First, I am by no means an academic. I have never thought much of high brow literary professors waxing philosophic over some irrelevant book in their irrelevant university offices. But when it comes to The Client, what can I do other than to sound like a literary snob? This was one of the most dreadfully written books I have ever read ... I understand that one reads Grisham not for mental stimulation, but for escape. Fair enough. That doesn't mean that the escape literature that one reads to kill time on a plane or in the doctor's office can't be well written. Case in point, how many people are enjoying the escape offered to them by the Harry Potter books, books that are brilliantly written despite offering "escape elements" to their readers? The Client contains no exciting plot twists, no quality threading and weaving of plot circumstances, and a lot of plain old insulting "tell" rather than "show" that even a first grader knows to keep out of his/her writing. Everything in this book is in your face, and as a reader I find myself completely insulted. Regarding the plot, how am I supposed to root for a kid who, with the help of his lawyer, is doing everything in his power to hide information leading to the conviction of a sleazeball who has killed an innocent man? Even if I fear for poor young Mark, I uh, dunno, kinda sorta sympathize with the innocent dead guy and his family. The characters are simply dreadful. With perhaps the sole exception of Mama Love, is there a single likeable or sympathetic character in the whole book? Mark is an absolute brat. Reggie, despite her occasional compassion, is crass and rude to almost anyone that gets in her way, and Harry Roosevelt is a tyrant who rules his courtroom the way Stalin ruled Russia. All of Grisham's characters, big and small, are just plain unfriendly people, making the excitement of a good vs. evil plot theme impossible, because there isn't any good here. If in fact Grisham does want to make everyone a scoundrel, he should at least make them compelling scoundrels. Note : Darth Vader, Potter's Lord Voldemort, and the enticing Jules Winnfield (and his "biblical death speeches") of Pulp Fiction. Grisham's "bad guys" are as dull as any group of characters I have ever met. I must call a spade a spade : John Grisham can not write to save his life, not in this book anyway, and it's a shame that there are so many great writers out there just dying to be heard, while this guy manages to get [nonsense] like this sold by the millions. I gave The Client two stars because to me, one star connotes something that is just plain incomprehensible, and I was at least able to follow this pitiful little story. I am one of the unfortunate ones who refuses to stop reading a book once I've started it for fear I will have missed something. This book made me think twice about maintaining that policy. I realize I may offend Grisham fans with what I write here, but I think I make a fair case, and if I can prevent even one person like myself from reading this piece of junk then I will be happy. There are plenty of other well written "escape books" out there. The Client is a novel that should be avoided at all costs.
Rating: Summary: Great story, flat finish Review: This book is certainly consistent with Grisham's other work, only the ending, while satisfying, was not terribly thrilling. I kept waiting for a twist or unexpected outcome, but didn't get it. This does not, however, take away from the quality of the book. It's a page-turner cover to cover.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyed the Book and The Movie Review: Excellent legal thriller with a young boy as the center point of the story. Excellent entertainment to spend time reading or watching the video.
Rating: Summary: Do you believe? Review: Do you believe that in our society a story whose main characters are a 50+ attorney and her 11 year old client would become a best seller and a TV show? I couldn't be more thrilled. Of course, the book had to be good for this to happen and it is. You become a part of the lives of these two characters, worrying with them page per page about what will happen next. The plot twists and turns and leaves you with a satisfying ending just when you think it's not possible. Well worth your time!
Rating: Summary: Grisham at his best! Review: I thought this was by far the best John Grisham book although all of them are good. I highly recommend this book. I love the character Mark Sway. Suspense at its very best.
